5 Things That Suck About Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 is a great game, as we discussed earlier today. But it's not perfect. In fact, it has some total sucktitude. Here are the five biggest nuisances in Mass Effect 2. And for good measure, we've included why they're not so bad!

The commercial makes the game seem like a Michael Bay production. So I can see why some wouldn't like the commercial. Personally, I thought it is one of the better commercials for a game.

The thing I hate most about ME2 is the voice channels can be a little messed up. For example, you are walking around after a mission and the Ships AI is talking to you. Then as you walk by two Krogans discussing their latest bloodbath their discussion actually cuts what the AI was saying, mid sentence.

besides that, the game is amazing.

edit: lol, to funny, they updated it as a sixth thing that sucks about ME2.

I saw the long commercial during the game as well and one thing I noticed was that some of the facial movements on the humanoid characters (in particular the black guy in black battle regalia and the white chick in spandex) didn't match up to what was being voiced. Minor gripes but I saw them indeed & this was an advertisement. Again given what MW2 has managed to muster from the "reviewers" I believe ME2 should rec'v no less than 11/11.

Considering you can't visit the citadel of Mass Effect 1 and that you won't be seeing civilians on any of the important save the colony side quests.. it makes the game feel less... life like compared to the first, and wow.. a geth squad mate.. how lame lol

Being more than half way through the game, I've got to say that these complaints aren't even close to a game breaker.

1. Ammo? Yeah, so? What really good RPG/FPS doesn't make you look for more ammo? And it adds to the difficulty. You have to be more conservative.

2.The secretary? Aside form telling me to talk to the Illusive Man AFTER I've already left the conference room being annoying, I've got no problem with her. And I'm thinking that there's a way to be romantic with her (BTW, I'm playing as female Shepard).

3. Normal is... somewhat easy. So, Veteran is at about my level. But how is that a complaint anyway? Heck, you can even change the difficulty while playing a level!!! You can change it anytime you want!!!

4. No characters that stand out? They all have interesting stories... Some better than others, but what I care more about is how well they work and kill in the battlefield. And I didn't really find Wrex all that engaging in ME1, he was just good to have on the battlefield when you need brute strength.

5. Eh... sure. I liked how ME1 just gave you the characters. But in truth, you don't need all of them (I think). I need 3 more, but I've already been given the location of the derelict so I can safely navigate the Omega 4 relay. Regardless, I'm a completionist, so I will find them all and do all of the side missions.

6. Other conversations stopping your conversation? Yeah, this one sucks! Not a game breaker though. Just stand still until EDI or your teammates are done talking. It's not that difficult!

I hate articles which nitpick good games like this. Always trying to find the wrongs instead of enjoying the rights. At least they included why they're not so bad and not just bash the game.

I dislike nitpicks as well, but for a game like this they're oftentimes needed. Like GTA4 and similar games that score extremely well, we need someone to come out and say what the issues there are so that we don't go in all rosy-eyed thinking it's the best thing since sliced ciabata bread.

All of the items he mentioned have been briefly mentioned in most of the reviews I've read, especially the part about the overall story being fairly bland while the individual character stories shining.

One item of contention, though: I was under the impression that it was possible to finish the game with all of your characters alive...

And yes, I think Mass Effect 2 is awesome. I just want to make sure game developers keep a high standard, and these crappy parts need to go. Or at least be discussed. I don't know if I'm happy with ammo or not, for instance. But why the hell can't I get my messages instantly?

I haven't played the second one but what I wished they would have changed (seeing as the gameplay videos I've seen have it the same) is that I didn't like how the characters are so stiff and they can't jump. This puts them on a par with home avatars the only difference is these ones look better and shoot. The cover system also needs some work.

This guy who wrote this "article" is a complete jackass. He also posted on his site that there is no point in buying MAG at a Midnight release. Here's his quote: "Plan on standing in line for MAG at midnight? Don't bother. Besides recent reports that reviews are being withheld, the Sony PlayStation Twitter feed just announced that PSN will be down for maintenance from 12-3am pacific standard time. Guess we're all better off buying it tomorrow...or maybe after some reviews tell us whether it's good or not."

In reality, what SONY was said on Twitter is:

"Tomorrow (1/26) there will be PSN maintenance from 12-3am PT. During that time, SCEA users will be unable to sign in for a 10 min. period."

While I do support the PS3 and I do not own a 360, I do like Bioware games and have for a long time. I would be getting ME2 for the PC if I had a slightly better processor and even then I may have to upgrade since it's inevitable anyway. Based on the ME2 rambling and the ridiculous post about MAG and the PSN, I'll just put this lunatic in with all the other worthless bloggers who have nothing better to do that try to get hits for their site. Not worth the electricity it takes to display it on my monitor. I would hope everyone else would feel the same, regardless of their chosen console.

This game is probably pretty close in spirit to Heavy Rain - it does have guns, but if you play it like a shooter you will likely be disappointed. This is basically a story-heavy, cinematic game with excellent character design and fleshed out decision trees. In those respects, its pretty much the same concept as Heavy Rain.

ME2 is, no doubt, a great game as I really liked the first and they seem to have adressed most of the niggles(and esp my main one which was that the 360 version was a little too far behind the PC version for my liking-unlike L4D on 360 which is a con compared to PC)but anyone wanting to pick on MAG when anyone reviewing it now hasn't got a clue what the games going to be lke are being a bit daft, imo.

Frankly, I couldn't give two sh1ts what the reviews are for MAG as, when the blocks fall into place with a good squad and good leaders(which will happen more often with people who actually paid for the game)and devoid of people stupidly playing it like it's COD it's a magical experience. I don't expect the reviews to be kind at the start but predict vast reappraisals when the SOCOM crowd have sorted the community out and Zipper conquer the servers(give it a couple of weeks).Seriously, MAG will be fine and to knock something thats main problem so far has been gamers not getting the game(and press it would appear)is very premature. It isn't a blockbuster and was never going to be as it doesn't appeal to the "me! Now!" ethos of most online shooters. TF2 and SOCOM fans will make it a success but it'll take time. If you notice the people who liked the beta were mostly saying similar things to what I am and that'll be the people who end up playing it-people prepare d to give the game time to grow. Whatever, I'm glad Sony at leeast pushed the envelope and it's now up to PS3 gamers to make it something special provided Zipper pull of their side of it-and given their track record I'd enjoy your giggles now as they will make this one work for those willing to play it like it was meant to be played.

Seriously, what kind of site would place a MAG review yet? It's a sign of complete unprofessionalism in my eyes and makes me concerned about the motives of these sites and publications. I remember similar things happening with Warhawk at release and THAT turned into the biggest PSN success there's been so far.So much haste to hate these days. It's a little sad-as is the lack of need for this article. We all know there's no perfect game but when U2 was getting rave reviews we had stuff like this and afterwards got real idiots just wanting to knock the game-and the same pathetic tale will play out here as well, just wait, it's inevitable.

This i coming from someone that has 18hrs put in to the game.
The game is great! Its 5 to 6 step ahead in improvement over the first one. And this time around the game is more of an action game rather than an action RPG like ME1. NO more needless exploration for a simple piece of metal, all you do is scan the planet and send a probe to pick up the resource THAT to me is one of many giant step improvements. SO no more having to look at the same planet over an over and over again and the only time you actulaly land on a planet is when you get a distress call or you are on a mission BUT good thing is that no planet has the same over used environment thus far they are all unique. My only two gripes , you cant buy weapons you have to find them in certain missions nor armor in the whole ONLY pieces.

Well, i dont really care for the 360 and buy 90% of all my games for the PS3. Mass Effect 2 might possibly be my favorite game outta all the consoles. It blows away the first in every possible way!
