Rumor: No Half-Life In 2010

After Left 4 Dead 2 shipped, hopeful souls assumed that Valve would throw all their energy into finishing Half Life 2: Episode Three. Maybe that's true but you shouldn't expect the game anytime soon.

Bummer. Oh well...this could mean that they are waiting to make another Orange Box and trying some new stuff with the game. TF2 and L4D2 will last me awhile.

Blaze9295204d ago (Edited 5204d ago )

Like anyone of us actually expected Valve to release Episode 3 this year :(

Whenever they actually unveil it though it better blow our damn minds away.

SaberEdge5204d ago

I want another Half-Life 2 episode. Oh well, I am sure they are working on something great.

ReservoirDog3165204d ago

I was actually hoping they would say something this E3. But Valves known for this. You gotta hate them for it but it all washes away when you actually get it.

Oh well. I'll just replay the series again. Can't complain.

narked5204d ago

at this point all i want valve to say is: "Yes we are still making half life"... because i seriously have doubts now. hope it doesnt turn out like duke nukem forever

snake_eater5204d ago (Edited 5204d ago )

we should be already talking about half life 3, it as been 5+ years since half life 2s release.

give us a screenshot, give us something for christ sakes...

foxtheory5204d ago

Each time you make fun of Gabe's weight, he'll push Episode 3 back another month!!!

DeadlyFire5204d ago

I think its more than likely if Episode 3 doesn't come in 2010 then it will not exist. Instead we are getting Half-Life 3 in 2011. I believe on a new Game Engine. Source 2 maybe?

Eiffel5204d ago

I guess Valve can make another Left 4 Dead, that seems like their game plan anyway. >.>

Dev8 ing5204d ago

I mean I got the first 2 but I don't see myself buying a third one if it is released. Maybe if they changed some things like add a single player campaign. And also make the game playable offline ie make the bots smart. They also need more than 5 scenarios it just gets boring pretty quick.

Fanb0y5204d ago

Valve is either putting A LOT of work into the next Half-Life...

Or they're really inefficient and disorganized.

mistajeff5204d ago

I'm gonna go with the former. Back before they started clamming up every time someone thought the words "Half Life," Lombardi said that episode 3 (or whatever this ends up being) is a highly ambitious project. My money's on a massive Source upgrade.

rawrockkillz5204d ago

Well Episode 3 will finish the Half-Life 2 story so i bet they want to finish it out with a bang.

TheIneffableBob5204d ago

I'm going to go with the former as well. Valve is known to be organized with their cabal system of development.

ReservoirDog3165204d ago

Yeah, everyone knows they back their stuff up. And to finish off HL 2, one of the best games ever released, it's gotta be good and they know it.

What's worse? Waiting years and it turns out really good or rushing it and it feels, well, rushed?

I'll take the former on both questions.

f7897905204d ago

Just to disagree because this is the internet you know.

I'm excited for the final episode but am annoyed that an episode takes as long as a full game! In addition, the graphics barely increase with each episode and I'm tired of the nasty textures. They were once beautiful but I've moved on.

Another year with no Half Life? Big suprise there...

ballsofsteel5204d ago

i don't know why it's taking so long. considering there was a 6 year gap between HL1 and 2 they should have made a complete next installment or half life 3 by 2010. i don't know it just seems to me valve hit it's peak with the release of orange box cause ever since it's been downhill. L4D was/is great but considering they released is sequal a year after the first one and with very little post launch support for L4D it just seems valve is getting some activison in it's blood

Silent Hills cancellation was a travesty.

mrbearbear272d ago

I still wonder to this day if it was a reboot, or sequel.

cammers1995273d ago

Lol. The tags made it so I didn't have to visit your website.

goldwyncq272d ago

Kojima wouldn't have started his own studio if Silent Hills didn't get cancelled so even if it stung at first, I'm fine with it.

chobit_A5HL3Y272d ago

i remember being so excited for patriots for years, only to have them release that siege trash. i hate how multiplayer games, pvp in particular, have ruined so many potentially good games.

15 Years Ago This Month, Valve Announced Half-Life 2: Episode 3

Zack Zwiezen writes, "It seems like just yesterday when Valve announced a trilogy of expansions for their super-popular PC game, 2004's Half-Life 2. But it’s actually been 15 years since Episode 3 was announced. And while Valve has since released a new Half-Life game, it wasn’t the one the developer announced back in 2006."

Orchard1054d ago

Still hurts a little that we didn’t get Ep3… and the “leaked” plans for it sounded like a great finale to the HL2 story arc.

-Foxtrot1054d ago

It sounded fantastic and it's a shame we'll never get that

The ending of Half Life Alyx and what it did basically put the nail in the coffin for those plans.

Fntastic1054d ago

Whatever they release next i hope it's not catered to consoles first. Back 4 Blood seems to be going that route by having automatic flashlights, but i have high hopes Valve won't water down any games as they are usually released on PC way earlier, like HL2 and HLA.

CrimsonWing691052d ago (Edited 1052d ago )

Man, I wish I played Half-Life 2 when it first came out so I could love it like the fans do.

I played it on Xbox 360 and I thought it was ok. I recognize it set a standard for a lot of things like physics in game and story-telling in an FPS, but I think by the time I played it the design had been improved upon by other games.

moongrim1379d ago

kitano19471379d ago

its an interactive storybook, written by Geoff Keighley, why should it be free? hes worked on reporting valve games since before half life 1 released.

Open world L4D game?

I'm curious

I'd love to see Zoe, Francis and Louis come back, or maybe Bill if they pretend the cross over with L4D2 never happened and they went North to Canada.

Knightofelemia1379d ago

Shame about L4D3 I would have bought that day one

FlyingFoxy1379d ago

Same, tho interestingly if you check the steam database page you can see L4D2 is being updated frequently, just not publicly, seems they are up to something.

Also we can look forward to B4B trailers etc soon so we have another game that might be similar.

MadLad1379d ago

Damn I want more Half-Life and L4D..
Half-Life would be less jarring if it didn't end on such a cliff hanger.

Hard to believe that was all the way back in 2007.

Fist4achin1379d ago (Edited 1379d ago )

Wow, great plans all flushed down the toilet. These probably would have all sold well too. A fan in me no more of valve.
