World of Warcraft Subscriber Base Reaches 11.5 Million Worldwide

IRVINE, Calif., Dec 23, 2008: Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®, its award-winning subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, is now played by more than 11.5 million subscribers worldwide. This new high was reached following the November 13 release of the game's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich KingTM.

Is that 11 500 000 subscriptions sold to date or 11 500 000 currently active accounts?

I'd go for subs sold to date, any way you look at it, it looks better to use the highest number available, and it can only be: total sold to date.

11.5 million active accounts, not free trials, not expired accounts. Just accounts that have payed for a month or more and are active.

they'll definitely milk it as much as possible. the rumor is the next xpac is already in the works.

i play, but not religiously, and i can verify that it is more popular than ever. my server has a queue on a regular basis now cuz it's always full. and the major city in the new zone, Daralan, is always laggy.

this is a better xpac than the last though, i can see why ppl are returning.

They Hooked me!! It`s a good deal...The World is huge + I belong to a great Clan...It`s a great Clan Game...It`s the Best thing to play right now...It`s better then anything the consoles are offering right now...kinda sick of shooters all the time, this is a great change-

I do agree that it's a good game. I don't agree that it's the best thing to play right now. but that is an opinion. but for my PvP needs, i would never turn to wow. I don't play games of luck while being competitive (kinda why i stopped playin TF2 -- having dice roll crits in an FPS is ridiculous). For pvp I'll stick with the shooters and rts, not dice rolling.
