The Week Ahead: 31/08/07

Sony's PlayStation 3 is coming up to its first Christmas in the UK, and a few alarm bells are ringing. Although it's not had a disastrous launch and subsequent rollout there's definitely a sense that Sony is beginning to lose the 'mindshare' with press and consumers.

Take a look at this week's releases. While there's nothing stellar on display it's significant that the PS3 versions of both Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Stuntman: Ignition are both delayed until late September.

Stop censoring the news just bc you don't like Anti-Sony articles. This website is from the UK and it is PS3's first Christmas there. Some of you guys get too adament in your defense of anything anti-Sony. And it is ruining this website.

Just because PS3 is your console of choice doesn't mean that other people that visit this website shouldn't be able to read this.

With these things taken into consideration I would agree with the article. That this is not a good week for the PS3 with no new games coming out. Not to mention that Stuntman and Tiger Woods are both delayed.

This article is making a story out of nothing. This isn't like the first week people in the UK haven't had a game released - we've had weeks on end without games being released! In fact, the next game coming out is on 14/09/07, so that's two weeks without games being released.

Look at the recent releases:

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - July 6th
Transformers - July 20th
The Darkness - July 20th
Surfs Up - August 3rd
GRAW 2 - August 24th

How many gaps of no releases have their been? What's the point of highlighting this one as if it's shocking.

Not to mention, there are so many games coming out in the near future and before Christmas there will be so many games people wont know what to do with them! Look at the upcoming releases:

September 14th - 2 games
September 21st - 5 games
September 28th - 10 games
October 5th - 4 games
October 12th - 4 games
October 19th - 4 games
October 26th - 8 games
November 2nd - 4 games
November 9th - 5 games
November 16th - 5 games
November 23rd - 1 game
November 30th - 4 games
December 7th - 2 games
December 14th - 4 games

That is an average of over 4 games coming out EVERY week up to Christmas.

Please, this aint news. It's trouble making without balanced views.

Here is a good example of how things really are. This article was posted not too long ago and observe the title totally altered to be a Pro-Sony type heading. Yet it was still approved even after being reported multiple times.

But when the situation is reversed it is the exact opposite.

I have no problem with approving this as news - as soon as the title changes and a better picture is used and perhaps a few channels taken away. It seems to be focused on the PS3 in a negative way and then put in pretty much all the channels to start a flame war. I'll approve the story once it meets guidelines whether I agree with what it's saying or not. That's what comments are for, to start a discussion on the news reported :)

It should be approved - but not in it's current state.

1. The title needs to be changed as it's been changed from the original.
2. With the current spin on this weeks releases this should be in the PS3 channel only.
3. The picture holds no relevance to the story and needs to be changed.

As I said earlier, I'd approve this story regardless of whether it's pro-sony/pro-micrsoft or the opposite. It just needs to be meet the guidelines and then people can discuss their opinions afterwards.

I really don't care which console comes in 'first' or whatever - as long as the games are enjoyable and fun, I don't care.

What gets me is the fanboys of this site - on both sides - that feel they need to post flamebait in order to either promote thier own political (consol) standpoint - or worse - deliberately trying to inflate thier contributor score by posting flamebait titles (cough - a certain contributor that loves hd-dvd vs blu ray articles).

For my little example, I choose Henry and June - well, 'Joon' in the movie - cause I kinda liked the film. I chose the Wii, cause I think it's a $250 turd. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you have to hate something, pick the Wii - all this infighting amongst technophiles - 360 and PS3 fans - is ridiculous. fandroid thuggery forced the author to change the title sadly, which was descriptive and indicative of the articles content.

The PS3 is suffering from a lack of games that set it apart as a system. The far majority of releases this year for it in 2007 are 360 ports that run poorly because of poor architectural design or are movie tie-ins and the PS3s first and second party exclusives have mostly had poor reviews, which is a terrible disappointment and it means that for 2007 the PS3 is going to have a real tough time competing for consumers money this holidays compared to the 360 and Wii.

With Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk critically panned, the PS3 is in deep trouble and its chances of improving its fortunes in 2007 are basically nil

Well with Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Ace combat and PGR4 its going to be a great fall for the 360. Not sure about the PS3, Lair got bad reviews and HS is pretty much goddess of war. Warhawk could be good, but its not. Uncharted will most likely be delayed. Not going well for sony.

The only game which I personally doubt is Lair. Other than that, there is Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, Folklore, UT3, Assassins Creed and Haze.

Indeed. Only the launch weekend, when nutheads and diehard fandroids paid too much @ 600 Euro. After that the demand fell so hard, the 360 had outsold the PS3 from January untill July. July one good month for the PS3 again after the price drop. Expect the 5 remaining months in 2007 to have lower sales again on the PS3, while the 360 will peak again.

Doesn't matter. It's out since november 2006 in USA/Japan. So the system is on the market for some time. Games should have been there, because development of them is already going on since 2005.

The fact is: the PS3 is up against the 360 right here, right now. Not five months ago, not a year from now. Just now. And they have to fight Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect and the total line up and the online premium system.

It seems a 600 Euro device in Europe is a bad choice when a Premium 360 is officially 349 Euro, plays multiplatform games better and has more interesting exclusives/system sellers/killer apps

I'm not counting on Uncharted either, its a sony game. They work to hard on graphics and forget gameplay alot like the GRan Turismo series.

We've played Warhawk for over a month and I gurantee that most people would love it. It's easily an 8/10. I can't say much for HS or Lair as I haven't really played much of them.

But they will sell PS3's regardless to be honest, along with Ratchet, GT Prologue, and Uncharted. The 360 will sell more naturally though,with Mass Effect and Halo 3.

But PS3 owners won't have much to complain about honestly. But if your already dismissing those games, then it's probably why some will consider you a fanboy I'm afraid. It's clear the PlayStation is not your type of games console, that is why you have an Xbox. So why criticise those who don't want to play Halo 3 and whatnot? I don't get it. I'm looking forward to those games just as much as your looking forward to any Xbox game.

So what's the issue..are you upset that we're not all Xbox owners or something? Because I don't see anyone criticising the 360 here. Only you guys attacking the BS3, according to you.

Lets hope its that AAA title that sony need! I also heard about GT5 and how the physics have been redesigned and that cars will take damage. Thats good news but will the game sell after sony's lies? No matter what they say i'm really unsure about the ps3. Its price point is one thing but the lack of games just makes me laugh. Lets just hope sony learn their lesson and start to catch up.

....look at MS. they pushed two PGR games in less time than GT5 is created, which means the hard work and concentration is put into GT games and not to make effing $$$ even thoguh they do.

warhawk did not get bad reviews, heck, nobody can review it properly yet because its not even released to the public yet.

and you do realize half the games on the 360 aren't even next gen. seriously, PDZ, kameo? viva pinata? burnout revenge? FF11 come on seriously, i could play it with my radeon 9550 and 1.8 Ghz comp.

by 2008, there are already 5 games (tons more) from sony that will push ps3 sales like never before. littlebigplanet, Mgs4, Gt5, Killzone 2 and Tekken 6. boom, millions sold right there.

oh yea and btw, Gran turismo is the BIGGEST game franchise in europe and australia next to PES and Singstar, which is also Sony made. Each GT game has sold over 8 million copies, and GT sells consoles too. Forza 2 hasnte ven reached 1 million yet, so yes. GT WILL sell.

of course it matters that it is only 5 months in uk. 360 was in development since probably about 2003 so why on launch was there not 30 aaa titles???

Also, £425 was not a bad choice on 23/03/07 when the alternative WAS a £300+ faulty piece of hardware with a £30 online fee. RROD was still a major issue 5 months ago as was disc scratching etc.

So yes it was the logical choice for a lot of people. What exclusives are coming in 2008 for 360 that are system sellers? It isnt that far away and I have yet to see anything other than mass effect (which does look AWSOME!!), to warrant me purchasing another piece of kit with less features and when I get psn for free.

This had to be edited so many times before it was allowed to be approved. The original title of the PS3 having no games, and actual image of a 360 controller, were provocative and thus the author was told to edit them out before approval.

People like the Mart think its some sort of conspiracy because it wasn't being allowed approval in that state; he wanted to highlight something about the PS3.

Now it's been approved, the comments have come in and so have the facts about the PS3 games and the amount of them, and behold - there was actually nothing to be highlighted and it's all turned to poo lol. I'll see you guys in Warhawk next week ;)

Meaning that there ARE releases for the PS3 this week. With an average of 4 games/ week for the rest of the year (do the release schedule check yourself if you don't believe me).

Just enjoy whatever system you own. If you really were as impassioned towards gaming as many of you claim, you'd be gaming not complaining. I'm going to play some NGS before heading to work. Then I plan on slicing up some baddies in the HS demo for a bit (That game, IMO, rocks).
