Signs Point To Final Fantasy XIII Simultaneous Release

Final Fantasy Union writes "Towards the tail end of last week, Square Enix announced that Dissidia: Final Fantasy would be released in Europe on the 4th of September, 2009. While this doesn't sound overly significant in itself, the date is only a week after the North American release.

For those who have been following Final Fantasy for some time, especially those in Europe, delays between regions are usually quite substantial. It's not uncommon for there to be a 4-5 month delay between the North American and European versions, and it's something that's always been very disappointing to European gamers."

Didn't they announce at E3 of 2008 that it would release early in Japan on PS3 only and other wise simultaneously everywhere else on the PS3 and 360?

I thought this was old news?

Yes I don't know why this was approved really, we don't need speculation on something that's already been announced as a fact a year ago by SE.

On another note, wouldn't it be funny if FFXIV came out before FFXIII.

Like Microsoft is going to give Sony a heads up on this one, already the United States version was pushed back to be released at the same time as the Xbox 360 version. Original announcement in 2005-2007 was this game had a goal of world-wide same time release to show that Square Enix can keep up with Western developers.

3 - I thought this was a given
Since it needs to be ported to the 360 they will delay the us release and release it with europe. At least it's the most logical way of doing things.

at least Pachter agrees with you on that point.
I think if FFXIV is slated to arrive on this gen's system, then XIII will be just fine.

maybe acquiring a European company like Eidos can speed up the localization.

As much as I want to play the game ASAP. I would'nt mind if they added secrets and sidequests for us in PAL-land like they've done with previous games.

Well first off they didn't claim to have started Final Fantasy XIII's localization. They HAVE started it. We already saw at E3 that they have already begun translating and dubbing the game. That said they already said that the game is aiming for a Japanese release of winter and a US release of spring 2010 and that is not a simultaneous release.

Unless of course you are only counting Europe and the US which is stupid to do because that doesn't really count as simultaneous release they really have to release it across all three territory's for it to count as a simultaneous release.

I don't think any of the dubbing we've heard is final. If it is? Then SE really dropped the ball this time round, it's absolutely wretched voice acting.

As for the simultaneous release? It would be a simultaneous western release, something that is unusual for JRPGs

I don't know if it's final or not but there were a few times that various sites were talking to SE about the game and it seemed as if by the way they were talking about that it was final. Perhaps the actors are final and they will try to improve the performances at a later date.

I do agree it didn't really measure up to what we have heard from X and XII but that's not the point. Voice acting aside the localization has begun as the menus and what not were in English in the trailers for the game and that is part of localization. The only real reason that prevents the Localization from starting is that the script isn't complete and we already know it is because the Japanese actress for Lightning already let slip that voice over work on the game is done which means the script is done and final which means they can start translating for the US version.
