Dear Koei Games, Please Stop

The Power Review: Enough is enough. There comes a time when you can only rereleased the same game so many times and brand it with a new title. That number just so happens to be twenty-one. Ironically enough, that is the same number of games under the Dynasty Warriors franchise (Wikipedia). This is not even counting all of the spinoff titles: Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Tactics, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, Bladestorm, and the list goes on!

if it makes money, devs will continue to bring these games out! not just DW but same goes to Mario spin-offs, GH, FIFA (although this has improved significantly in recent years) and WE/PES! as long as people buy them, they will keep coming! but what is better than milking a proven franchises with existing fan base? new IP is far too risky especially when the economy is the way it is!

Hey, they tried something new when they released Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War.

Squad based battles was an interesting concept (though it was broken for that game).

Bladestorm is more squad base, if u play like DW n use your hero n rush it... you are gonna get screwed really badly.Koei keep coming out with the same games because people keep buying it so why should they change?

@FantasyStar: Broken in the sense that if you could buff up Horses just enough, you'd be able to run over the entire storyline. The only time any of the riding classes were outmatched was when you reach the level 99 battles, where you actually had to respect weaknesses somewhat.

no one even understands that they're the king of rehashes
capcom comes close with MM, SF and RE rehashes
nintendo comes close and generally takes the biggest blame for milking a franchise
but just look at romance of the three kingdoms and dynasty warriors.. overly milked and rehashing the same basic thing over and over just within the past couple of generations
they make activision look like.. well .. I guess nobodies perfect

also i hope they make Warship Gunner 3.

people complain about these games.
But don't realize that their shooting themselves in the foot as Nintendo has a knack for creating such spinoffs and sequals.

In any other case I may be upset by this.
You can only take Mario, Sonic, Zelda for so long,
but truth is, All the zeldas are great, Marios are also great, so there really is no "lack of innovation" when it comes to nintendo's franchises.

These games just sit on the store shelves, collecting dust until someone comes along, typically a large smelly kid of about 10 with thick black glasses and a dungeons and dragons t-shirt says "hey, THIS is a hack n slash game with samurais!" thus a purchase is made and Koei's addiction to making rehash after rehash is funded.

Nice little article, and it really is sickening just how many games they've put out, with differences you'd only notice through a magnify glass.

Truly incredible, indeed.

To be honest, I didn't mind the Dynasty Warriors franchise, like people don't mind FPS, all seem the same to me in my opinion, just with slight differences.
anyway, I liked the series until part 6 came out on the ps3/360. Man, what a disappointment! I was hoping for at least an upgrade in terms of graphics, but nope. same outdated graphics with a stupid new battle/ combo system.
This is why I prefer the dynasty warriors: gundam series now...

Personaly im a huge fan of the DW series, i absolutly love it.

Now while i must admit that the series on paper has changed very little, the truth is when you play the games the evolution is staggering. Going back to DW2 it was very simplistic. Move from fight to fight, take out the odd boss and try not to die.

In later games however, things became a lot more tactical. The games really give you the feeling that you are taking part in an epic battle. And while you play a fairly big part the battlefield is constantly changing around you.

Later games introduced the idea of having a personalised musu mode for each character and oped up more characters. Sure the games hasnt really changed all that much, but each release is more sophisticated and enjoyable than the last.

What im trying to say is it is not a re-hash game. Rather than copying an old game Koei improve the game each time.

Ok its gone on for a while but hell its not like they are the only one. When the hell are nintendo going to come up with something new. I'm tired of playing games about an overwight plumber and Likk trying to save a princess. Now there is a re-hash.

When will Sega stop making games about a Blue Hegdehog?

Every company has their own signature character or series, for Koei it DW. Yes i think it could d with an update, but on the otherhand im glad they have'nt done anything stupid with it.
cough Windwalker cough Mario Sunshine cough etc

just to name a few maore, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, Bungie, Capcom, the list goes on. No game is truley original, as long as the new game is better than the old then who cares

personally id much rather keep it the same than ruin it tryiong to be innovative. Just because something is new doesnt mean its better.

P.S and yes just because its new doesnt mean it will be worse either, but it's far more likely

i hope they bring back kessesn as that was my fave game series from koei. i think they should give the dynasty warriors series a complete change over similer to the way it went from ps1 to ps2 from a 1vs1 beat um up to the hack and slash strategy game it is now. thats asking alot but it needs a change even if they dont there are ways they can add to the current series like a proper create a charecter not the half baked one that was in one of the previeouse games. hell i still wish for a dynasty warriors game with blood and gore lol
