Best of 2008: Top 5 Portable Games

Wired: "For the gamer on the go, here are our favorite portable videogames of 2008.

Handheld gaming has come a long way in the last few years. In 2003, the only choice that a gamer had to make was whether to buy a blue or a pink Game Boy Advance. But now, you can play the industry leader Nintendo DS Lite with its touch screen and vast library of games and productivity apps. You could choose Sony's PSP for its high-quality graphics. Or you can skip them entirely and play games on your iPhone."

Chains of olympus wins hands down. Whatever game comes out the same yr as GOW automatically loses awards. Its just the way it is

You won't find a bigger god of war fan than me but there's one complaint I had about chains of olympus. It was 5 HOURS LONG! Great game and nice fit in prequel to the epic series on ps2 but 5 hours long? Come on...and then I played it again with all my equiptment and it took me 3 hours 45 minutes.

How he came to the conclusion, that Chains of Olympus didnt match the quality of the console versions. I mean I know it's his opinion and all, but the game looked and played amazing, and still sets the high mark for graphical acheivements on a portable platform to this day. I cant count how many reviewers, and retrospective gamers have sited Chains of Olympus as pure awesomeness in a handheld package. However, I noticed that perhaps there were a few more worth mentioning...

I can see where you are coming from with the story, but graphics and gameplay, thats two out of three things they got so right. The PSP isnt a Playstation 2 ya know, it only has a storage capacity of 1.8Gb(roughly 1/4 of a DVD 1). So even with those constraints they still pulled off something as great as Chains of Olympus(ON A PORTABLE). So while we agree that the story wasnt as good as the PS2 iterations, for the PSP platform it's an unbeleivable collage of gaming goodness. That is only my opinion, but thats why I had a problem with the wording. As if it was an inferior version, because there are no other games with that ilk and id, on the PSP.

Well in my opinion Chains didn't match the quality of the original. Don't get me wrong it was a great effort and still easily one of the best games on PSP. But in terms of epicness it fell short. For me it was more a story thing though...gameplay and graphics were great

No Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the list? Although I haven't played any of the other games on this list [still kicking myself for still not having played chains of Olympus] It's a great game, though probably not on the list because of lack of advertisement and what not. Either way wish it was up there.

4 - For me
It would be between God of War Chains of Olympus or Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core.

I expected more from VII Crisis Core but GoW Chains of Olympus was phenomenal
