In the wake of mixed emotions following the announcement of Chrono Trigger, and based on a breakup letter from an ex girlfriend, VG Colosseum presents an open letter to Square.

Squaresoft,

Remember when I used to call you that? Before all this Sqare Enix stuff happened? Way before Squeenix? Those were wonderful days. I loved you and I thought you loved me back. I totally agree with this letter, Squaresoft were once so great infact looking back now they were legendary. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was their downfall, you are still sorely missed.

Not going to agree or disagree with any of this.

Instead, just wanted to point out that I got a bad feeling that this whole issue could be blown way out of proportion (not knowing if it has or not or if so on what end, but still, this could be a subject that could be read as more than what it really is).

It was just Final Fantasy that made Squaresoft king of the mountain.

It was Vagrant Saga, Parasite Eve, and Xenogears.

I just wish some of these companies would sto prehashing the same stories and give us some new IPs.

I'm tired of sequels that are never great.

I want new material.

Why DS? I want a console remake/sequel of Chrono Trigger. The DS fanbase does not care for RPG's, put this baby on the Wii, PS3, 360 or hell, I will even take a PS2 version.

I hate playing RPG's on handhelds.

Reading this made me nostalgic for days gone. I miss you Squaresoft. During the 90s, I spent thousands of hours in your worlds, and loved every one. We grew up together, and I know without a shadow of doubt that who I am today is at least partially the result of the messages imparted in your stories. I know it will never be the same, and its partly your fault and partly mine. You changed and so did I.

Glasses up and cheers, Square! I can't help but think that Enix changed you for the worse, so I'll hold the memories close and still get chills when I hear a ticking clock.
