Play Classic SNES Games On Your DS!

Super Nintendo or more commonly known as SNES was known as part of the golden years of gaming. Nintendo reigned as the dominating force in the video gaming world and many great games were created for the Super Entertainment System. Thanks to the power of emulators and the power of a little cart called the M3 DS you can now play your favorite SNES games right on your DS.

For people who are new to emulation, emulation has been around for a very long time. Basically it consists of a program that emulates the hardware of something, say the Super Nintendo, on another system so that you can play game from the emulated system. Now there can be a lot written about emulation, which Nintendo Fanalliance will cover at a future date, but for purposes of this article Nintendo Fanalliance are going to focus mainly on emulating the Super Nintendo Hardware on the Nintendo DS.

Kinda old news, but I'm waiting for the DS or PSP to have a perfect SNES emulator so I can play Super Mario RPG or FF3 without flaws.

No wonder. To emulate something, you need roughly 10 times the processing power (just an estimation, though). Problem is, the DS only has two rather slow CPUs build in (no bashing). Although they can produce quite nice graphics on par with the N64 and better, it is not enough to software emulate things like a SNES. The PSP is better suited for such things since it has a lot faster CPU - problem here is that most emulators were abandoned and nobody takes care of them now, i.e. optimizes them. Regarding the SNES, there is another problem in emulating which even PC emulators had trouble for quite some time with: Some SNES games (Yoshi's Story, Starfox, etc.) come with a special GFX chip build on to enhance the capabilities of the SNES in terms of graphics. These are apparently very hard to emulate properly. Long story short, it is very unlikely to see a emulator which is on par with the PC version on either the DS or PSP, although especially the latter one has some promising things going on already.

i know that, interpreters are SLOWER....
However, Emulators on the PSP have lots of slow down while these incomplete emulators for the DS are actually smooth. im surpised about it.
