Start up Monster Racers for the first time and, presuming you're familiar with how Pokémon games work, you'll feel more than a little déjà vu in the initial five minutes. Specifically, it's around the point where you're asked to pick out a monster from a starting list of three, each of which are unique enough to make your choice important, that you'll gasp at how blatant Monster Racers' homage to Pokémon appears to be. And yet, as soon as that starts, you're thrown headfirst into the game's new method of pitting monsters against one another. Five minutes later and you'll have forgotten why you ever doubted it in the first place. Well, maybe.
