Dragon Quest 8 was develop by Level 5(White Knight Developers) and that was the best JRPG Square Enix has release in the pass 10 years personally for me. If it not being made by Level 5, then F@#K it.

Level 5 really made DQ8. Which is why it was such a fantastic game that put DQ on/back on the map. Aside from whoever is on the Final Fantasy team it seems SE can't really pull off anything special, or that good anyway. So DQ+SE=lackluster imho. They might be able to pull off an ok game, but Wii? Leaves me having no interest. PS360 for me. And I'd be willing to bet DQ will hit the bargain bin w/in a couple months on the Wii because Wii gamers, aside from the Core few, just aren't interested in this kind of game, or so it seems imo.............

Base on Square Enix recent track record of JRPG, I will have to see a lot more, and would have to play this game first before deciding to buy another Wii to play it. the biggest complaint about the wii is its graphical capabilities now in this case it is its greatest strength.The release date of 2013-1014 would be realistic if they were developing the game for hd consoles not the wii.It does not take that long to make a game for the wii.The hardware isn't that powerful that you need to spend a lot of mony or time develpoing extremely detailed assets for the game as you would have to on either the ps3 or 360.

And in reply to another comment i read earlier.Atlus will most likely not have person 5 on the ps3 because of development costs if it wanted to get it on there it would have done so already or made some announcement.Atlus isn't big enough to incur the costs of developing for the HD consoles.And every one of their 360 releases have been tagged as having sub-standard graphics which won't do much better on the ps3 as its more complex and time consuming to program for.The ps3 doesn't have a lead.Atlus will stick to ps2 wii and handheld development for the foreseeable future most likely unless there si a hug change in the current global economic status.

FFCC says hello from 3 years of development..With nothing to show for it..I'd say with an announcement now the game is already in the works. If they really try to use the Wii to its fullest and not just crappy PS2 graphics then it will take some time.. If FFCC ever sees the light of day it will be a good indication of how DQ10 will be.

Consoles have ALWAYS been about graphics, and stepping them up each generation. The difference between a PS2 and an xbox last gen was NOTHING compared to the difference between a Wii and PS3. Er, Enix never developed a DQ title in house. They always outsourced the work. Level 5 helped to bring the title into the modern era, so they did a lot for the franchise. Add to the fact that they are probably one of the best Japanese RPG developers around, and you can't help but give them props.

but yeah your edited comment isn't too nice.For one the wii being a lower spec machine won't need quite as much space to hold the entire game.Twilight princess with its realistic art style could fit onto a 1.5 gb disc and the game was 60-70 hours long whcih is good length.Thw wii has 8.5 gb i believe on its optical disc which easily allows for a lot of content much more than a game developed for the 360 could.so its nto a fair comaparison.

And in what world is it true that if you don't support a particular console you aren't a hardcore gamer? The ds has more games and more hardcore games than the psp.yet people here call the ds a casual crappy system purely based on its graphical capabilities. There are lots of people out there who love gaming, but does it mean they ahve to give up their har earned cash just to enjoy once in while or a few hours every day.After the system is bought , you have to throw in the money for each game which is expensive. Okay look at how many rpgs/jrpgs have been released for the hd consoles, not that damn many. The ps2 rpgs are better than any on the hd consoles.

The ps2 has been out almost 9 yrs, this generation consoles 3-4 so yeah, yah think.

It's a bit stupid to try and compare the 2 generations when the main rpgs haven't even been released yet and not all the rpg makers have switched to the next gen yet.

Now when the ps3/xbox 360 is 5-9 years old then you can actually have a semi-decent comparison.

Funny disgaea 3, eternal sonata, and folklore didn't have anything i would call that revolutionary and yet i enjoyed each of them.

Lastly the hd consoles have done nothing to revolutionize jrpgs and the ps2 did what exactly to revolutionize jrpgs, oh yeah graphical upgrades.

Final fantasy x played very similar to 7 and 8, the xenosaga series played similar to xenogears.

Typically when jrpgs try new or revolutionary things in their games it has a chance of pissing their fans off big time.

So how is the wii going to revolutionize jrpgs, instead of pressing a button to attack/use a spell you swing your arm/stab/thrust towards the tv with the wiimote?

My friend you need to relax a little. Clearly Nintendo has won and they did so using not the might of the graphics chip but the ease of simplicity.

I would like a clear argument to why the haters believe that having an RPG such as DQ or whatever else that require little to no major physics use or graphic heavy chip, could the game not be made on a weaker system if it didn't need the above? If they are keeping the control as standard and not using the pointer then they can put it on PS2 also. Then why not put it on the system with such a large user base?

I'm excited about it. Every Dragon Quest game in the past has been quality (except DQ: Swords), and I don't see why this will be any different.

I agree that SE should be developing some better games for high def consoles (the fact that Persona 4 for PS2 is going to be better than anything SE has put out this year is pretty sad), but I don't see why this has to be one of them. The series strives on cartoon style graphics. The Wii has plenty enough power to handle that. Sure, it won't look like Ratchet and Clank, but as long as the core gameplay is there, I really don't care what it looks like. I bought the Dragon Quest IV remake on DS, and it wasn't exactly gorgeous or anything, but it was still a fun game.

I didnt think that they would make another DQ game this gen but hey, i gotta Wii. Why would any company put out a game on the console with the largest install base. Say what you guys will about the Wii, its #1 and all devs should put thier games on it. Instead of porting once great games between the HD consoles and dumming them down.

Now japanese developpers can't ignore the wii even if they want it.
Two of the most big titles are on wii.
I hope just we don't have to wait two years more than the japanese to play it.

This is a smart decision. The Wii has a large casual audience, so people will buy games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest. Since I am not a DQ fan, I will pass on this one. Kingdom Hearts 3 would sell very well since Disney is casual.
