1UP: Prey the Stars Review

1UP writes: "While I still don't know what the hell the title means, I do know that Prey the Stars is a chaotic joy. As one of four Pokémon knockoff characters, your main goal is to eat everything in sight. Sounds simple, but Stars is actually a complex, tense, and competitive game with an undeniable Mario Kart-meets-Pac-Man vibe...but with a few notable problems.

Each stage is set on a floating grid, with edible items spawning at different sizes. Eating power-ups (think Pac-Man power pellets) triggers a growth spurt, enabling you to eat larger, higher-scoring objects. To unlock the next stage, you must meet specific challenges -- some are simple, while others are downright devious. One challenge forced me to avoid eating power-ups, making me the runt (and easy target) of the board. In multiplayer, though, you need only reach the highest score to win. This where Stars' complexity evolves, but simply competing for the highest score between friends gets old really quickly. I'd welcome additional classic modes like king of the hill or even deathmatch."
