VGChartz writes: "Guitar Hero Aerosmith kicked off the second half with a bang for software. Hardware sales were down from last week though.
As has been the case most weeks since the launch of Wii, Nintendo platforms accounted for over half of the hardware sales this week – 295,000 to 210,000. It was DS though that was the top seller for the week, in what Nintendo attributed at E3 to recent targeted advertising to women. PS3 and Xbox 360 continue to show some semblance of parity as they remain within 5% of each other in the Americas this week. PSP is slightly above its HD brethren, at 62,000, while PS2 continues to ever so slowly decline toward 30,000 units per week.
Year over year comparisons show that the industry is in amazing health despite ongoing economic concerns in the USA portion of the Americas market. PS3 and Wii both sales in 2008 are up over 35,000 units from 2007 levels in early July. Xbox 360 sales are up 13,000 units from the previous year, while DS sales are up nearly 20,000 units from the previous year. PSP literally saw almost no change in sales, but the aging PS2 is down 44% from last year and the drops should hold steady or grow in coming weeks and months.
