VGChartz writes: "Software sales in Japan remain pretty quiet. The notable exception was Persona 4 for the PS2 which debuted to sales of nearly 180,000. The focus in coming weeks will be on DS vs. PSP as Dragon Quest V launches, and on 360 vs. PS3 as Tales of Vesperia
Persona 4 had a strong debut for the PS2. The game sold over 175,000 units in its debut. Aside from that big launch though, software sales remained very quiet. In fact, no other titles topped even 40,000 units during the week. The most interesting part of the preliminary data this week is actually what didn't show up. Tales of Symphonia (Wii) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) were completely out of the preliminary top twenty, which suggests a big drop off or shipment irregularities. As has been the case in most weeks, for months now, the majority of the top twenty continues to be found on the portable platforms in Japan.
Key Points:
- DS software is now outselling PSP software by a significant margin once more. That trend should continue with the upcoming re-release of Dragon Quest V this week.
-Wii titles continue to show huge legs, with Mario Kart and Wii Fit actually seeing a slight increase in sales from the previous week by the preliminary data.
Hardware Predicted Totals:
