"Call of Duty" is finally moving forward!
It's a hype to make a horror spin-off game out of almost every game. We just have to wait until Mario Zombies or We Dance Undead show up. We've made a top 5 of the best horror spin-off games of this console generation.
I’ve been told that Call of Duty is an abomination. It’s a slap in the face to a “real” game, if you will. I’ve been told ‘this game takes no talent,’ ‘is garbage,’ ‘is filled with nine-year-old kids,’ and is flawed beyond belief.
It makes me feel like these are excuses for not playing the game, not reasons. I don’t know what your views are (please tell me), but I know where I stand.
As for the game ‘taking no talent’ to play, that’s all a matter of opinion. I have a feeling that most of the people saying it ‘takes no talent,’ most likely have no talent in the game, or get beaten into submission when trying to play.
I am not just against CoD, I am against the over saturation of shooters that has infested the market, and made innovation much harder to come by...
It's supply and demand, shooters wouldn't get made if gamers weren't buying them up by the millions, it's gamers who drive what gets made, whatever sells well gets made, and shooters sell, end of story.
COD is a casual game with it's aim assist. Kids love it since they can succeed in it fairly easily. Put a 11 yo child in a match of BF3 and he'll squeal like a pig and ragequit and go back to COD.
the success of a casual shooter is a threat to this entire industry as far as real gamers are concerned. That's why there is so much hate.
It must be carefully planned at Activision HQ to make the game accessible to children. They are bound to play it since their parents don't care. They are bound to be hooked to the game.
IMO Activision is exploiting parents' neglectting their kids. Not that they would ever admit it though. It's all a part of the great big plan. Activision can easily say this is not true since the game has a mature rating. They can wash their hands from that dirt just like that. The plan is perfect.
I hated CoD due to the multiplayer being anti-competitive with killstreak rewards handing out free or easier unearned kills. The low shots to kill favors campers and noob tubers; and puts very little focus on headshots or the ability to maintain your aim on a target. Etc. In short, the multiplayer is unskilled, uncompetitive.
That is why I think Resistance: Fall of Man had/has the best, most competitive multiplayer. Besides a few weapons like the LAARK, 40mm, Bullseye tag, prepatch shotgun, and postpatch Arc Charger.. R:FoM was all skill. High shot to kill ratio, so you had to maintain your aim on your target. Significant enough headshot/bodyshot damage difference for more focus again placed on aiming and maintaining aim on a target (and not too much so 1 stray headshot isn't a lucky premature kill). No BS free killstreak rewards. No BS deathstreak rewards. No invisibility. No impenetrable mobile shields. No health or armor bonuses. No playing dead. No auto turrets. Etc. Aiming skill could turn around a corner camper getting the jump on you. 2 & 3 became more and more CoDified and anti-competitive.
I eventually did buy CoDs when they hit $10-15 (and platinumed each of them.. WaW, BO, MW2, MW3.. along with R2 and R3 mentioned above). I bought them for Single Player and coop. They're worth eventual buys for Campign, Spec Ops, and Zombies; but not Multiplayer. There are minimal decent MP modes in CoD like BlackOps' Gun Game, which doesn't have killstreak rewards or give more experienced players extra advantage with upgraded weapons.
Don't pay $60 every year on the new CoD. Buy it around $30 a few months after release or even lower later on if you're patient. Don't pay for overpriced map packs. Don't pay for Elite for things like clans that should be included. Don't play its garb anti-competitive MP that much. Do play through its very playable Campaign and Co-op modes including Spec Ops and Zombies. Then you won't have much to 'hate' about CoD.
Why? Because it's the same shit every year and some gamers are intelligent enough to realize when they are being screwed over by giant corporations.
Gamers that have been around the block know that COD hasn't REALLY changed in 5 years.
The same exact situations and events happen over and over in the series. The multiplayer changes are minor. The maps keep getting worse.
It's just one of those things where the fans are massive, but the people who recognize the game's flaws have a strong voice because the game's popularity is way over what it should be considering. Another example; Angry Birds.
I have no idea why CoD gets so much hate. I haven't bought a CoD game since MW2 but i still don't go around the internet trying to tell people they are retarded or not a real gamer for playing something they like. Yes alot of games are trying to be like CoD right now and it is currently making the video game market not as diverse as it used to be, but i have a feeling that will pass just like when platformers is all they made on the old systems. I think CoD is good for the gaming industry because its actually creating more gamers by taking all the casual/non gamer ppl and getting them more involved with the gaming community. And yes i agree with EeJLP the game has a VERY low skill cap do to everything he just said(small health pools, huge body shot damage, and free kills with kill streaks/death streaks) thats the reason I don't buy it, but it doesn't bother me that other people enjoy a good easy shooter, ill just stick to playing games like Halo or tribes. And no im not saying CoD is easy because i suck at it, i was great at MW2, all you have to do is be aware of your surrounding and play smart as apposed to other games where, along with the previously mentioned, strafing/jumping and actually landing precise shots in succession matters.
This is an addition to my last post. If your issue is that every game is trying to be like CoD, don't hate the game, hate the developers/publishers that can't innovate and try to be like CoD. CoD isn't necessarily the problem, the problem is games cost alot to make now adays and greedy publishers make their dev teams develop what they think will be successful rather than innovative.
Because of its noob friendly twitchy repetitive sprint-shoot-die gameplay and its sequels are just glorified yearly expansions(like Madden) and undeserving of its sales. It's a game that "everyone plays" so it's supposed to be good and better than anything else, right? /s
Many of the sheep who play it think that any other game is inferior and don't give other really great games a chance. Some of these sheep seem to be addicted and don't have fun playing it and spend most of the time cursing at 12 year-old kids online because they take that shit so serious.
Okay, maybe a bit harsh. But it's a shame when other developers change elements in their games because they want a piece of the pie.
http://www.gameinformer.com...
It's a disease.
cod haters= 1 million- all of them on Gaming sites.
cod fans= 20-25million- 0.2 being on gaming sites.
Activsion are complete ass holes and runied Infinity Ward , most of the team fled for the hills after mw2 was not up to par , well the real MW2 will come out when Respawn Entertainment say so.
Here's a few reasons i can think of
1. Some people just love to downplay what is popular/successful and fight for the underdog. Whether it be Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Kinect, the Wii, Halo, Mario and Call of Duty. The more successful it is the more they want to hate it.
2. Some feel that Call of Duty is too successful and hurts the competition around it. So by hating it and being negative towards it they hope others will follow and hope the next one isn't as popular. As we can see that tactic hasn't worked.
3. Some people act like elitists and think they are better gamers than that. So they take an arrogant stance and say things like why are you playing such a noob game. The reality is you shouldn't care what other people enjoy.
4. Some see the marketing and big corporations brainwashing gamers and getting them to buy the same game over and over again. What they fail to realize is Call of Duty has a feel to it that millions seem to enjoy. It's no different than those who continue to support Gran Turismo, Halo and even a lot of Mario games. They too share the same formula.
5. Many, including myself, see publishers like Activision take less chances and focus on mostly what works and oversaturate the market with it. It happened with Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. There comes a time the IP simply gets too watered down with not enough new ideas to take it to. Since Call of Duty does so well that is where the main focus is instead of creating new IP's. What's happening this generation is less risks and a large reason for that is simply the cost to make these games have gotten out of hand.
I think EA is worse then activison actually. No online passes, on disk DLC, and subscribion service that doesnt just give 5 camos to the same 5 guns, ect ect.
I hate COD because every other shooter trys to be like COD, Not because its popular.. That really is ruining this gen for me, and games are becomeing so simple and mainstream because of games like cod to a point where games not even in the same genera play like COD. Twisted Metal PS3 is a good example, it felt like a COD tdm racing game.(vary sad thing to happen to my favorite franchise). Just tired of all the hype over a shooter that isnt even that great. Devs message to you: Stop making everything like COD! find your own style, and stop trying to steal COD players, if you make a good game people will play it!
If it wasn't for Demons Souls and Dark Souls and other decent games, this gen would really be a suckie mainstream mess
Try and tell which is which?

Call of Duty is the most popular first person shooter on earth. It has the most fans of any shooter on earth. Therefor, it will have the most haters of any shooter on earth.
I'm not a lover or a hater of the franchise... I could live without it, but I still play the campaigns... very rarely I'll play the online.
My main concerns with the game are the overpriced DLC, which has set a standard in the industry for overpriced DLC, the unbalanced online in some of the CoD games, the lack of open beta which could fix bugs pre-launch, and the lack of fixing bugs post-launch. Some within the development community of CoD have gone as far as to blame players for exploiting bugs instead of fixing them. Lastly, the lack of taking some of that money they make hand over fist and investing in new tech for the game, like a new engine.
Even with all that, I do not hate CoD, I just expect more from the premier shooter with the most sales in the industry. It's okay to be critical if you have real concerns. I've played every CoD title since the first and really hope the series can improve in the areas I listed, that would be great.
Suppose I should say I don't hate Call Of Duty , I just hate Activision and what they do with great franchises.
People are so sour. I like COD. Is it hard? No. Are there better games I play? Yes for example Ghost Tecon is cooler than COD. But COD is fun. It's not that I love it do much but my friends like it a lot and playing with them is so much fun. We're all sily and having a good time. I'll pick up a COD game everyone once in a while at half price an I have to say Black Ops is adding some new stuff that the series needs. It doesn't make me not a real gamer. I think a lot of people are sore because games are becoming mainstream. Why on earth is that bad? Companies get more money to make awesome games. Ubisoft Sao they use the money from Just Dance and stuff to make Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell. I play Uncharted, Batman, Zelda, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Civilization, Mario, Kid Icarus, FIFA, NBA, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid and more. You can't tell me I'm not a gamer because I say COD is fun.
It doesnt:
20 million People love COD
a very small percentage of people actually show up on the forums to complain.
Console gamers just can get enough of COD.
There are pretty much two ways to go about dealing with CoD's presence, and these depend entirely on your like or dislike of the game --
1) You love it: Do what any fan would do -- follow and play the game ravenously.
2) You hate it: Pretend it doesnt exist. You will look like an idiot because no matter what you say, it's not going anywhere. Play your own game and avoid getting trolled.
I'd love to be able to ignore COD and pretend like it doesn't affect me because I don't play it.
Unfortunately that isn't true.
COD isn't entirely to blame but it has contributed a significant amount to the lack of innovation and over saturation of dull FPSs.
That's why we hate it so much, and we have a very big right to hate it.
If u openly hate cod you were obviously once a former lover. These haters are upset because their love had abandoned them and they go around bashing the game to look for sympathy from similar players feeling their pain.
If u truly to not care about a game you'd pay no attention to it. Where there is hate there is love and admiration.
-major in psychology
Like many here said, it's to noob friendly.
Killstreaks encourage camping.
Small maps and just packed with claymores, c4, campers killstreaks flying above you, it's just no fun anymore.
I used to play it, and i still do sometimes because it seems like this is the only game my friends have, but starting from cod 4 and 5, the game just went downhill, FAST.
Just my 2cents,
@jess...
That is such a typical response. Sorry to fly off the handle, but it is not CoD's fault CoD is successful or that these idiot publishers (and in some cases, developers) dont have the damn brains to realize that CoD4 blew up because it did the shooter in a way that hadn't really been done before -- not because they made a carbon copy of a shooter before it (though it did draw influences).
CoD is not responsible for the lack of innovation in the industry -- it is the developers and the publishers that are to blame. Activision didn't hold a gun to anyone's head and say "you must be exactly like us and only develop half-baked clones of CoD forever!"
It's just so convenient to blame CoD for everything. F*ck it wont be long before people are blaming CoD for global warming and the poor economy.
I dislike COD for its lone wolf multiplayer, and the fact team based games (which I love in multiplayer) turn to garbage due to killstreaks
I never bought a COD with my own money, but I was amazed at the sheer stupidness of MW2's tactical nuke
Im running flags, and you tell me that even with one flag away, with the enemy team taking none of ours... we lose because someone was camping in a corner and used a grenade launcher, resuplied it over and over again, and then ultimatelty wins the game, with out contributing to the objective?
Thats why I hate COD
With all due respect, anybody who can get 20+ kills without dying deserves that nuke. If your team doesn't much care about K/D and was focussed on the objective, great, but if they're walking into the same area time and time again and/or are unable/uninterested in dealing with one person, you can't blame THAT person for taking advantage of the situation.
Take the killstreaks out, change the game, that guy is still kicking your ass. The only difference is you'd have won the match.
@ matgrowcott
That would be true if MW2 wasn't a broken, or to put it nicely, very exploitable game. For example, I was playing Domo on the airport level. Dropped care package, got a gunship, and now comes the fun part. Thanks to the broken spawn system, the entire enemy team keeps spawning in that room in the back of the terminal. There was nothing they could do, they couldn't move, it was spawn and die. 25 kills, nuke, broken game. A Utube search will show many examples of how easy it is to get a cheap Tac. Nuke.
@roguewarrior
I'm not saying that there aren't glitches and people willing to exploit them. I'm saying that the game itself doesn't frequently spawn you in crazy places.
In this particular case though, the guy doesn't complain about any of that. He just says that he should have won and didn't thanks to the nuke. In those circumstances, with negative K/D and a single guy making a joke of our entire team (whatever he might be doing to earn it), I wouldn't be happy with a win.
I hate cod because other publishers are scared to release a awesome game because they think their game wouldn't sell. Borderlands released around cod and did quite well when all the pundits said t would fail n a huge way, yeh I am looking at u patcher. So did uncharted 2 and we all knw it did well
I am just against any game that has a yearly release
Battlefield
Cod
Med of honor
Assassins creed. I hate AC more than COD because all the AC games have been kind f same old but AC3 looks to have changed a lot f things
The reason Sony,Microsoft and Nintendo posted looses because gamers are kind of tred of been there done that. Watch halo 4 will not sell more than halo 3 and halo 3 launched when xbox360 had a much smaller fan base.
Please bring out some new fresh games. A least Sony has done that a lt this gen many great new IP and last of us along with beyond 2 souls shuld be a fitting end to ps3.
The reason the big three posted losses isn't because they didn't put millions and millions of dollars into untested and potentially risky IP. If you believe that (and you're not alone) then you have no idea.
Binary Domain was one of the best games I've played this year. Excellently designed, enjoyable, great story - why don't you ask SEGA how that new IP went down for them. It was in the bargain bins within a month of release. How many of these people screaming for new IPs bothered to buy that brand new?
You really cant hate CoD, when Modern Warfare came out it was revolutionary. There are still some innovative shooters, Hybrid, Transformers WFC, etc. Why dont you complain about Halo huh!? Look I like Halo and i dont mind CoD, if you dont like it then stop buying it simple as that.CoD isnt a bad game at its core you guys dont see that...its the fact they dont change anything is why its bad. Halo is on its 6th shooter nothing has changed I dont complain...i bet if they spread out the production of the CoD games so you dont get one every year we wouldnt complain so much. Sadly lots of people complain about CoD but end up getting it anyways. It is a fun game guys...gosh dont hate so much. Do what i do...get bored play Halo or somthing else. Plus if you were a videogame company would you stop making something thats flooding you with cash!? I mean look Microsoft will never get rid of Halo, or stall its death because they get so mush $$$. Look the shooter genre is saturated...but complaining about one that was revolutionary and saying its not is just dumb...and dont say Battlefield is tottally diffrent cuz its not.
Don't be so defensive just because you don't agree with me... And I don't like Halo, I loved the first one, but never could get into it again. CoD4 was good, I will hand you that. But I have never, and will never purchase a CoD game, nor do I play Battlefield.
The only FPS I have really played this generation is Killzone, because the story is kinda cool. I guess The Darkness II might count, but I use melee more then guns...
I don't play Battlefield, CoD or Halo.
I dont disagree with you and im not defensive im just saying CoD is revolutionary. How can you really have an opinion on modern FPS if the only one you really played is Killzone, the most bland FPS out there. I dont hate Killzone I own all 3. I agree shooters are bland but to say CoD and is bad is an insult to FPS. Its like saying Zelda sux...you dont do that LOL.
Okay, I have played CoD2, 4, Mw2, WaW, and Blops. I never liked them much. I will concede that CoD4 was the best, and I had fun with the offline mode in it. And again, I play Killzone for it's story, but the gameplay is cool, and I like the cover system in it, very well done.
But all in all, one shooter is like the next to me. So I found one franchise I liked the story to, and got it, I liked KZ2 online, but generally, I don't play online games, I used to play a massive amount of SOCOM 2, for most modern shooters are to much like a frag fest.
I prefer more tactical gameplay.
The main people that complain are the ones that just aren't good at the game. Everyone can hate all they want to but I guarantee at midnight release, every single one of you will be in line waiting for your copy of Black Ops 2.
I won't be last COD game i bought was MW2. And i played the shit out of it until all the hackers and glitchers came.
I agree games with tactical emphasis like League of Legends and Warcraft are really cool, CoD4 was the best undoubtedly but saying you play Killzone for the story is some-what agreeable but the story in Halo is way cooler...being a very picky guy when it comes to story...sorry off topic, i do agree with you though...there really isnt anymore variation in shooters now...but hey if you like tactics and hate normal shooters play Hybrid...the game is very tactical...and its so different from all shooters
I don't hate CoD. I'm just tried of it and as LordMe said the over saturation of shooters. By no means are CoD games bad. I want a new MP game that can hold my interest as long as CoD did.
There's nothing wrong with more shooters if they are original/fresh like Borderlands. The fact that Borderlands 2's pre-orders are through the roof indicate that PLENTY of gamers out there are either tired of buying COD every year, willing to try something new, or both.
I agree with all of you, but companies make what people want. SpiderMike said it to me best when he said, "CoD is the McDonalds of the gaming industry. Everyone knows it's garbage but they play it. It's convenient, you know what you are getting and almost everyone else does as well." I agree with that, and counter with--"Or, deep down, you either secretly love it, or can't cook."
And they're both filled with recycled materials! Bam!
But 1 is cheap, the other is not :(
My theory is that a lot of people experienced buyers remorse.
They loved COD4 then as the years went by and they bought essentially the same game a few too many times, they directed the anger meant for themselves towards the COD series.
For me it happened after buying MW2, the campaign was short and shit and the MP was plagued by constant arial attacks. I was pissed I spent $60 on a game I got bored with after 10hrs.
Generally, I think COD is a great series as a lot of people have a tonne of fun with it. It's just not for me because I got my fill in COD4 and not much has changed.
Wha?! I MW2 was my favorite and the last one I put a considerable amount of time into. I loved the fact that it was so unbalanced for people that are good (me). Noob tube, scavanger and airstrikes all day made it awesome.
I bought MW2, and i played the shit out of it until all the hackers and glitchers came and Activision / Infinity Ward never got rid of them.
That was what turned me off from MW2. Then a friend showed me BF: BC2 that changed my gaming world. Now I am currently hooked on Battlefield 3. There is nothing like planting C4 on a tank and blowing it up or flying an attack helicopter shooting down jets, evading javelin missiles. Or Sniping a guy from 1/2 way across the map while you have to adjust your aim for bullet drop.
***"Why Does Call of Duty Have So Many Haters"***
Because it isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be.
I personally hate when youngster comes up to me and praise how good COD is, and how real it looks, and how fast the game plays. Then when I play it, the gameplay is way too fast pace, i don't even know what the game is about or why i am in the war in the first place....
That and other shooterss try to emulate COD elements. COD copycats. -__-
There are a lot of games that aren't as good as everyone makes them out to be, yet they don't get the forum hate that COD gets.
Hipsters these days, I think I'll stick to liking unpopular games, just so all the cool kids aren't complaining about those games.
So because someone doesn't like CoD that makes them a hipster? LOL
There are more reasons than that as to why people hate CoD. Being popular is one of them, but definitely not the main reason as there are a lot of games that are popular, yet they don't get the forum hate that CoD gets.
No the real question is "why do people follow the COD Cycle"
1) Buys new COD
2) Complains about almost everything about it, and says it sucks compared to the previous one.. complain nothing has changed, and then flame on videos, aggregate review sites, etc
3) A new COD is announced 4 months later
4) People complain in the first few weeks
5) After E3 people are all pumped up for it
6) The game finally launches, selling millions of copies, taking away from the sales of other good games
7) Start over from step one and repeat the whole cycle over and over and over again
The love hate relationship confuses the piss out of me... I don't like the game because of how its community plays it, exploits it, etc
But the actual community confuses me greatly... it seems so many people hate it... but the games sell record numbers
Hell I can't stand MachinimaRespawn due to the overwhelming ammount of COD content... I love the rare stuff there like Assassins creed, Gotham City imposters, etc
I disagree.
I think the people we see complaining don't actually buy the game. You claim people hate the game and still buy it but I don't think these people actually exist.
There are far more uneducated casuals out there that don't know what a good game is than core players that have standards.
The people complaining are sadly the minority.
It's the casuals that are to blame for the high sales numbers. As long as these fools continue to buy the same game every year, Bobby has no reason what so ever to spend extra money on making a better game.
I would have to agree. But, it seems that this crowd is similar to the Sports gaming crowd...like Madden. I have seen many of my friends buy these games year after year hoping for a significant change. Then, they are disappointed 2 months later when it gets stale. Then, they convince themselves that it actually IS a good game. (probably to justify the purchase) Only to finally realize that they don't really like it, but the next one will be better. So, until then, they keep playing. Diehard COD and Madden players run that endless cycle and I am just as confused as you!
I can only speak for myself here, but CoD offers a huge amount of value to me. It's one of the few online games that offers a split-screen mode, meaning my girlfriend and I can play together on the same screen. With only a few copies of the game we can easily play with other couples across the world without region-locked servers or the need to muck about for hours to get into a single game. There really are a lack of games that allow us to do that.
Add to the fact that Call of Duty is a fun and easy game to play, especially with friends, and it's well worth the entry fee.
If I bought it to play on my own and expected a year's worth of play out of it, I'd be disappointed. With an 8 hour campaign, a ton of special ops missions/zombie levels and an addictive multiplayer though, I think I'd still probably get more than bang for my buck.
No hate .. just stop making more Call of duty games for the love of gaming and do not make other companies feel abandoned toward to your sales and tracks your ideas about ways that make sales in a dirty ways .. The situation is unlikely to become at all more companies rebel against their fans just for greed .. There's no way to stop this if the CEO of activision isn't Fired !
Because people are tired of playing the same exact game every single year with no change in creative direction.
Bingo!!!! That is it... DLC and a patch with a $59.00 price tag. Instead of continuing to fix what is already there. COD and Madden are notorious for this. I don't hate them but be true to your product and the audience by just labeling MW3 as COW: MW2.5 or better yet MW2 part 2 with a sub title especially since the story continues in the campaign. WITHOUT competition this will continue and everyone will continue to buy. I call it the Madden syndrome. A roster update with a patch to fix everything everyone complained about last year and a minor adjustment bc you gave up on patching and working of what is already being played with a $59.00 price tag.
Exactly, As it stand Cod is competing against the fans. these key factors are declining in cod
Sales: Cod may have ground breaking sales every year at launch, but there continuation sales after launch were disappointing, selling less than Black Ops in January. so the fans are starting to see the staleness of cod (Finally).
(Reviews) MW3 being the lowest rated title when it comes to user reviews, despite IGN's 9.00 score allot of people were agitated because of lack of change and innovation, and not only that but all the bugs were present in MW3 that were "supposed" to get fixed in MW2. Plus the bugs of its own.
As with many people I don't hate cod but the devs behind it and Activision's greediness is bringing the series downhill fast, probably already hit rock bottom for some.
Lol quick rant: But cod is only staying true to the way entertainment works in our generation. Like how Madden MOH (and soon to be) Bf and AC get released every year. Or Like how a Lil Wayne or Drake album drops every year. How a Transformers drops every other year, Twilight, paranormal Activity, a Marvel film every year. Our generation is greedy lol
They made a few good COD games but i only count them cause i had fun playing clan play on pc :/ codv1 cod2 cod4. Afetr that nothing has been worth looking at for me.
CoD's a lot of fun. Most of the hate comes from either BF fanboys or David Cage groupies.
Most of the "hate" comes from people who don't like what CoD has become, or that it hasn't become anything more than it was.
The ONLY people I know that don't like Call of Duty are people who USED to love it. The number in my personal circle amounts to about 25-30 people. Three or four still buy the games, wasting their money on dashed hopes.
It's funny that you bring up BF3 and David Cage; the former is a better game(though not as good as it was a launch, now), and the latter MAKES better games than the CoD franchise. So people who recognize these games as better are automatically CoD haters? And what of those who don't like either one, but STILL hate CoD?
Start over and focus on creating a cast of characters...
add substance to the story...
add a little weight and realism to get the kids off the game...
focus on commanding a squad...
switch it up
and i got one question.... who is the main character of COD?
Wait, CoD has characters? Saying that any of them are one-dimensional characters is an insult to one-dimensional characters.
I thinks its jealousy, why doesn't my favorite game sell like that ? Why doesn't the game I feel should get those sale numbers don't ? I respect what people like to play, but I personally take pleasure in the new and the different.
im one of the few gamers that don't give a rats a$$ if my favorite game doesn't sell as good as COD. I was very comfortable playing kz2 online.... i don't know what your talking about sir.
I want to say that's ridiculous but as much as people seem to monitor sales and equate them with quality this generation, you may be right. Last generation, I had no idea PS2 was dominating like it was until after it was all over. This generation, just like last, I give no thought to sales while I'm enjoying my console and it's games. I don't care how much a game sells as long as there are people playing it online when I want to play, and as long as it sells enough to warrant a sequel. Jealousy never enters into it for me, but I bet it does for many on this site.
EDIT - I hate CoD because it's not my kind of game. I prefer teamwork, more players, and large maps over mindless run and gun rambo action with fewer players on smaller maps. Because the masses love CoD so much, it's ruining other games for me because devs try to CoD-ify their games in the name of sales.
There is no capable answer that someone can give that actually shows why you need to hate on it actually. Sure you dislike it personally yet that doesn't mean it warrants ridicule as millions love it as well.
Example Justin Bieber is loved by millions and just because people are foolish and jealous of the kid doesn't take away from the face that millions still love him and he continues to be a hit.
Because gamers today are children who don't know how to IGNORE! and move on to games that they LIKE! they should try it sometime it's very easy to do
Maybe because most of the haters are pissed off that the ps3 isn't the lead platform that they develop for. Causing the ps3 version to run like shit!
They hate it because its successful. It's more popular and has outsold every other game this generation.
because Killzone is so much better, imho. I cant stop playing Killzone, but cod gets old to me.
I hate CoD (Children Online Daycare) because it instill kids with a false, dangerous, and stupid sense of knowledge about firearms. Even more so, they have an illusion that warfare is fun and cool.
Being a firearms owner myself, it disgusts me to hear kids from the family talk about weapons they obvious don't know crap about and the heavy implication of using them. I can only hope they do not grow up to be a danger to society. Such shear disrespect for firearms and so little regard to using it to kill.
Perhaps it was just me being raised to respect firearms as a tool of freedom and self-defense, not a toy for waging war and causing misery.
Edit: Also... Clips and magazines are not the same thing.
I hate the games because I hate the idiots clamoring over them.
Then to suit the needs of the idiots, they make Modern Warfare worse and worse with each installment.
I only read the header, but I still have thoughts on that...
I dislike CoD because, as a single player game(I don't/can't play online) It is garbage. CoD 1, 2 and even WaW had great to decent SP modes, but the rest had "tunnel syndrome" progression.(something I think the Halo series has suffered from more and more with each iteration) I also dislike the fact that double tapping "L" auto fixes to enemies(a feature I never use), taking away what little gameplay is left(Aiming).
I disrespect the MP because the yearly Game releases with Bad Single Player and little to no gameplay change amount to glorified Map Packs, not full $60 games(think Capcom Fighting game "supers")
At its core, CoD is not a bad game. But I already own it, and feel saddened that so many will buy it over and over so that they won't get left behind in an "outdated" but wholly equivalent game they just bought last year.
I don't hate COD, I just hate it when companies think they have to emulate COD's success and make once great games (Like Splinter Cell) into mainstream shooters.
BINGO
No seriously, this is the worst part of the CoD hype, it wouldn't be so bad if the games just kept its casuals in one place, but nope, other games have to try to be the next CoD, and then the retards start spilling in, ruining every other good franchise out there.
It's just too popular.
mw3 copied the crap that was mw2 and some how made it worse, its a remarkable achievement if you ask me
Because COD is the cancer of gaming. It's slowly killing the industry and no one even notices.
I hate COD because:
1.- Fanboys talk about it as if it was the return of the messiah.
2.- It has no tactics. It's just shoot and run.
3.- Sets bad trends for the industry (Elite service later followed by battlefield premium).
4.- Activision is greedy as hell and deserves to be flamed (Sorry, but right now EA is nowhere near Activision in those terms. Maybe in the near future...)
I was away from home for a couple of months and came back and played COD. I realized what a piece of crap the online really is. I mean I knew it before but it really hit me hard this time. I think COD is for mindless drones. BF3 is a much solid game all around. I even think Gears 3 has better multiplayer. I have hopes for Black ops2.
It's called the 1% theory. The few haters have a bigger voice because they just have to yell and scream how it sucks. While gamers that enjoy it just play the game and don't waste their time on sites like this.
Celebrities, sports stars, adults, etc... all love and play this game. Modern Warfare's campaign is still some of the best action I have seen in a video game. Easily more action packed than games like Uncharted, Gears of War, and Halo. The campaign is pure blockbuster action packed goodness.
Wow, most of the complaints for this game seem to revolve around multiplayer. I guess i'm one of the few that buys the game for the solo campaign. Multiplayer doesn't appeal to me because i'm a casual gamer and i can't put in the time that most of these kids put into it to be really good at it....
Granted i do feel like it's lost it's luster after the 1st modern warfare but in no way do i hate the game as i still appreciate the production value. Why don't people complain about the Madden games that gets released every year with very little change??...people still by those in droves so what's the difference?
Seem like all those gamers who hate on the game just plain suck at the game. If you're good at the game I bet you don't have a grudge against it. That's just my opinion.
my last COD game was COD 4 and WAW. the . multiplayer has been the same since MW2 &3 .
i actually loved zombies on WAW.
As for BLOPS:
gungame is already available on Counter Strike: source
EDIT:gun game is WAAAY better on CS:S
Maybe one day when BLOPS drops down to 10 bucks i will purchase it used. BUT THATS IT.
to:INSOMNIUM2 and the other f u c k e r s!!! Call Of Duty 3 was my first in the line. Cod4 i was one of the best ps3 online players in AUS.World At War it was ok MW2 was shit cos the maps was built for hardcore camping.Black Ops hmm it was a bit different but I still finished in the top 3 but the hit detection for the smg's was pretty weak. MW3 the shooting is pretty similar to cod4 I feel likem my PP90M1 is my MP5 from cod4 and 99.9% I always finish in the top 3 of the leaderboard, when mw2 came out I was playing BFBC2 which is pretty similar to BF3 and 99.9% I finished in the top 3 aswell.. so please people don't say cod players can't play BF cause that's not true.. the truth is BF AND COD are good games but there is way more campers + snipers in BF then in cod.. in cod you can flank them but if someone is camping in BF on a rooftop you don't have any wings to flank them, we all have fun if we finish with a good score right? and we don't have fun with a bad score, we will hate the game slowly.. so the truth is if you hate cod then your obvviously bad at it.. for my last words.. don't play a game you cant play.
come on from cod 4 you never changed the infinity ward engine!!! its dlc every year for full price! i moved to bf3 and im happy
The problem is many people hate it, how similar it is to every other game in the series, as far as I'm concerned COD4 still had the best map design on the lot.
But then say, MW3 releases, with its new shiny horde mode, everyone buys it and you go on PSN or XBL and look on your friends list, EVERYONE is playing MW3.
whats the better choice? Playing a shooter online on your own, which is still fun, but everyone knows its so much better playing with a group of friends on mics.
Even if that game is COD, doesnt matter, your playing with friends.
Its like facebook, you dont have to get it, but if you dont you end up being "that guy" who doesnt have it.
COD will fade at some point, but it'll be slowly and it'll be overtaken by something like Battlefield, which unfortunately EA looks set to turn into its own yearly release with MOH...
All my nephew plays is call of duty.so I get to see it a lot because I live with him. Its not that I hate it, it just doest look good to me. I dont look at it as something i need to play. But I even I tried a demo ....and preferred killzone and resistance.
Everyone has his/her own tastes and choices. Don't like it, don't like it, don't buy it. And you can always critisize the proper way.
Why rant in the forums, on trailers and gaming sites? It makes you look immature when you are actually feeling mature just because hate mainstream game.
i beat cod mw3 campaign played 30 mins of multiplayer and realized why i didn't buy cod black ops and launch.
http://steamcommunity.com/i...
small maps
people screaming over mic
spawn terrible
hardly no recoil
no vehicles
kill streaks
no scope snipers
lag
small player count
always said i hate when people say they are gamers when all they play is sims 3. i feel the same way about cod.
why do you have ps3?
cod
why do you have xbox 360?
cod
i hate those answers
COD doesn't really have a ton of haters, it has a vocal minority of haters. What I mean is, people that come to sites like this complain about it, but the average gamer that is playing COD all the time, doesn't even bother with online forums.
Also, I've noticed a trend of hipsters that don't like the "cool" games. Or they liked the games before they were popular.
I never bother posting or clicking on a article for a game that I'm not interested in or that I hate. If I hate a game, I'm not going to talk about it or complain like a little spoiled baby about it, I'd be too busy talking about games I do like and actually playing games I like.
The COD haters are attention seekers.
Im sorry but you are terribly wrong on that account sir. If people aren't vocal about things how will the developer know what to change? Even though Actvision has proven that they dont give a fuck what anyone says. Most if not all the people myself included that hate Cod were the ones playing since 4 and have seen it go downhill and a companies greed overshadow the need for CHANGE.
How will developers know what to change?! That gave me a laugh.
If, for Black Ops 2, Treyarch did everything people asked for, a new group (maybe even made up of some of the same people) would complain that things were better before and you'd be left in exactly the same situation.
If you think developers should come to places like N4G to get tips on how to fix their games, you're sorely mistaken. You'd end up with hardcore games that hardly anybody buys and the industry would just crash in on itself.
If Activision listened to all the idiotic haters, we'd have a COD every 5 years, and it'd be built on a new engine with completely new mechanics every single time.
The reason why COD is so popular is because they have a formula that works. 20+ million people buy COD every year, why would any business change what has worked for them and made them ungodly amounts of money?
I think people don't realize that its not totally the same people buying the games over and over and over again, the COD experience is fresh to millions of gamer's each year.
I like that in MW3 it tell people what prestige and level you were on previous COD games, I also found it interesting because I've run into a lot of people who haven't played a COD before, or only played one other before.
The people here at N4G are the serious MINORITY. If they weren't the minority, every PS3 game that was a claimed "Day one buy" would mean they'd all sell millions.
The average gamer doesn't go to places like this at all.
I dont like COD cos it is basically the worst of the games industry all wrapped into one neat little package:
1.) Yearly release with very little changes.
2.) A large number of the people who play it are complete and utter dickheads, and there is nothing done to curb their bullshit.
3.) They charge obscene money for crap like map packs, even when them packs contain old maps.
4.) Little to no innovation from one iteration to the next.
5.) The single player is effectively abandoned during development. MW1 had a great SP, but since then they have been terrible.
6.) Its brand name is all it relies on.
Because its ruining originality in games, every freaking developer wants to be them sales wise. So they change their signature titles and make them for wider audiences like the mindless fps fanbase.
I hate Cod because even though the game is MATURE, there are little 12yo racist pricks every fucking game i play! Cod has become Madden literally barely any changes and most times they are for the worse. I used to love 4 back in the day just go back to that Activision!
I'm against companies releasing the same game annually with no improvements to the engine or any fixes to the lag and hacking.
COD hasn't been good since COD4 and even then I didn't think it was that good.
Many other FPS games do a far better job.
The reason why peoPle hate call of duty is because 1, it's the most sold and talked about game 2, they're all not very good at playing the game and 3, even the so call call of duty haters they all have a copy of the game for if they didnt it wouldn't have sold so much.
I just wish the levels were bigger and the gameplay a little more realistic In the multiplayer but other than that cod is a good game no matter what people say, but I must admit that mw3 was an awful game! Multiplayer at least
It's a game that's conditioning developers to create a game with COD like attributes to succeed. Normally Taking ideas, concepts and functions of 1 game isn't a big deal and could be considered cool or flattery but in COD's case it has been severely over saturated in the industry and thus is stopping the progression of creativity from developers and creating a a wormhole where everything not COD like gets sucked in and is considered gone forever.
I like third person shooting. The problem is that most thirds person shooters are far too linear and have regenerating health and poor a.i. I would like a third person shooter strategic rpg in an open world. Think of Mass Effect but with more depth, controlling only one character and being able to level to 99 and fight bosses leveled in the 90s with no level scaling like FF.
I am currently making a game engine using C++ and DirectX 11 and the above game is what I want to make. It may not have voice acting or wonderful graphics but it will have good combat and gameplay overall. That to me is most important.
I play COD and i agree with the fact that it doesn't take much skill to become good at it(if you compare it to almost any other FPS)Its "FPS for Dummies" essentially. IMO that's why the game is so popular everyone from your occasional gamer to your hardcore gamer can pick up a controller and get fairly good at the game in a small window of time. Graphic and engine wise nothing has changed really since WAW, and they aren't really impressive. BO 2 is using a new engine we'll see how that goes, but im not getting my hopes up. More than likely be your typical everyday COD.
COD has turned into a casual franchise. Some people who buy COD now are teens, pre-teens, people who aren't even informed about anything regarding gaming, etc.
Yeah COD may sell well but I belive there are 3 types of people that buy it!
1:Original die Hard COD fans (respect)
2: Kids under 14 who think its cool to play cos it has guns and their parents dont aprove of it so makes them want to play it more.
3:People between 20-40 who know nothing about games and buy what ever there is advertised at xmas..
If you have been playing games as long as I have you know COD is not a game for you so you dislike it!
Especially when you grow up with reall shooters like Wolfenstine,Goldeneye,Quake,Ha lf Life etc...
COD is made for the masses not for gamers!! Its easy to hate!
I wish all the people that have commented on this would actually read the piece. Thanks to those of you who did, and I really appreciate all your feedback and comments :)
The headline asks a question. Who needs to read the article to give their opinion. Many people hate it because it has become way too arcady and the SP is a throw-in.
I must admit from Call of Duty 4 the series has slowly declined, but I don't think it is as bad as people make the game out to be. I love hopping on and playing with some friends.
Too noob friendly. LMAO.. why isn't everyone a great COD player than?
Haters are jealous. They can't play their BF and enjoy it, without hating the King on the block, which is COD. Only the mature, and real gamers can play COD, and also buy BF, and Halo, and some of the others and enjoy them all.
It's funny to read peoples comments about how the game sucks even though in sells in the millions. It sounds like GT5 then if you ask me. A game people like, and sells millions, but doesn't rate high in review scores against it's competition.
Oh wait.
Unlike GT5 that sells millions, COD also rated higher than it's competition.
So what I take from this, is millions of crybabies out there can buy and like GT5 which is an inferior game to Forza(which has out reviewed it twice already) And COD out reviewed it's competitor BF and sold millions.
SO I guess it's quasi the same.
Ha ha ha... New school kids love to hate what's the best.
Still wondering why majority of COD players suck and have under a 1.0 K/D ratio, if the game is so noob friendly.
yea becaouse Games industry is not one of the most currupt industries out there!?
You think games magazines sites etc dont get paid to rate these games high!
If they didnt market the shit out of COD or anyother game that sells then the game indsutry would be dead.
Open your third eye!
yeah disagree If you belive game industry is not currupt!
In the tabloid papers where I live they do a games section every friday..
Iv never seen a game being talked about as much as COD has.. They call it the best shooter ever etc etc...
Im pretty sure the guy who does these articles has no clue about gaming and probably never played COD..
And If COD is the Mcdonalds of the gaming industry.. Look at the marketing Mcdonalds gets ..They are the official sponsor of the olympics ffs!
That sais alot to me!
I will use my last bubble to say
EXACTLY MY POINT.
Not noob-friendly. It took me about two years to get really, really good at Duty. Putting in the time and energy to learn the strategies, how to counter the opposition, and combat it with intelligence. Being able to know a game that changes like the wind with whoever is online at the moment takes a lot of skill, regardless of what some may say. Sure, it takes nothing to pick up the game and suck or do mediocre. People can say what they want, but ultimately, everyone is a little bit right in this case. Sure the franchise is watered-down, sure it's the same game every year, but people keep buying it, because it's what they want. Thanks for your comment. :)
IS THAT ENOUGH REASONS FOR YOU OP? JESUS F*CK.. These reasons were as valid 5 years ago as they are today.
If every preteen you've ever met can excel at this game, then that alone should answer your stupid flame bait article.
For me personally its not that i hate the game...
I hate games that try to milk gamers by making a game that pretty much the same every year or two.
Examples:
Assassins creed
Call of Duty
I LOVE games that are supported for multiple years, and then after a while you get a REAL sequal that updates graphics and builds upon what made the original great.
Examples:
Twisted Metal
Battlefield 3
Halo (only counting main games in series)
Elder Scrolls Series
Because so many people know a repackaged turd when they see one. The madden-esque model doesnt bode well for a lot of gamers.
Im someone who played all call of duty's, to about 7th prestige.
I enjoyed it mosty cause i was pretty good and got alot of kills
But now im just sick of the game. Its not that i think its a terrible game now. Its still a decent AAA Game.
But Its just the same crap over and over, year after year.
Its like u love french fries, but if u eat it every day for 4 years long, u just get sick of it
Not to mention the crappy maps, also get worse every new cod.
Compared to maps in halo or gears of was, the maps look like its just some random buildings with no competitive gameplay in mind.
The lack of innovation but still get better sales then other better games is what make people hate cod
Something stupid like collecting tags (only new game mode in mw3) is considered innovation at infinty ward.
While its actually just a new game mode that existed since the start of gaming. And is a pretty lame gamemode imo.
Only thing i still enjoy about cod is customizing the weapons and classes. Other than that just zombie mode
I dislike CoD only because most of the people that play it either don't understand or don't care that they are being spoon fed an expansion instead of a whole game each time one comes out.
Because the game is nothing but a mere shadow of the game it once was. As soon as COD hit the consoles with COD2 it was a downward spiral of clone after clone after clone
Long live COD:1 and COD:United Offensive
Because Activision sold out their original fanbase and dumb it down for the masses? Because it is the next WoW? Because the games are designed around shameful cash grab tactics? Because the quality of the franchise is swirling down the toilet at every subsequent installation? Because it is the Justin Bieber of video games?
I don't like real life shooters. I was in the Army and that is as real as it gets for me. I think the game gives people who don't plan on joining the military a chance to play soldier and act like a Patriot and they feel like they are serving their country. I prefer scifi shooters. Every shooter is the same. You start at point A and shoot your way to point B than from point B to C etc.
The game hasn't change since COD 4 everyone who has a ps3/ xbox has played one of the CODS, those who hate have been playing the same system since 2007.
Thats why gamers have been hating on it because they have not change the game to keep it fresh. Thats why in my opinion I believe Bf is better that way, from bad company to now they have really change the system to make it feel like a new game, and made it better.
the last cod I owned was black ops, only because my girlfriend wanted to play, and i got bored of it. Got too easy with them ps3 noobs 30 and 0 score on tdm.
If you can play halo well you can easily play other fps games:D
Treyarch is better and will do a better job at CoD. I played black ops and WaW again yesterday. I realized that the modern warfare series has gone to sh*t. I don't hate CoD. I just hate Activision for changing their business model.
cod mw and mw2 were allright. Im all CoD out. Don't want to see or hear anything about it for a while. It wasnt the same after the creators left.
Like almost every hyperbolic favorite of the internet, hate is an overused word that seriously has lost its meaning when you're applying it to a freaking video game. Hating an inanimate object is stupid.
The intense dislike comes from "gamers" that call other people sheeple, stupid, ignorant...all because they think they are wasting their money on a game they don't like. It has become the calling card of todays gamer: be as negative, condescending and entitled as you can.
Screw'em all I say.
As long as I'm having fun and enjoying my purchase, that's all that matters. These fools don't pay for my games so why give a damn what they think?
its a crap game that gets way too man undeserved sales and praise.
There is also alot of overshadowed games that dont get sequels because of it.
It could either be
1. People hate it cause it's so mainstream
or
2. People are actually tired of the game making success but not innovating and basically having the same engine each game for the past few years with little innovation.
I couldnt give 2 craps about COD. However it ruined the FPS genre because the devs think thats what everyone wants. We now have COD: Resistance , COD:SOCOM , COD:KILLZONE , COD:HALO , ETC. and I know if Timesplitters4 ever comes , it will be COD:Timesplitters
Aim assist
Lack of death penalty (immediate respawn after death)
Everyone for themselfs (no teamwork, no strategy)
To much emphasis on how many kills you get, rather than actually accomplishing a goal.
The game is basically just shooting for the sake of shooting, without any real goals or purpose.
Like others have already said, sit almost any avid COD player infront of a game like battlefield where you can't just run and gun and actually have to work together with other players, and they will rage quit in the first 5mins.
COD is a casual jump in jump out shooter. It has hardly any more depth than a facebook game, just better graphics.
its a GARBAGE franchise that promotes camping through killstreaks... yet sheeple flock to this garbage every year and then complain like CRAZY 5 months later...
Perks make it unbelievably easy to get tons of kills!
Cheapens the game...
Now if the copters, etc.. HAD TO BE player controlled like BF3... we'd really see how bad those players truely are!
COD is a casuals way at feeling good at FPS's in my opinion!
Because every game is the same rehashed crap. If they spread dev time out more, it would be a more well respected series.
My Nephew traded his PS3/K3 for a 360/COD MW2 ....
why? All his 13yr old mates said PS3 & Killzone sucked... Of course, they had neither.
I always remember him saying about K3 "Its too hard....."
I guess im just not a fan of games with laggy, camper-ridden, skill-less multiplayer and sterile, mundane, unoriginal campaigns.
never liked COD.I would love 2 see how long u COD players will last in a killzone 2 match which is a FPS that actually takes skill 2 play and is a far more superior game IMO.
I would like to see how you console gamers survive in red orchestra 2 which is even harder than any FPS on console.
Nah, I like good games...
Haha, I'm kidding I'm kidding, I'll still probably get a ton of disagrees. XD
