Anonymous Responds To Black Ops 2 Trailer, ‘We Are Not Terrorists’

Online hacktivist group which goes by the collective name "Anonymous" responded to a trailer for the upcoming shooter videogame "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" which portrays the organization as the enemy of the United States, with a YouTube video of their own in which they threatened to hack Activision, the entertainment company behind the game, defacing their website and disrupting their online servers.

‘We Are Not Terrorists’

You've proven otherwise over and over and over...

GanjaMan4381d ago

but the biggest "terrorist" of them all is the government!

Dark_Overlord4381d ago

Totally agree, but since they're the ones who make the laws, they can easily make themselves look innocent and justify all the things they do

Dark_Overlord4381d ago

You do realise there is no hierarchy in anonymous? Anyone can use the name and commit whatever acts they feel like, just because someone claims to be from anonymous doesn't necessarily mean they represent the views of other 'members' (and I use that term loosely)

Pintheshadows4381d ago

The older I get the more ridiculous 'anyone can use the name and commit whatever acts they feel like' sounds. So those people are anonymous. You can't say the ones that do good are but the ones that do bad aren't.

Stop painting imaginary noble ideals onto the organisation.

Dark_Overlord4381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

I never said who was good or bad, just you can't hold the whole of anonymous accountable for other peoples actions.

By your logic you're saying that if one person commits an act under a name then the whole organisation/company should be held accountable?

An example would be the recent Luis Suarez/Patrice Evra incident

Pintheshadows4381d ago

By your logic you're saying that if one person commits an act under a name then the whole organisation/company should be held accountable?

Due to the nature of anonymous i'm afraid that is the case. It isn't a business or Liverpool FC. There are no official channels.

SPAM-FRITTER-1234380d ago

there still blaming Guy Fawkes for terrorism after all these years....oh wait its a hipster wearing a mask complaining about his rights and freedom.

Emilio_Estevez4382d ago

I think most consider them 'cyber-terrorists', as would I. I'm not sure how they could think otherwise. Activists don't steal.

TekoIie4382d ago

The definition of terrorism says otherwise:

"The use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes"

I don't think it takes a genius to look at the actions of Anon and the relation they have to terrorism...

fei-hung4382d ago

Since the PSN hack last year, I find it hard to agree with Anon. Realistically Anon should be putting their combined efforts into finding out which individuals profiited from the Iraq war and the overthrowing of Gadaffi. They should be helping Julian Assange by finding facts to help free him. Finding the truth about why Osama was burried as if he was Megatron.

However, if Activision has been dumb enough to play with fire, then we as gamers, them as Activision should not be surprised if they get burnt. Why would you want to risk shit like this knowing what this group is capable of doing?

GoldenGamer4381d ago

"Finding the truth about why Osama was burried as if he was Megatron. "

Made my day +bubbles

TekoIie4381d ago

They have done some good things in the past (well not "good" but the RIGHT things) like with Westborough baptist church but we have to remember 1 simple thing. The group that hacked PSN is not the same group that went after Westborough.

The OPSony group were dumb idiots who didnt even think through what they were trying to accomplish and how they would accomplish their objective. This is also why I believe they've responded to Activision in such a way that proves they are cowardly terrorists. Releasing the CEO's personal info is too far...

kassler4382d ago

Ask any terrorist if they are terrorists and they will say: no, we are freedom fighters.

Xbox $70 billion bet paid out

fr0sty268d ago

Guess that's what happens when there's no good new games to play...

4Sh0w268d ago (Edited 268d ago )

Well regardless of exclusives, or whatever else there is to play on Xbox or ps, CoD has has still been the top selling game on ps platform since forever also.....so no surprise that the most popular game franchise on any console could easily have a revival due to servers coming back online...this is just credit to xbox backwards compatibility & thats good thing for Xbox gamers.

wiz7191268d ago

@Frosty orrrr maybe it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to go back to the peak of the series .. and it’s beem great lol

mkis007268d ago

It's going to take 10 years for xbox to generate that much profit...

Rhythmattic267d ago

Why worry when they have OS, Server and Background Data in their hands...
Gaming is just the small piece, at the top left in a few K piece jigsaw.

EasilyTheBest267d ago

If you buy a house with cash for 1 million dollars you still own the house. Microsoft don't need to make the money back.

Rhythmattic265d ago

But its not money back, its about how it goes missing.

jznrpg268d ago

Shooters is what Xbox people play most of the time and that’s about it by the numbers and sales of games.

shinoff2183268d ago

Atkeast older gamers nostalgia is good. Jeez.

Jin_Sakai268d ago

Mostly because the new CoD games are garbage. The old games were much better.

Rutaprkl267d ago

Agree 100%. Cod 4, WaW, Black ops 1 & 2, those were the days.

Rhythmattic267d ago

For MP, Unreal tournament , QIII Arena (loved the UT mod) FTW!

RaidenBlack267d ago

Unreal Tournament and Quake III were simply amazing ... CoD's and CoD-likes' rise killed the arena shooter popularity ...
Unreal Tournament 2004 is my favorite in the series.
Didn't enjoy Unreal Tournament III, Quake Champions that much.
Too bad Epic cancelled Unreal Tournament 2014 becoz of Fortnite

Rhythmattic267d ago (Edited 267d ago )

I got hooked on the QIII Urban Terror mod (and my work colleagues I introduced them to)... LAN Sessions at the closing of the doors at work, into the night , sinking beers and eating pizza..... Good times.

thesoftware730268d ago

Wow, good games never get old I guess.

CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.

CrimsonWing69268d ago

Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.

1Victor267d ago

@crimson:” Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.”
I agree it’s worthy at the start of the generation when there’s few new generation games but halfway through the generation it’s not a feature.
Now it’s good that this game is finding a renewed life for its fan but it shows a mayor flaw in new games release when a close decade old game is toppling the charts

CrimsonWing69267d ago

I don't know if I understand what you mean. It's a feature regardless of the time into the generation.

Let's take Armored Core 6 for example. Let's say I'm interested in checking out the previous Armored Core games, sure would be nice if I could play them on my current-gen console.

We're about 3 years into current-gen and old games are hitting in the top 5 for sales charts in the month.

I do get where you're coming from with older games possibly being better than the newer games, but the feature stays the feature. I can only speak for myself, but when there's a lull in game releases or nothing great is out, I like to go back to old titles. It's just nice to not have to have a bunch of consoles out to do so.

I think moving forward it'll be less and less of an issue as like with the PS5 you can access most all of the PS4 games, but I like going back to PS1 and PS2. Would be awesome to kind of make backwards compatibility a prioritized feature moving forward. Hell, Sony was the first to implement it.
