Those Norwegian Film Institute guys and gals have signed a cheque to the tune of 1.4 million NOK so an indie studio can keep on developing Oliver & Spike: Dimension Jumpers.
They describe it as a "very ambitious project," that's powered by the Unity engine. Overall they now have 2.5m NOK to build the game. What's it like? "Think Uncharted, meets Zelda..."
NE: "The retro 2D platformer had all but died. As new hardware arose, the gaming industry boldly strove forward to conquer new frontiers, and as the possibilities for better visuals, better sound, and revolutionary new gameplay increased, the gaming industry left behind that which had been its crutch during the early generations."
3D platformers, yeah - but not the collection based types of the N64. The recent ones have been increasingly linear.
