Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: How will THIS logic-defying plot point be explained?

***COD Black OPS Spoilers Below**

Gamesradar- "One of the biggest surprises of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal trailer was the appearance of Sergeant Frank Woods as an old man in the year 2025. It was a surprise because I was pretty sure I remembered him getting blown to bits at the end of the first Black Ops.

So I checked and - yeah - pretty much he gets blown to bits. Although the whole gory mess of Frank Woods getting blown to bits actually happens off-screen. Regardless, I still can't see how Woods could have possibly survived."

The whole thing about Black Ops is pretty much woods was delusional thinking there was another when it was him the whole time. My reason for how woods survived is that, the story we play in BO1 is actually being told to us (by future Woods) rather then what really happened. He's telling us the story that was written "officially". I think in BO2 we'll end up replaying that mission to see what really happened to woods.

Or, I don't exactly remember everything but the guy who was interrogating woods was the guy who lived at the end correct? Well maybe perhaps that guy was actually Woods, and the guy you saw was really in the chair. All the electric treatment and such maybe was a way to brainwash him into thinking he was Woods.

TheFinalEpisode4397d ago (Edited 4397d ago )

I think you got Woods confused with Mason(the guy trapped in chair the whole game)I could be wrong BO's story was forgettable to begin with and the ending was confusing

Nitrowolf24397d ago

ah then yes I do and yes the story was. Call of duty stories and characters aren't that memorable TBH.

antz11044396d ago

I really liked the first one with it being slightly retro. This looks like COD Future OPs Soldier.....with 80's flashbacks. Not instilling alot of faith in this branch of the series.

Hufandpuf4397d ago

Woods died for sure, but then Mason confused Reznov for Woods even though they both weren't there at the time. It's confusing.

CIA Agent high as f*ck, talking to deads and sh*t

CarlosX3604397d ago

I think that's the most rational explaination for the ending. I mean, he WAS brainwashed.

So, therefore: Whoever's in the Wheelchair is Mason, and the son is actually Mason.

erasure2424397d ago

The guy in the wheelchair IS Frank Woods... Not Mason... The tattoos... the face... and the obvious proof is the "2025 - Frank Woods" wording in the intro...

Now the guy looking at the digital arm band is "Mason"... most likely Mason's son...

Also, there is a guy that resembles Frank Woods in the trailer (2025 footage).. the dude with spiky hair and tattoos... One has to wonder if that is Franks Woods son...

CarlosX3604396d ago

erasure242, I see that it says "Frank Woods" in the opening intro... but then brainwashing changes everything, along with Jason Bourne-style identity swap.

I have a feeling the game will do something similar to what happened to Mr. Bourne.

Bagogames4397d ago

Doesn't anyone want to hazard a guess about how he not only survived a grenade blast to the chops but is also still around, albeit bound to a chair, nearly ONE HUNDRED YEARS after the events of Black Ops? (1968 > 2055?)

If this is some sort of adverse effect of gunpowder then I'm going to start cooking grenades for breakfast.

ZoyosJD4397d ago (Edited 4397d ago )

LOL...i don't advise that.

But your second date is off 20 years...its 2025...making a grand total of 57 years (if your first date is correct). He should be 75-80 years old.

matt19914397d ago

its in 2025. there for if woods was 30 he would be 87.

R8344396d ago

According to Call of Duty Wiki he was born in 1930, so in 2025 he'd be 95!

Bagogames4396d ago

I'm going to kill my colleague for feeding me the wrong date...

But still, with all else said, getting to 95 for a guy of his lifestyle isn't exactly normal. I smell shenanigans afoot.

snake_eater4397d ago

Actually he was born in 1930, now do the math...

erasure2424397d ago

Frank Woods was the best character IMO in Black Ops... I don't care what happened off-screen in terms of him dying... I am just glad he is back... even at 95 years old... That just shows how badass the dude is even at 95... He would still probably try to get out there and kick some serious ass even in a wheelchair...

Xbox $70 billion bet paid out

fr0sty276d ago

Guess that's what happens when there's no good new games to play...

4Sh0w276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

Well regardless of exclusives, or whatever else there is to play on Xbox or ps, CoD has has still been the top selling game on ps platform since forever also.....so no surprise that the most popular game franchise on any console could easily have a revival due to servers coming back online...this is just credit to xbox backwards compatibility & thats good thing for Xbox gamers.

wiz7191276d ago

@Frosty orrrr maybe it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to go back to the peak of the series .. and it’s beem great lol

mkis007276d ago

It's going to take 10 years for xbox to generate that much profit...

Rhythmattic276d ago

Why worry when they have OS, Server and Background Data in their hands...
Gaming is just the small piece, at the top left in a few K piece jigsaw.

EasilyTheBest276d ago

If you buy a house with cash for 1 million dollars you still own the house. Microsoft don't need to make the money back.

Rhythmattic274d ago

But its not money back, its about how it goes missing.

jznrpg276d ago

Shooters is what Xbox people play most of the time and that’s about it by the numbers and sales of games.

shinoff2183277d ago

Atkeast older gamers nostalgia is good. Jeez.

Jin_Sakai277d ago

Mostly because the new CoD games are garbage. The old games were much better.

Rutaprkl276d ago

Agree 100%. Cod 4, WaW, Black ops 1 & 2, those were the days.

Rhythmattic276d ago

For MP, Unreal tournament , QIII Arena (loved the UT mod) FTW!

RaidenBlack276d ago

Unreal Tournament and Quake III were simply amazing ... CoD's and CoD-likes' rise killed the arena shooter popularity ...
Unreal Tournament 2004 is my favorite in the series.
Didn't enjoy Unreal Tournament III, Quake Champions that much.
Too bad Epic cancelled Unreal Tournament 2014 becoz of Fortnite

Rhythmattic275d ago (Edited 275d ago )

I got hooked on the QIII Urban Terror mod (and my work colleagues I introduced them to)... LAN Sessions at the closing of the doors at work, into the night , sinking beers and eating pizza..... Good times.

thesoftware730276d ago

Wow, good games never get old I guess.

CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.

CrimsonWing69276d ago

Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.

1Victor276d ago

@crimson:” Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.”
I agree it’s worthy at the start of the generation when there’s few new generation games but halfway through the generation it’s not a feature.
Now it’s good that this game is finding a renewed life for its fan but it shows a mayor flaw in new games release when a close decade old game is toppling the charts

CrimsonWing69275d ago

I don't know if I understand what you mean. It's a feature regardless of the time into the generation.

Let's take Armored Core 6 for example. Let's say I'm interested in checking out the previous Armored Core games, sure would be nice if I could play them on my current-gen console.

We're about 3 years into current-gen and old games are hitting in the top 5 for sales charts in the month.

I do get where you're coming from with older games possibly being better than the newer games, but the feature stays the feature. I can only speak for myself, but when there's a lull in game releases or nothing great is out, I like to go back to old titles. It's just nice to not have to have a bunch of consoles out to do so.

I think moving forward it'll be less and less of an issue as like with the PS5 you can access most all of the PS4 games, but I like going back to PS1 and PS2. Would be awesome to kind of make backwards compatibility a prioritized feature moving forward. Hell, Sony was the first to implement it.
