Sony Gearing Up for A Triumphant E3 2012 Showing?

GamerFitNation: E3 is considered the SuperBowl of the gaming industry and it is a mere 5 weeks away and with the recent announcement of God of War: Ascension coming to the PS3, gamers have been clamoring for more information about the title and what we can expect to see from it. Well, the best place that one would think that we would see more is E3. E3 is perfect place to highlight the best videogames for what some gamers call the best company. Sony has always had the habit of announcing exclusive titles before the event. This is the case with them announcing a New God of War and PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale on GameTrailers. What is left for them to announce? Well, let us examine what we know, have heard, and can expect.

Some people just aren't keen on handheld gaming really. I myself used to have a PSP and a DSLite and they both had some great games that I enjoyed playing, but mainly gathered dust since I simply never felt in the mood to play on a handheld really. It's a shame because if they took the games from these systems and released them as downloadable titles on home consoles (be it PSN or WiiWare) I'm sure they'd see a lot of sales to people who are interested in the software but simply don't like the hardware. Besides, the types of games made for handheld systems are really suited to being downloadable releases I think. That's just me though!

I think when it comes to E3, that one time a year where it's the biggest time to show off new games/hardware/gaming goodies....the main focus should be the consoles.

Couldn't disagree more. Sony has already expanded beyond the home theater shelf with PSP and VITA. When taking in consideration the millions that own or want the incentive to own Sony's newest handheld, addressing those fans is not a 'waste of the show'. In fact, it is essential that Sony, less they face the wrath of a HUGE portion of their gaming audience.

The time spent between face time for PS3 and VITA should be 50/50. And in between that, there should be a venn diagram cross over where cloud transferring (i.e. "tranfarring") between handhedl and console and other connectivity that allows PSVITA to act as a controller for PS3 games hits the stage.

Everyone knows where Sony will make the bulk of its profits right now. And it is the console. But, if Sony wants to truly make the world happy, addressing the VITA is key.

You guys just need to take a handheld in your hand and just caress it, rest it on your pillow, go to sleep with it, than you will know just how special handhelds are.

Seriously though, there are experiences catered to handhelds that people just don't get and that is mainly a product of not finding the right game to suit the player.

For me, playing Golden Sun on GBA and a few JRPG's on PSP really sucked me in (which explains whe I now own a VITA).

p.s. Whoever said they get headaches from looking at smaller screens, there is something either wrong with you or you spend multiple days just looking at display(s). Either way, what you are describing is not medically normal.

I totally understand where Jujubee88 is coming from. As a happy Vita owner I want every game on this little joy of handheld. It is my favorite hardware wise since the GBA. When the GBA came I knew that it could handle any 2d 16-32 bit game from previous era with no fuss. Vita does the same for 3d games with all the control inputs. I hope that it gets support though I think that the Vita phone will be at E3 2013. Anyway... Sony have Guerilla games, Quantic dreams, Sucker Punch and most importantly the silent Media Molecule who could steal the show with something new. The thing is Sony is realizing that they have to do things on their own now. They cannot rely on third party anymore. Soul Sacrifice will be the answer to Monster Hunter for sure. If it takes off it is Capcom's fault for not seizing the opportunity because the game will probably have online play and have some Demon Souls sensibility with Monster Hunter like mini games. Sony just has to take their time. Do not rush the PS4 either just strengthen and add to the IP roster with stellar titles. Sucess will come with great games and great games only.

What they need to show if they are showing PS4 is full permanent PS3 Backwards compatibility on the PS4.

They are aiming for some really solid releases right at 2012/2013 with PS4 to come in 2013 or so. It would suck to buy new PS3 game and swap to PS4 and miss out on playing that new game. BC is almost essential for Sony to be successful this time.

I do believe both Sony and Microsoft will announce PS4 and Xbox 3 officially at E3 this year even if its nothing more than yes its coming in 2013/2014 or something like that. Likely with at least one or two Next gen teasers. KILLZONE 4? Uncharted 4?

Sony always amazes me at E3, they still have a number of series they can revive on PS3 such as Syphon Filter. I cant wait to see what they have for Vita, they have so many options with Vita not for just the system itself but for the PS3.
Vita compatability for games such as GTA 5, DUST 514 and COD. Black ops 2 will be shown and they can reveal a Vita version that stacks with PS3 version.

The whole "winning" at E3 is something best left for those who enjoy bragging. I prefer just to say things how they are. Some companies perform well with all things considered, and some leave with an embarrassing trail behind them by comparison. So ultimately, some perform better than others, but it's not a competition.

From the criteria that GraveLord gave, Sony will have a great E3. The Last of Us demo will blow minds. God of War: Ascension will also impress (although that's being debuted tomorrow). PSAS:BR will make a lot of people happy, with more character reveals and a hands-on demo. I'm pretty sure LBP Karting will be there with hands-on availability too, so that will be exciting. And I'm sure Quantic Dream will announce their new project too, along with a possible new game announcement from Guerrilla Games.

FF vs 13 is Square's responsibility. Agent is Rockstar's responsibility. The Last Guardian is Sony's responsibility and we know what the score is with that.

Irrelevant. When Sony presents games at E3, Sony tends to reveal some really major stuff like AGENT, like The Last Guardian, like Gran Turismo 5, like God of War 3, and FF versus 13. Now, doubtless, some of these games (FFv13) are not directly presented by Sony, but nevertheless, on this site, the reveals of those games are still credited as a feather in Sony's cap because they are exclusive to the PS3.

What I'm saying is, is that it's difficult to say that Sony "wins" E3s because they reveal major titles that takes years and years to release.

In hindsight, I wouldn't say Sony won E3. And yes, I don't think any company really "wins" E3, although I'm sure that after E3 wraps up, IGN will have an article up titled, "So...Who Won E3?" and it will heat up and cause lots of pointless debate.

The point is, don't count your chickens until they've hatched. I criticized lots of people on this site for making lists of upcoming games in order to argue that they have more games to play or that they have a better console.

How can you tell someone, "Haha, I have Gran Turismo 5 to look forward to" and then happily sit on your ass for five years and think you've won an argument. You're not the playing the game during that five year wait. You're just... waiting, and still being annoying on N4G.

And that goes for AGENT, as well. When it was announced that Rockstar was making a game exclusive to PS3 to "take advantage of the system's capabilities," the tumultuous uproar of smug approval was nearly palpable. How many times did AGENT make the list during those debates? And still, the game isn't out.

So, Sony doesn't win. Neither does Microsoft, nor Nintendo. You kids just play your little loyalist games. I've been called a PS3 fanboy by the Microsoft fans, a 360 fanboy by the PS3 fans, and a PC elitist by both. At some point you guys have to step back and acknowledge that I'm not a loyalist of any of those companies/brands because I've been critical of all of them. But your attention spans are short and I don't encourage you guys to spend to much time researching my post history.

Kaveti6616 pretty much nailed it with Sony taking ages to release announced games, while the fanboys keep putting these games in their GOTY list every year. But I should probably blame myself more than everyone else for jumping on the hype train.

The funny story is that I myself originally purchased my PS3 after being hyped about Rockstar and Team Ico releasing exclusive games to the PS3. Those are the only games I originally cared for thanks to how much I loved their games in past generations. I guess I'm still waiting (luckily some other developers managed to deliver good games in the meantime).

It's even funnier that I originally purchased my Xbox 360 for Halo and Mass Effect - once again because of my past experience with Bungie and Bioware as developers of the best games in the past gen. But guess what happened since then? Both Bungie and Bioware took the multiplatform route at some point.

I guess that at least they delivered the exclusives games they promised on time and that made the console purchase worthwhile, something which I still can't say about Agent or The Last Guardian. But the moral of the story is that games get delayed and alliances break and form, so one should probably not make their purchasing decision based on future TBD lists and speculations but rather on the actual content already available.

Vita is a good system but it's failing for the same reason 3ds failed for the first 6 months,not many people want to pay 250 for a handheld idc if your handheld has the power of a pc (because you can buy a laptop for 199)

my biggest problem in the past couple of E3s from Sony has been that most games get leaked or announced before E3, so that takes away the surprise factor thats very important for a succesfull E3. I dont only want to see gameplay of games we already know they exist.

LOL. Sorry but Sony isnt gonna win e3 by showing off Mario Kart ..I mean LBP Kart and Sony Smash Bros demos. Since when did cloning make you a winner? If it wants to win, it needs announcements and surprises DURING the conference, just like everyone else. Besides, its all game preference, Animal Crossing 3ds gameplay is equal to Halo 4 gameplay. You dont get points because "i like fps better so MS wins", they both have been announced already so both will receive equal points (up to +2).

Sony smash bros = +1 points if they show off more footage, only 1 point due to clone.

If Killzone4 is shown = +3 points for being a kinda-surprise but since its the 3rd this generation, only 3 points.

I honestly am not expecting too much more from Sony on PS3 at E3 in the way of big "new" announcements. I fully expect the Vita to be the dominant hardware at the show for Sony with call of duty being their big show piece. The Last of Us will also be big at E3 and playable..while its not a new announcement it will be their PS3 showcase game.

They have already unveiled two exclusive titles with All Stars and GOW: Ascension. Sly Cooper will be there again hopefully... but who knows what's next? I can't wait!

Sony always impresses in E3 and always either has the best showing or is in top contention. As someone mentioned above they show actually game play of quality titles while they control it during the show. Other competition usually shows videos of controlled gaming environments and actors lol and mocked up videos of game play. Sony as usual will show great game play and have one or two surprises which is enough for me.

As for them focusing alot on Vita why not? More than a million ppl own this great handheld and i am a proud owner. They better show some good vita stuff and surprises and my wallet is ready to buy them all.
