what??? if anything this generation has seen an increase in the number of fighting titles, all types of it. And most of them never force you on a casual playstyle either....

Hicken4396d ago

I'm inclined to say this author doesn't really know what he's talking about. For example, he brings up MKvsDC but fails to mention the latest MK at all, as if it doesn't even exist.

There's no mention of smaller titles like Battle Fantasia or the recently released SkullGirls, and while he mentioned BlazBlue, he complained about two characters not being balanced when they've been balanced for quite some time(and instead of mentioning the ones that were really trouble, like Jin and his Ice Car spam, he mentions ones that were middle of the road, in my experience).

He spends most of the article complaining about Capcom- which I can understand to a degree- but it seems like his knowledge or experience outside of their franchises is very limited; no references to Tekken, Virtua Fighter, or others.

I find it hard to call this any sort of comprehensive, reliable opinion when the author makes so many claims and yet provides so little evidence to back them up.

Capcom really let me down this gen, I keep going back to the their old fighting games not the new ones.

well puting aside crappy bussiness practices, the games themselves are good. Just incomplete....

Dannycr4396d ago

Exactly. Regardless of DLC and all, the gameplay is the same and the game is good in SSF4:AE, UMVC3, MK. It's the classic fighting gameplay

Lucretia4396d ago

article is fail. Soul Cal, blazblue and well almost every fighter this year laughs in its face. (and im speaking core fighting experience not content etc)

crap like smash bros that has no depth will never take over classic fighting games.

Dannycr4396d ago

If you think Smash bros has no depth, you clearly haven't play Smash and/or don't know how to play it properly.

Lucretia4396d ago

um Smash bros has very little depth buddy. I have played it Melee, its fun, there is alot that can affect the fight, but take off the random items and try to look for depth. there is no move list, not many mechanics, the game is a party fighter, ofcourse its not in depth.

and for the record i am good at it, Marth, Shiek, and sonic are my characters. theres no depth its just fun

My favorite is always going to be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I know some people didn't like the addition of the run button. But, man that game is burned into my memory from childhood, lol.

Relientk77185d ago

That's the one I played the most as a kid. Fun times gaming on my Sega Genesis, the memories

Deception, MK2, MK9, MKX ..rest.

Kakashi Hatake185d ago

MK2 will always be the best in the series. Been playing a lot of MK1 lately though. Definitely enjoying it more than any other NRS era MK game.

Tankbusta40185d ago

1 and 2 were cultural phenomenon's.

I will always have a special place in my memory for MK 1 and 2. You had to be there during that era at the arcades. Martial arts tournament fighting movies were still popular, and MK 1 was exciting. Real life motion captured characters done well (unlike Pit Fighter). A cast of characters we all liked like Bruce Lee(Lui Kang), Van Damme(Johnny Cage), the Lightning god(Raiden) from Big Trouble in Little China, and Ninjas, gotta have Ninjas. Goro was menacing as hell. The MK arcade had some of the best speakers similar to Killer Instinct as you could hear the loud crisp and bassy sound that was distinctly different than other arcades. MK 2 improved greatly on the controls and fighting mechanics
