Ridge Racer Unbounded (Xbox 360) Review By Canadian Online Gamers

Canadian Online Gamers - "When it comes to racing games, I have nowhere near the experience some of the other ‘gear-heads’ we have on staff or in our community. This being said, I still have a passion for racing games that extends well past the days of Ubisoft’s Speed Devils Racing on the Sega Dreamcast. With the exception of Forza, I have always preferred to play arcade style racing games as opposed to the simulation racers, so when Ridge Racer Unbounded arrived at my home office my interest piqued as it had been awhile since I gave one of those over-the-top racers a spin. So how does it play? Well not too shabby; however, after some extended playtime I cannot help but think to myself that there are some better arcade racers already on the market that feature plenty of destruction and chaos much like Unbounded does."

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 – DSR Enabled

FanBolt writes: "I recently got my hands on the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 and have immediately fallen in love with the quality of this card. But the feature I’ve enjoyed playing around with the most is the new DSR setting."

Is dSr only on the 900 series gpu?

Vegamyster3483d ago

I believe it's availible for the either the 400 or 500 series onward.

2pacalypsenow3483d ago

I have a 780 how do I enable it?

Vegamyster3483d ago

@2pacalypsenow

It should be a setting in your GeForce Experience panel.

Go into the Nvidia control panel under Manage 3D Settings and on the global settings tab a little ways down you will find the "DSR-Factors" and "DSR-Smoothness" settings. These settings dictate the rendering resolution that is downsampled from and the sharpness/blurriness of the gaussian filter that is applied during the downsampling.

I think it is a really amazing feature. It's easy to use and it works very well. It's like having SSAA as an option in basically every game, even DirectX 11 and deferred rendering-based games. It's not exactly the same thing, but it really helps to clean up the image quality.

cool feature

DSR was just added to the 6xx and 7xx cards through drivers.

In the GeForce Experience click the game, then below the options showing what you have vs optimized, there is a wrench, click it.

Then on the top left is a resolution option, click that and on the drop down menu, scroll up to the the top to see DSR scaling.

The only issue with it is when used in some games the HUD doesnt move.
But Im sure game updates might solve that :)

Cant wait to use it on assassins creed in a few weeks

I've tried it on my 760 & in all honesty it's not making any noticeable difference so I've switched it off & not bothering with it any more.

I game at 1080p as its the highest my monitor will go. I Used this DSR to play a few games at 4k but all it really did was decrease input sensitivity. After a good few retries & several close up inspections it does improve it but the difference is minute going on microscopic. At least on a 22" screen anyway, I would image it would be more noticeable on a bigger screen.

Pandamobile3482d ago

The biggest area of improvement will be in the edge-quality and filtering textures and alpha'd models. Look at the Crysis screenshots and pay attention to the foliage.

DougLord3482d ago

I see very little difference between the 1080p and the downsampled 4k. Frankly I can't tell much of a difference between my 1080p and my 1280p monitor, except for one being given 21" and the other being 30". Resolution past 1080p is the least important part of graphics. I think it's really about HDR, high def textures, number of polygons in a model, number of objects on screen, physics ..... We need to start putting increased horsepower to use improving gameplay. More enemies on screen, fully destructible environments, massive open world's, human like AI. The good news is a lot of this can be done server side. AI, massive persistent world's a and per the Crackdown demo, massive destructible environments. Wonder when we will get a mmo that looks like Crysis 3, has human fee liking AI like for a 5, destructible environments like Battlefield and particle/object physics like Crackdown. Also need to get rid of the redundant fetch quests and kill 20 spiders and replace with a great plot/story like BORDERLANDS or Balders Gate.

I should have done more examples putting them side by side like this: http://www.fanbolt.com/?att...
