Assassin's Creed 3: why Connor isn't out to bash the British

"When Ubisoft announced the game, some British players feared a spate of classic Hollywood jingoism was in store. The Assassin's Creed 3 cover art certainly reinforces that impression: it shows Connor clamping one hand around a fallen redcoat's throat, a continental Stars and Stripes billowing in the background. But Connor's no Limey-basher."

I actually hope the Americans are the bad guys or at least I hope there are a few bad apples in the bunch.

Emilio_Estevez4421d ago

They've already said he is neutral so expect him to go after both sides. His war is separate from theirs.

SOD_Delta4421d ago

Cool beans man, Thanks for the info. I haven't been reading much about this game.

coolbeans4421d ago

Basically this.

There's no reason for Ubi not to dive into an honest portrayal of both sides during this time period either.

VanillaBear4421d ago (Edited 4421d ago )

Well yeah thats what they've said but everything we've seen so far.....pictures, box art, short teaser trailer is Connor beating the crap out of red coats.....not one american in sight.

It goes against basicaly everything they said about the templars and America being the central base for them in the past AC games if they decide to make the redcoats more of the enemy then the Americans.

This would of been a perfect chance to show the downfall of the Assassins if they were the redcoats and the rise of the Templars (Americans)...how they come to nearly wiping out the Assassins and how they take control of most of the world due to their rise to power because of multi million corporations (
Abstergo Industries).

I'm hope they aren't doing it because they don't want to offend Americans by making them the bad guys, I mean whats worse for them p*ssing off British people (small country) or everyone in America (HUGE PLACE)

limewax4421d ago

I'm glad, As a Brit I have no problem playing as an american in 95% of games, but if the aim is to kill the brits who are the source of all evil it would certainly seem a bit odd to me.

If the assassin is neutral then I see no problem, and it leaves room for the war to be displayed in a better context rather than picking a side to support from the get go

MAJ0R4421d ago

I have a feeling that they may tie in both sides and allow you to chose like in Skyrim. But if they didn't, than who cares if Britain is the enemy since that would be an accurate portrayal of history. I would want America to be the enemy if it tied into the story correctly as well (with regard to the templars).

I personally have a theory that the Templars are on both sides and feading information to eachother to figure out who they really support and try to "use" this newly discovered land and its inhabitants and brainwash them to make America into a "Templar Funpark".

"When Ubisoft announced the game, some British players feared a spate of classic Hollywood jingoism was in store"

By which it means English. The only thing us Scottish and the Welsh have to fear is being lumped in with the English stereotypes.

c1oudy4421d ago

I know what you mean, i'm English and its annoying just getting lumped in with the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish culturally, with just an all including British label. We're all pretty much too different to be all lumped in together when culture is involved.

deep_fried_bum_cake4421d ago (Edited 4421d ago )

I know, you'll enjoy tea and crumpets in your castle, whereas I spend my day clad in a kilt and tossing a caber. Quite different.

dirigiblebill4421d ago

There were Scottish and Welsh troops in colonial America too. One of the new AC3 enemy types is an axe-wielding Scotsman.

Ness-Psi4420d ago

Don't worry you get to kill plenty of sweaty socks and leeks as well, not just the tea and crumpets.

Ness-Psi4420d ago

I'm sure you will meet people on both sides who are good and bad. I reckon at the start it will have you fighting red coats then they will flip it half way when you realize the main templars are on americas side and go after them. Or something to that tune. Either way the game is gonna be excellent.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

How did redfall not make the cut.

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

Killer2020UK291d ago

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

Rimeskeem290d ago

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

mastershredder290d ago (Edited 290d ago )

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

raiden_188290d ago

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

RPGer290d ago

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.

'Assassin’s Creed III': Ten Years Later

With the recent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the promise that the series will return to its roots, there hasn’t been a better time to get stuck into Assassin’s Creed’s back catalog, whether it’s replaying an old favorite or getting lost in previously looked-over classic.

Ten years later, we miss the old you, Assassin's Creed.

Popsicle565d ago (Edited 565d ago )

I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.

On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
