Frostmagazine: Ridge Racer Unbounded Review

Junior Smart of Frost Magazine writes 'Why oh why would you give away a game with so much history and so much of a following and allow it to be utterly ruined? It is the equivalent of having a million pound winning lottery ticket and giving it away to an alcoholic.'

Yeah it's really lucky cause frostmagazine is the last word on Ridge Racer Unbound. Mean while the average score for this title is 7/10. Guess most reviewers think frostmagazine is BSC.

This is proof positive having webspace does NOT a critic make. I myself am disappointed with the direction Namco has taken this franchise with unbound but it is FAR north of a 2/10. But why am I wasting my time with such a meaningless review from an equally meaningless site and author. <- Couldn't help but roll my eyes and chuckle a bit calling this guy an author.

10 articles in 1 1/2 years from frostmagazine.
That's 10 articles too many.

souldsister let me be even more brutally honest with you. I had zero smugness on my face when I wrote what I wrote. Instead it was more of disgust that low level shit is allowed to be posted on N4G as if it matters in the world of gaming. This review was rancid and written by a child with no business writing anything pertaining to the gaming industry.

Since this lame review was posted by gameswriter I have seen 9 more reviews posted on Ridge Racer Unbound and every single one of the was rated an 8 or higher proven what I wrote to be completely on point. This site knows nothing and if anyone was smug here deary it was gameswriter.

Sorry I offended one of your friends so much in fact that you had to create an account just to act out like the child that wrote this drivel. Which more than likely you are the child yourself pretending to be something you're not. Seems you do that a lot in life.

Do us all a favor and turn this low level nonsense you call a site off and go back to learning about video games before trying to report on them. Now seriously, go crawl back under your rock.

BTW your description of RRU and how they implemented some of it's features only further enforces my opinion that you know very little about gaming and severely lack experience. You are trying to defend a ridiculous score with even more ridiculous means. Seriously, stop, just stop.

I'm not going to waste my time arguing semantics with someone that knows so little about gaming. The game is what it is, an arcade racer, and it does a pretty decent job of it. WAY NORTH of a 2 (=abysmal) out of 10. <- That is a waste of space coming from a person looking for attention while ranting and raging and not a gamer trying to give an honest assessment of a product but by a person trying to ride their agenda across the finish line.

Oh and BTW (once again), I could care less about your gender. Further enforcing your level of maturity which is pretty low. You need not try and validate your drivel while creating an account just to further drive my point home. This site has no business submitting articles to sites like this. CIAO.

it plays like split/second / burnout no way is this game a 2/10.

i would give it a 6/7 out of 10

It's the best Ridge Racer game in a while. I'd give it a solid 7.5

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 – DSR Enabled

FanBolt writes: "I recently got my hands on the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 and have immediately fallen in love with the quality of this card. But the feature I’ve enjoyed playing around with the most is the new DSR setting."

2pacalypsenow3470d ago (Edited 3470d ago )

Is dSr only on the 900 series gpu?

Vegamyster3470d ago

I believe it's availible for the either the 400 or 500 series onward.

2pacalypsenow3470d ago

I have a 780 how do I enable it?

Vegamyster3470d ago

@2pacalypsenow

It should be a setting in your GeForce Experience panel.

Go into the Nvidia control panel under Manage 3D Settings and on the global settings tab a little ways down you will find the "DSR-Factors" and "DSR-Smoothness" settings. These settings dictate the rendering resolution that is downsampled from and the sharpness/blurriness of the gaussian filter that is applied during the downsampling.

I think it is a really amazing feature. It's easy to use and it works very well. It's like having SSAA as an option in basically every game, even DirectX 11 and deferred rendering-based games. It's not exactly the same thing, but it really helps to clean up the image quality.

cool feature

NovusTerminus3470d ago (Edited 3470d ago )

DSR was just added to the 6xx and 7xx cards through drivers.

In the GeForce Experience click the game, then below the options showing what you have vs optimized, there is a wrench, click it.

Then on the top left is a resolution option, click that and on the drop down menu, scroll up to the the top to see DSR scaling.

The only issue with it is when used in some games the HUD doesnt move.
But Im sure game updates might solve that :)

Cant wait to use it on assassins creed in a few weeks

I've tried it on my 760 & in all honesty it's not making any noticeable difference so I've switched it off & not bothering with it any more.

I game at 1080p as its the highest my monitor will go. I Used this DSR to play a few games at 4k but all it really did was decrease input sensitivity. After a good few retries & several close up inspections it does improve it but the difference is minute going on microscopic. At least on a 22" screen anyway, I would image it would be more noticeable on a bigger screen.

Pandamobile3470d ago

The biggest area of improvement will be in the edge-quality and filtering textures and alpha'd models. Look at the Crysis screenshots and pay attention to the foliage.

DougLord3470d ago

I see very little difference between the 1080p and the downsampled 4k. Frankly I can't tell much of a difference between my 1080p and my 1280p monitor, except for one being given 21" and the other being 30". Resolution past 1080p is the least important part of graphics. I think it's really about HDR, high def textures, number of polygons in a model, number of objects on screen, physics ..... We need to start putting increased horsepower to use improving gameplay. More enemies on screen, fully destructible environments, massive open world's, human like AI. The good news is a lot of this can be done server side. AI, massive persistent world's a and per the Crackdown demo, massive destructible environments. Wonder when we will get a mmo that looks like Crysis 3, has human fee liking AI like for a 5, destructible environments like Battlefield and particle/object physics like Crackdown. Also need to get rid of the redundant fetch quests and kill 20 spiders and replace with a great plot/story like BORDERLANDS or Balders Gate.

I should have done more examples putting them side by side like this: http://www.fanbolt.com/?att...
