Digital versions of games are becoming far more common every day. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all have their own online stores where you can buy some of their older classics such as Playstation 1 games or NES, SNES or even Sega system games. All 3 also have a system in place for game companies, usually the smaller independent companies, to release digital only games. Games like Braid, Escape Plan, Hustle Kings, Sumioni: Demon Arts and Castle Crashers are just a couple of the recent releases. Big publishers are also beginning to put their games up digitally at the same time that the retail stores get the physical games.
Sony has placed a huge emphasis on digital games for it’s newest handheld system, the Playstation Vita. All Vita games are supposed to be available on the PSN Store on the same day as the commercial release. Unlike the PS3 games that come to the PSN, the digital Vita games have a small discount over the retail releases. About a 10% discount. Not really that big of a discount. Yet PS3 games that come out on the PSN at the same time as the retail versions share the exact same price.
The Outerhaven lists each and every upcoming Soulslike title that is either being released or supposedly being released in 2024. This list includes Another Crab’s Treasure, Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn, Phantom Blade Zero, and more.
Arrowhead Game Studios chief Johan Pilestedt revealed that Sony PlayStation doubled the development budget of Helldivers 2.
Which is pretty good that they supported them in making it a high quality game with more funding. Basically shutting up the complainers about Sony making a GaaS game. The GaaS game turned out well and doesn't bombard gamers with micro transactions and doesn't signal the death knell of single player gaming.
Same with Sony's online. Microsoft offered nothing for a decade when XBL started on the OG Xbox going past 360. Sony launched theirs and gave away games to play for subscribing to their service. More bang for your buck than what you paid in. A better way of doing it compared to what was before.
Now we see gamers complaining about AI. But maybe Sony will use AI correctly and do it right that benefits their company and their employees. We have to see the results before bitching and complaining.
And the beat goes on in this innovative shooter.
Not going to lie, cheaper digital prices and you would have me sold. I see absolutely no reason why digital prices are the same, or more, than retail. They hardly ever go on sale (if it isn't Steam) and feel like a total rip off.
Honestly look at movies. 6 bucks to rent a movie for 24 hours. Go to Redbox or Blockbuster, 99 cents for a day or 7 dollars for a week.
What irks me is the US dollar is crap and we are still paying nearly double the price here in Australia. WTH?
Someone is reaping all the profits bigtime.
I truly hope more and more companies will be either consulting with or trying to completely rip off Valve's strategy with Steam.
Massive catalogue, good pricing up front (very few games, even multiplats via console, were $60 this gen), and regular sales.
It balances out the sales so that early adopters are willing to pay a large amount up front, people capable of waiting can grab it when the price drops, and impulse buyers will snag it by the thousands when the sale goes to 75% off.
Digital download prices are great! I gameshared Mass Effect 3!
Agree 100% that digital prices need to come down,I would consider buying 95% of my games digitally if the asking price was a little less.
Having said that,my digital ME3 'copy' cost me 25$ as I split the cost with my bro.A decent deal I guess.
A physical copy is preferable in the end but digital downloads are ultimately a convenient alternative.
