This is why Silent Hill HD Collection is still worth purchasing

No matter how many Survival horror games you have played, nothing feels as nostalgic or as fleshed out Psychedelic, bizarre mess as the original Silent Hill on the Playstation 1.

Totally revamped Voice acting (most notably SH3), Re-written Script, totally redone SAVE system are definitely a few of the worthy additions to the already great package.

The opening soundtrack, the Haunted school and amusement park, the clearly fleshed-out well-developed characters and voice actors, blood stained piano and rooftop puzzles differentiated the Nightmarish Chaos= SILENT HILL.

DOwnpour really is a big disappointment to the Franchise yet again.

Kamikaze1354416d ago

I think they are trying way too hard to streamline the series while holding on to its roots. In the process, they are alienating the fans; the only people who strongly support the series.

geniusgamerdoc4416d ago

Totally agree...

Same thing has Happened to NINJA GAIDEN Franchise as well.

Kurt Russell4416d ago

I'm so on this HD collection!

Saying that... although I am being warned away, probbably end up buying Downpour as well at some point >.>

jc485734416d ago

DO NOT BUY THIS COLLECTION! The game is full of technical issues. Just think "Frame rate drop" Collection because that is exactly what it is. Lip sync is way off too.

ritsuka6664416d ago

Totally revamped Voice acting (most notably SH3),"

I sorry, the VA are terrible now =/

LightofDarkness4416d ago (Edited 4416d ago )

If you have any sort of half-decent PC or laptop, get the games for that if you'd like to see them in HD (although I hear 3 suffers a bit). From many reports, this collection is a terrible cash-in designed only to shake a few more desperate pennies from the embattled and weary Silent Hill fanbase.

HarryMasonHerpderp4416d ago (Edited 4416d ago )

pc versions are buggy though (still 10 times better than this HD collection)
i have sound looping on SH2 but SH3 runs alot better.
Anyone got a link to patch these games on PC?

Errod884416d ago

I haven't played the Silent Hill series before,Should I get the HD Collection or the original PS2 games.

DigitalAnalog4416d ago (Edited 4416d ago )

In a manner of speaking, yes. If possible, get the PS2 versions. However, if one would have no other alternative means (that includes getting the PC versions) of playing the games than the HD collection is the only method accessible. However, I would strongly advise against it considering this is your first entry into the series.

If you have a PS3, go download the original Silent Hill on the PSN. THAT in my most humble and recommended opinion to start off fresh in the series.

Errod884416d ago

Cheers mate will buy Silent Hill on PSN
didn't either know had it thank you.

Kahvipannu4416d ago

I might add that if you happen to have working XBox (not 360), get SH2 for it. It's technically better than it's PS2 counterpant, and it has some additional content.

Little warning about SH1, it has not dated well, it's technically very very old. If you can get past that and clunky controls, it's definitelly worth checking out.

I mostly disagree with Downpour's position. Yeah, the game is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but is much better than the HD Collection and Homecoming. The main issue is the performance, but that was mitigated by the patches, especially on the PS3. Personally, I put it a little behind Origins and The Room.

Having Restless Dreams as a different entry from Silent Hill 2 is also a choice.

bfrye26186d ago

Normally, we would not consider it a different game (Restless Dreams), but since it had a very different critical reception and had new content, it was allowed. As for Downpour, I would agree, but since that one is subjective, we let him make his case for the placement.

gold_drake185d ago

silent hill 2 is definitely the best one out of those.

for me personally, the whole ritual/cult stuff was always so weird to me in all the other games.

CrimsonWing69185d ago

No disrespect but I put SH2 over 1. 1 is fantastic, but 2 took it all up a level.

bfrye26184d ago

We agree, that is why the writer put it in top place!

100% agree! SH2 is undoubtedly a stone cold classic.

gold_drake348d ago

i played a couple of months ago for the first time.

i agree that its a great survival game, but i think the minute u realise you can "kill" them, its takes alot of the initial fear out of it.
the same thing happened to me in Siren Blood Curse.

but its definitely one of the best games, when you start looking into the lore and the symbolism

1nsomniac348d ago

Never played it. I had moved on from PlayStation since then. So looking forward to the remake. Hope it’s not too cheesy tho.

P_Bomb347d ago

Pyramid Head or Red Pyramid. Which do you guys call him?

Pickledpepper347d ago

I've just brought the silent hill collection for the ps2 and absolutely loving it

Knushwood Butt347d ago

Nice.

I have the games, just no PS2.

Pickledpepper347d ago

I have a ps2 for sale and a n64 lol

how is it after the patches? Aren't there also more to come?

Amplitude734d ago (Edited 734d ago )

Did people not like the Mafia 2 remake? I got so into it. Thought it was amazing. Never played the original.

Some of these are fitting but I can't help but feel like the author just has nostalgia for the original Mafia 2 here. Dmc Collection on PS4 is fiiiiine its just a collection of PS2 games and the PS3 performance was not amazing. The point is to just have the PS2 games for a new gen of people. Crysis Remastered is also totally fine and has been patched and updated to death since launch. The original version essentially ran on one CPU core and they couldn't fix it let alone get that running on console/switch so they had good reason to do what they did to boost interest in Crysis before the Crysis 4 announcement

Lots of way worse remasters out there lol GTA, THPS HD, that Mario 3D All Stars trash, etc

jeenyus734d ago

That's the issue, you haven't played the original.
The new one is slightly better looking but it's bugged af by comparison.

So in essence ... 2020 the year of bad remasters

Sounds like a case of quick cash grabs during the pandemic.
