5 RPG Series’ I Miss The Most

Trendy Gamers: It is a very good time to be a player of RPGs. Even though at the start of this console generation it had seemed like most of the good RPGs had simply disappeared, RPGs are now abundant in number. Whether you are looking for classic RPG action or newer, more forward thinking RPG action, you can find it on one platform or another. There are however, several RPG series that have seemingly died on us over the years. These are the five RPG series’ that I miss the most.

These RPG franchises need to return:

Grandia
Breath of Fire
Skies of Arcadia
Brave Fencer Musashi
Dark Cloud
Rogue Galaxy
Tactics Ogre
Legend of Dragoon

TrendyGamers4455d ago

There was a rumour a little way back that said Skies of Arcadia would be coming to XBLA and if its true, it'll be a day one purchase for me.

Shikoro4454d ago

Shadow hearts 2 is the best in the series but Shadow hearts 3 has the best combat.

I really don't miss any series but I do miss the variety.

TooTall194455d ago (Edited 4455d ago )

I miss games like Dark Cloud. I hope to pick up a ps2 and another copy of Dark Cloud 2 to play through this summer.

TrendyGamers4455d ago

I need to replay and finally beat Dark Cloud 2. I got to the final area and stopped because it was just too much work.

Shikoro4454d ago

Same as me. X(

Such a wonderful game. :'(

Shivan4455d ago

How can I miss when this has been one of the best japanese rpg eras in modern history? with awesome titles on no less than 5 platforms?

Lets look at the companies in question and what awesome stuff theyve done

Level - dragon quest IX, ninokuni, d' arc, inazuma eleven.......

The team who did shadow hearts, went on to do lost oddessy, enough said

grandia team has made a bunch of things but my favorite is the 3ds rpg REXX.

Then we come to capcom - Yes they really dont do rpgs at all anymore, but they have done monster hunter, and 3 games in the megaman battle network series this gen

Glass is half full

Breath of Fire, Suikoden (there's a new PSP title, but no port for US), Vakyrie Profile, Wild ARMs, SaGa (Frontier or Romancing) and many others, not to mention the series that are around, but don't deliver anything close to past gens like Star Ocean or Final Fantasy.

Shivan4455d ago

breath of fire is a dead series granted ( but there are plenty of new rpg ips this gen)

suikoden has had 2 new entriesw ( whether the psp game comes to the US is irrelevant big time for now)

a new entry in the valkyrie profile, wild arms, saga series have been made this gen as well as awesome entries in the SO and ff series

Off topic but I was pissed that they didn't give you the option to listen to the classic RE3 OST for RE3R that was one of the best options for RE2R.

NeoBards Director for Project Resistance has said he wants to make a Breath of Fire game.

Al Yang, NeoBards Director for Project Resistance, wants to make a BoF game for Capcom.

"Hey Capcom! How about letting us make a new Breath of Fire after Project Resistance? Pleeeeeaaaasssseeee? :3 "

There's a PS3 emulator that can run it. PC is getting close now that hackers can use patron to work full time on that stuff.

aarogree2307d ago

But you wouldn't need an emulator if it was ported, now would you?

SegaGamer2308d ago

I would be so happy if Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King came to PC, it's one of my favourite JRPG's of all time. Saying that, i could just play it on the emulator PCSX2.

aarogree2308d ago

Yes, but wouldn't you rather have an officially supported version of the game?

ShadowWolf7122307d ago

Only if it keeps the additions from the 3DS version.

ClanPsi12307d ago (Edited 2307d ago )

All I want is a Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 (fully localised) HD remaster collection.

TheColbertinator2307d ago

Suikoden could use another chance on Steam

aarogree2307d ago

It's on GOG. Pretty sure that's better than being on Steam.

TheColbertinator2307d ago

From what I understand, that was for China and Japan not the US.

aarogree2307d ago

Sorry, my mistake. Was thinking of another game.
