Geek Revolt: Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations Review

GR's DeShaun Zollicoffer writes:

My 12-year-old nephew is currently obsessed with two things, video games, and Naruto. So Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations (say that five times) is destined to be his GOTY. Obviously this appeals to the younger crowd. It even comes with trading cards, and you're urged to buy more to unlock additional in-game goodies. Do you hear that? It's the sound of a million kids begging their mom for a new pack of Naruto cards. Jokes aside, can adults and people that aren't familiar with the anime enjoy this game too?

Man, I SO want this game...

Snookies124436d ago

...Just pointing out, Naruto Shippuden deals with some heavy things and has quite a lot of cussing/violence/blood/decapit ation/maiming in the actual series. It's definitely NOT aimed for kids. XD

Anyway, I cannot wait to get my hands on this game. Storm 2 was amazing in how they portrayed the story up until the Pain arc. I do in fact have high hopes for this one!

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4436d ago

Like they'd put any of that in the game. I just got my copy. Finishing up the campaign now. Loving the new battle system.

Snookies124436d ago

No they did not put any in the game, or else it would be rated "M" I believe for any kind of dismemberment. Which kind of made the Jiraiya scene on Storm 2 have less of an impact than its manga/anime counterpart.

Still however, I do maintain that the series itself is not aimed toward younger audiences. Shoot, even the Japanese version of the anime is slightly altered in some parts from the original manga because of some scenes.

DeeZee4436d ago

Yeah it's not really for kids, but like DBZ its audience is made up of a good amount of kids (9-14). And the cards feel aimed towards kids, since I don't know a lot of adults that would collect Naruto cards.

How's the online guys? Is it as laggy as UNS2 was?

Sarobi4435d ago

Played a few matchs, and despite the constant spam (ragggeeee), everything seemed pretty lag-free

Creating the Perfect Naruto Fighting Game

By owner/editor-in-chief Furious Francis

I am a huge Naruto fan. I’ve been watching the show since 2007 and love every bit of it. Unfortunately the Naruto video games do not touch the level of quality the anime displays. Sure, if you’re a Naruto fan, playing Ultimate Ninja 2 is going to be fun, but the games lack the depth and strategy other fighting games have. Even a party game like Smash Bros has more skill involved with the battle system than most Naruto games. The Clash of Ninja Revolution games do a decent job of building a Tekken or Street Fighter type of game but ultimately fall short because of balancing, shallow depth, and button mashing tendencies. In this article, were going to discuss my vision for a perfect Naruto game. This Perfect Naruto game will not only be accurate to the anime, but will also have deep fighting game mechanics that actually takes skill to master.

Game Guys review - Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations

It seems like six months can't go past without another video game based upon the popular 'Naruto' anime being either announced or released. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, the third in Namco Bandai's Ninja Storm series, came out earlier this year. The title takes some of the better elements of the first two games and adds some original content of its own to provide an above-average anime-inspired video game fighting action experience.

Sub bar/Chakra cancel

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4323d ago

Yea they did. The point of a substitution bar was to promote the use of melee attacks by limiting how often a person can substitute them. But the cancel dash completely kills it because the second you use a substitution you'll be met with the cancel dash. Cancel dashing forces a person to use up all their subs so it's not really wise to use them at all.

omarzy4323d ago

chakra cancel/sub bar were genius. Always kept you at full attention during an exchange. All about the timing and how you use your limited sub bars. charkra cancel can be beaten with another chakra cancel, a grab after sub jutsu, or chakra dash backwards and work out a plan, or just sideways and flip around the player.

Snookies124323d ago

Wow 3 disagrees, really? Generations was the definitive version of Ninja Storm if you were playing multiplayer with friends. 2 did have a vastly superior story mode, but Generations was fantastic as well.

I'm just happy it sold that many units, so we can continue to look forward to more Ninja Storm games. NSUNS:3 looks like it's going to beat them all though, just by that one freaking trailer.

Redempteur4323d ago

Sold my copy this afternoon..
Some problems of ninja storm fixed but this one introduced others .. and it felt incomplete and inférior in term of content. They better do a better job for Storm 3 or they'll not have my money ..

rezzah4323d ago

I`m still waiting for the price to drop down further before I get it.

Though I wish I had it now!!
