The "Song of Fire & Ice" Fantasy novel series by George R.R. Martin is without a doubt the hottest property around. From television to clothing. It has taken on a phenomenon unlike any we have seen. The gaming universe at large has taken notice, and titles are emerging from various publishers. The Game of Thrones be free-to-play browser title intends to offer up game play we have yet to really see on the platform. From graphics to story. There is a clear gauntlet being thrown down. Are gamer's ready?
Bigpoint, publishers of hugely popular browser-based MMO games such as The Mummy and Pirate Storm, have just announced the full title for their upcoming game based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire, Game Of Thrones Seven Kingdoms.
Graphics in the screenshot are looking pretty intense for a browser title. Unity FTW :D
Inspired by the tv series and adapted from George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy book series, the game itself will be set within the fictional, medieval world of Westeros and its Seven Kingdoms.
Joystiq:
It had to be said. And for fans of George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, that one little phrase elicits some powerful and mixed emotions: excitement (to actually wander about Westeros) and dread (will it actually be Westeros?). There was even a collective cringe among some Massively staff when the announcement was made that Game of Thrones was becoming an MMORPG. Could such a complex world translate well into the virtual realm? It made the transition to television pretty well in HBO's series, but a free-to-play browser-based MMO is a whole other beast.
I'm sure it'll be a PC exclusive, which eliminates me. But, I'm looking forward to Cyanide's Game of Thrones RPG (published by Atlus.)
