HORI Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Arcade Stick Review | ESG

"The time has come again to review a fightstick, this time we are looking at the “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Arcade Stick” from HORI. As you all know if you take fighting games seriously, chances are you own a fightstick of some sort. The stick was released in November 2011 so it is still pretty new and a contender for one of the best premium fightsticks around." - Wallis from ESG

this stick is fucking solid, just recently bought this (however without the artwork but same stick) and plays awesome, no input lag, decent length usb cord definitely high quality parts highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stick.

Wait, what sticks have input lag?

ScytheX34432d ago

wireless hori stick that was released some months back, had input lag

But buying a wireless stick in the first place is a big red flag...

I usually prefer Madcatz over Hori. They use the same parts ( sanwa denshi) and are easier to mod / alter. Hori uses hot glue to all their connectors and are a PITA to swap parts out on.

Besides, I prefer the Madcatz cabinets and the start and back/ select buttons not being near the action / input buttons.

BTW no wired stick I have used this generation had input lag. Maybe the cheap wireless ones might have had some but I didnt buy it so I wouldnt know for sure.

Hori sticks are excellent stick if youre not into kodding or customizing them. If you are, get a Madcatz. I have several of tgem and a couple Hori's. I know that which I speak.

I'd advise against getting this now classic one with just a refreshed artwork , but only because hori propose an imo better and new design with their recent Soul calibur V dedicated stick .

The start button is better placed , the layout is arguably better with more space between the stick and the buttons . Plus you get 2 extra ports on the side , one for usb headphones the other for keyboard

Do you have the new Hori SCV model? If so have you ever taken it apart? Do they still glue all their connectors together or is that a thing of the past? I haven't purchased a newer model Hori in a few years. That was my biggest gripe about them because I like to swap out buttons, sticks and change the art work. The two I own were such a PITA I just let them be. One has Seimitsu parts. I go back and forth between the two.

Edit: just googled the Hori SCV stick. That is a sweet design. It looks like the new Madcatz SFxTekken stick for $199. Mine arrives tomorrow. Maybe I will order one of these SCV Hori sticks as well to add to my collection. Thx for the info Baka

haven gotten it yet . Ordered one , but my local retail mixed it up with the madcatz soul stick instead , wich is as good and probably prettier by default .

I dunno if they glue the connectors anymore - outside of a few cheap games dedicated version , as seen with the cheap tekken 6 stick or full hori blazblue ones - the hrap3 SA and the Hrap V3 SA (basically the one reviewed with umvc 3 sticker art) were easy to mod .

I dunno if the new scv hori stick art is a swappable faceplate or a sticker art however .

I just jumped on my laptop, was on my Droid, so I could get a better look at this Hori SCV all I can say is wow. It is a lot different than the two I own. I am definitely getting one.

My biggest gripe with the two I own is having the start and select on the face plate but this new design has a start button cover. <- That is a great design choice. I guess I'm not the only one this bothered.

I hope this is the route Hori goes from here on out. I can live without not being able to change the art work. I have enough custom designs already. Just as long as I can the buttons or sticks if I chose or need to.

See, N4G is good for something. <-*note to self, not you*
