MediaStinger: "At its core, Nexuiz is a decent shooter with solid controls and an interesting gimmick that unfortunately pales in comparison to a four-year-old Unreal Tournament III. It might be unfair to stack a $10 downloadable game against a full retail game, but when the four-year-old Unreal Tournament III is still superior in every way and you can buy it at your local game shop used for less than Nexuiz, it doesn’t make sense why anyone would rather play Nexuiz, a poor man’s Unreal that’s ironically currently more expensive."
Nexuiz launched as a PC and console game 10 years ago, but the downfall of THQ lead to problems for the inspirational title.
Remember Nexuiz, the arena first-person shooter pulled from Steam three years ago after publisher THQ went bust? It's back.
Developer IllFonic has self-published the game on Steam, where it costs £7.99 (it's £3.99 until 22nd March).
Didn't get around to playing it until after the community died. Great to see it back.
The aftershock of THQ's dissolution continues, as servers for the Xbox 360 version of Nexuiz have been shut down. Developer Illfonic announced the news on its Facebook page, noting that the servers were being run by THQ and "cannot be maintained anymore." The PC servers, however, will remain online courtesy of Illfonic itself.
That's a shame, I loved this game but guess I won't be able to complete the achievements now.
it might be a poor mans unreal but until we get a new unreal this is the best we are gonna get.
Wow. That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I thought Nexuiz was pretty fun.
Fun, nice, fast paced... but the host advantage is killing the fun. Way too laggy when playing from EU with US buddies. Sad because the game is playing really great and the game changers are really fun. Need a patch to reduce the lag or at least lock online by region to minimize it. Minor micro freezes are annoying too but there's nothing an update can't fix. I hope so.
ZING!
