The tech demo was good, I'm now interested to know more. But I don't think the facial expression animations are as good as L.A Noire.

NovusTerminus4434d ago

The reason is LA Noire's animations took allot of RAM to look like that. Hence why their bodies where low res but their faces moved human.

hardcore19124434d ago

No, I don't agree with you. L.A Noire character bodies where fine not low res as you say, especially considering it's an open-world game, not a linear super scripted game.

Grap4434d ago

LordMe he's right the animations in LA Noire took allot of ram in scene in real time (gameplay) they didn't (nor can't) use the facial expression engine.

nveenio4434d ago

I wasn't impressed with LA Noire's animations. It looked too much like a video mapped on a model. I'd rather the animation be more organic to the model itself, like what QD has done here.

NukaCola4434d ago

I wouldn't compare LA Noire to this at all. LA Noire uses real time faces mapped to pretty mediocre bodies. The game was great but the facial expressions were only there to help with it's TRUTH & LIE judgment system.

With QD games, its always about emotion and story. The character are always graphically at their best, not for the effect, but to allow the voice actors to push their emotions into them. David Cage sets his players up with a sense that you learn and grow with the story and you make your choices based on your own emotions in how you would perform each task or scenerio.

LA Noire is driven from a detective's standpoint and is much more linear. QD is about giving the player a freedom to make choices and even mistakes and failures.

I do have to say I am impressed. The Bicentennial Man meets Blade Runner kind of choked me up a bit. Cage is a genius.

mep694434d ago

@inveni0
Agree completely.

Also LA Noire got a bit boring early on. I wasn't ever bored in Heavy Rain. Thing that let that down for me was some of the Voice Acting and the scenario of how they made Jason die was a bit weak. Should of had something that made abit more sence, like an argument or him saying im bored lets play tag or something like that would have made more sence then him randomly crossing the road and walking back to get hit by a car.

Hmm lol all this just to agree with you HAHA ^_^

SilentNegotiator4433d ago

LA Noire was like watching real people in a "human costume" made of clay and paper, only faces exposed.

But then, I didn't really find ANYTHING impressive about that game. Maybe if they spent less time on whipping actors and face capturing and more on gameplay...

The tech in L.A Noir was great but it felt very unnatural compared to this. In L.A Noir the face and body felt like they had minds of their own due to being captured separately, this tech on the other hand captures everything as a whole and it shows, the body language matches the facial expression.

NoOoB1014434d ago

This tech demo is year old they said. Im sure a lot of improvements have been made.

gta_manic4434d ago

To me, La Noire was a bit awkward at times with the acting, but the face mapping was great. This tech is trying to put everything together with not just the face mapping but having everything recorded at the same time including voice and motion together.

Lord_Sloth4434d ago

Because LA Noire spent years in development. Tech demos don't.

CarlitoBrigante4434d ago

L.A Noire took 6 years to make. This demo was made 1 year ago, just 1 year after Heavy Rains release, and it already looks far better than L.A Noire.

L.A Noire was a boring game btw, the ending sucked. Quantic Dream tells awesome stories.

PirateThom4434d ago (Edited 4434d ago )

LA Noire may have better facial animations because their engine was built solely around it. (I would dispute that though, it was a bit weird at times.)

They captured JUST the actors face and then applied it to a body that was captured separately. It's why the main times it comes into play, the actors are, pretty much static, bar their face. There's too much of a disconnect in quality of the motion capture in LA Noire and that's why Cage was saying it wasn't suitable, this captured the actor doing everything at once, no disconnect. Which is why it's more natural.

BabyTownFrolics4434d ago

do you not realize what website your on? acknowledge the power of the ps3 or perish

cant wait for their next game, I hope it integrates move from day one

StraightPath4434d ago

L.A noire facial animation was the best i have seen. This was good but unfortunately wasnt as good in terms of real life depiction. This you can tell its a computer graphics, at times l.a noire facial impressions were scary real looking.

FrankDrebin4434d ago

A hidden Hint.
Haha

I like the sounds of this!

I will buy anything put out by Quantic after Heavy Rain, and this tech demo was riveting. I want more. The hint thing embedded in the demo was pure conjecture though. May be true, but the title had a ring of certainty to it. Be fun if it was, though!

Ness-Psi4434d ago

I thought he said his next game was gonna be an emotional war game?

what ever it is i'm very excited,i just like that he doesnt stick to the same old thing and tries new things.

the tech demo was awesome.

Did you also notice that Kara has 5 fingers? It's certainly not a coincidence, definitely another hint about their next game.

Virtual_Reality4434d ago

To have 5 fingers that is more normal than a coincidence xD.

If that was Sarcasm, then lol!

Virtual_Reality4434d ago

Hard to tell, but also there is another article of QD saying they are recruiting personal, and also they are casting asian people for something.

Definitely they are working in a game with the new engine, but still yet to be revealed.

Quantic Dream Announces New Publishing Label Spotlight

Quantic Dream has announced a new publishing label, Spotlight, following the reveal of debut title Under the Waves.

sadraiden323d ago

Interesting to see how this works out for them. QD have had a very lucrative partnership with Sony. David Cage is a household name among Playstation owners, and he might not have been if QD stuck with Atari as their publisher. Now they're launching Spotlight so they can circumvent Sony exclusivity? I imagine this isn't the last we'll hear from Spotlight.

Abnor_Mal323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Weren’t QD bought buy Tencent, and if so then I’m sure there wouldn’t be anymore Sony exclusivity.

Ok it seems to have been NetEase that bought them back in 2022.

mjchitown323d ago

this is not a Sony exclusivity. you can clearly see Xbox One Xbox Series X ps4 ps5

Sonic1881322d ago (Edited 322d ago )

Funny you mention that because in a few Diablo 4 articles, Xbox was the only console that was tagged. It didn't tag playstation or PC and Diablo 4 is a multiplatform game

porkChop323d ago

Bro they had a 3-game contract with Sony. That ended with Detroit. They've haven't been working together since then, so they aren't circumventing anything. They have no obligation to Sony.

CrimsonWing69322d ago

Didn’t they show a Star Wars fake at a Sony event?

I might be wrong about that, but I feel like that’s where I saw if.

porkChop322d ago

I don't think so, Star Wars: Eclipse was announced at the Game Awards.

CrimsonWing69322d ago

@porkchop

The Game Awards, you’re right!

Kekewei322d ago (Edited 322d ago )

I don't think so. There some sources claiming Sony was not happy with their partnership at the end, they even canceled a project that was supposed to be the 4th ps exclusive from QD.

QD is gold! They make excellent games

mastershredder322d ago

Can’t wait for all those quicktime events and bash-you-with-boredom storytelling.

Snookies12322d ago

There's nothing wrong with QTE's. Never understood the hate for them. You press a single button to attack in most games. You press a single button to jump in most games. Why does it then become an issue when you press a button during a cutscene to do something?

JackBNimble322d ago

It's a niche market and not everyone is into that type of game.

RedDevils322d ago

I like their games, it's different from all the trash we seeing every years.

GoodGuy09322d ago

God was Detroit a gem. Hope that their new games are at least on par.

Why Quantic Dream sold up after 25 years

From GI.biz: "Today, Quantic Dream embarks on a new chapter as it is brought into the fold of NetEase – the Chinese publisher's first European acquisition.

Over the past quarter of a century, the French studio has built a reputation for itself on the back of cinematic titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human. While these games may divide opinion among individual gamers, generally speaking they have been well received by critics and praised for attempting something different when it comes to interactive storytelling.

The high profile of these games, and the studio's long-running partnership with PlayStation, put Quantic Dream on the map – to the point where co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière (pictured above left) tells GamesIndustry.biz the company has engaged in acquisition discussions with several potential buyers over its lifetime."

I guess another company that will be restricted on what they can and can't say by the Chinese govmt

camel_toad604d ago (Edited 604d ago )

China will be writing the Quantic Dream scripts from here on out.

masterfox604d ago

infinite supply of fried rice?, I kid I kid, most probably cash ?, retirement? running out of ideas, who knows.

rlow1604d ago

Well I wrote a big post on this but somehow it deleted from the stupid glitching advertisement on this site. Does any bodies screen jump around as the advertisement changes up. Just asking.

As for the Chinese buying up game companies. What’s one way to monitor people and behaviors? Through the gaming analytics they get from people playing. I really believe they are trying to manipulate the world as much as possible. Remember the bird nest at their first Olympics. Their Vision of the world all neatly tied up for them.. I know it’s a stretch, but either the Chinese government has a lot of Gamers, or something else is going on behind the scenes.

MadLad604d ago (Edited 604d ago )

Yeah.
It's freaking annoying.

Typing a thought out comment you made on the fly then, bam, you're in an ad and it's gone.

I mean, there's an ad in virtually every square inch of this site. Can I at least make a comment without worrying it's just going to be yeeted out of existence at the last few words?
