Does Street Fighter X Tekken show how DLC is getting out of control?

Before the start of this gen there was talk of a thing called downloadable content. I remember that loads of gamers were scared by this notion. Game developers could release new missions, game modes and various other add ons. Unlike the PC, console gamers would rarely get any of this [...]

"DLC should be looked at once the game has gone gold, not while the game is being made. Once it is finished, give it away some for free to keep players enticed and release extra meaty content. This surely would help to battle pre-owned sales too. If you knew that you were about to get 12 DLC charactrs for free you may hold onto that game a while longer or even keep it outright."

That was well said.

Cheers. It just really angers me that games companies like to complain that everyone sells their games, yet Capcom turn around and announce that DLC that is ready now will cost users. It makes no sense. Even if they released six characters for free, six as dlc it'd be a bit nicer. Stuff like Team Fortress has thrived off this kind of thing.

Although I agree with the hate towards the DLC on the disc. Just be thankful Capcom doesn't have online passes yet.

Well, you're not forced to buy the game or dlc.Just wait for some digital store to have some half off sale or something.

The problem with that "not my problem attitude" is that uninformed gamers do buy the products which incite other companies to follow suit for easy bucks. If Capcom or other companies don't see a massive decline sales then this asinine gouging will continue to flourish.....

certainly shows that Capcom doesn't know what to do with it.

If Capcom is truly worried about shelf life, I propose selling Street Fighter, using this title for example of course, for 30 dollars including a size amount of characters to unlock IN GAME without paying for them. Next have a poll for fans about two months later asking for who they want to add in. Release a fan favourite expansion after another four months then rinse and repeat. The Street Fighter universal roster is way too huge for them to be skimping on characters anytime soon......

Street Fighter X Tekken - A Look Back at the Franchise's Biggest Misfire

With Street Fighter 6 now upon us, it's time to look back at some classic Street Fighter titles, beginning with Street Fighter X Tekken.

It was a cool gamble imo. In reality, everyone were waiting for Namco version, Tekken X Street Fighter.

Ryuha1234h330d ago

I don’t know. I enjoyed this game. I thought it was a great crossover.

TricksterArrow330d ago (Edited 330d ago )

Yep, played very little of it, but from what I played, it was serviceable enough. Could've been better? Yes, but then again, you can say that about pretty much anything.

What killed this game was their planned reliance on GaaS with the whole gem system. It made little sense and made the game extremely unbalanced. Not to mention the unbalance of most of the characters, especially on the Tekken side

Sgt_Slaughter330d ago

Ahhh the game that Capcom had DLC on the disc on release yet you had to pay to unlock it

Street Fighter & Tekken - A Mash-Up Not Meant for Greatness

VGChartz's Daniel Parker: "Tekken and Street Fighter - two giants of the head-to-head fighting genre. A clashing of decades-old titans that was once thought to be a dream matchup that would never happen. It ignited a flame of excitement that quickly fizzled out and became a cautionary tale for game developers."

The inclusion of gems ruined it from the start.
