wouldn't be surprised if the engine was Frostbite 2!

Yi-Long4442d ago

... as long as this time they go back to the great deep gameplay Sim City 4 had, instead of the travesty that was SC Societies!

Also, I pray that they'll just bring out a COMPLETE game, instead of the current trend of selling a basic package and then releasing lots of small mini-DLC to cash in on micro-transactions.

Really excited about a proper SC5 coming out though. It's been wayyy too long!

ProjectVulcan4442d ago (Edited 4442d ago )

I was playing SimCity 4 only last week, a new proper SimCity but with even deeper management would be fantastic. We are long overdue one, SimCity 4 is 10 years old next year!! Now thats a wait for a proper sequel.

Sim City 4 is still very playable but aged now, and it does not run particularly well on modern hardware. However the game is a brilliant as ever building up cities and trade.

I would quite like more detailed management though, more sectors you can customise. Even if you could go right down to street level planning it would be amazing, the tools in SC4 were basic by todays standards.

I really wish as the years pass, your city modernises if it is prosperous until it is eventually futuristic and super high tech. Sim City 4 lacked here majorly.

I always wanted a modern Sim City where you could start off building basic villages and huts etc and as the years fly by you end up with different era buildings and coal power and petrol cars all the way through to fusion plants and scifi hover cars etc if you do well.

If you do poorly then you develop slower and struggle to advance technologically while possibly rival cities reach out ahead of you.

Oh and of course, one more thing- massive, massive, massive cities. Bigger tiles. Huge areas you can play and build multiple big cities. PC performance has moved on a long way in 10 years. It is still as difficult as ever to have lots of different objects because of DirectX , but the variety and scope should be vastly improved.

... many many people have been complaining about compatibility problems and crashes, even under XP and Vista, and now on 7.

One of the 'fixes' which kinda reduces SOME problems, is right-clicking the exe-file and going into the options/settings and making sure it only runs on 1 core.

But obviously, saving every 10 minutes orso is always a smart thing to do.

ProjectVulcan4442d ago

Yes, turning the shadows down or off improves performance a lot. 1 core never seemed to make any difference for me. Software mode is probably best for most people on modern hardware.

I just couldn't get the thing to run at all, it crashed constantly as soon as i clicked anything after starting the game.

My solution ended up swapping the executable for a cracked one. I do this a fair bit, i DO own the original titles (deluxe edition ofc) but it is nice to not need a disc and in this instance, that was the only way the game would even run on Windows 7 for me!

3GenGames4442d ago (Edited 4442d ago )

3D Engine? What? I can sense failure approaching....never leave the 2D control scheme for the map movement please! Never! It's perfect....I hope they just mean a 3D game, not 3D movement.

tarbis4442d ago

w00t! Always been a fan of SimCity. Can't wait to play this game. =D

vega2754442d ago

this is by far the biggest news for me. I've been playing cities XL 2012 and 2011 and i can tell you this news brought a Tear to my eye.

i pray it's not like SC Societies and carnival snapcity. please

Driveclub was the worst i think. No, maybe Diablo 3... or...

thorstein3458d ago

Battlefield 4....wasn't fixed until 2 months ago.

3-4-53458d ago

Not for all.

I had it on PC and it worked 100% from day one. Never had a problem with it, so for me, I had a really positive experience with the game, even though it could still use improvements....the maps.

Majin-vegeta3458d ago

At least those game were playable unlike BF4..Which no matter what you did something would always happen.

Ripsta7th3458d ago

I have been playing BF4 since launch(ps4) and never saw those signifacnt problems, i did lag once ina a while but NEVER anything that would make the game unplayable
Mustve been reqlly lucky i guess

Halo Masterchief Collection

Broken 1 week and counting

TXIDarkAvenger3458d ago

I think Grand Theft Auto Online was even worse for me than D3. Still get disconnected and then end up in single player and than have to wait like 5 minutes to get back into multiplayer. Loading is so slow.

xPhearR3dx3458d ago

GTA was understandable though. It was the fastest selling entertainment product of all time, and they launched the MP 2 weeks after the game was released. In that time, people got their "fix" for the game and was ready to play online. When you have 20+ million people trying to connect to a game in the same day(s), it's expected to not work properly.

I played on PS3 and I believe I was one of the lucky ones. On the 3rd day after GTAO launched, I had no issues at all. Let's just hope the PS4/Xbone launch is much smoother this time around.

the_mack_attack33458d ago (Edited 3458d ago )

Anybody notice that nearly all games are having terrible launches! We need a video-game related Russell Brand so we can wake up and face this travesty head on in a revolutionary format!

Perjoss3458d ago

His topics seem to range all the way from politics to Kim Kardashian's arse, so he might touch on gaming at some point, there is hope i think!

Philaroni3458d ago

Ya BF4 takes the cake on this one. I remember Gears 2 had lots of issues MP wise. BF4 lost alot of players due to the year of issues. Destiny though had a good launch very few issues for the most part.

Findingcrybabies3458d ago (Edited 3458d ago )

im gonna have to give it to GTA, Bethesda, but most of all probably DICE.

I have said I will never buy a Rockstar or Bethesda game new ever again....I will however buy the GOTY editions from the bargain bins with all the dlc for free once they FINALLY fix most of the bugs or at least the ones that are going to get fixed.

I would have to say DICE or Ubishit (the MP in their games...AC3 was my final tipping point, but there were many...the infinite animus hack was the straw) though because I have swore I will never buy a game that has their name on the box period. So those are my votes. Absolutely terrible devs that release broken garbage.

Hereiamhereibe23458d ago

Gta single player worked fine, Online when it did come out did have comnectivity issues but was resolved in a few days. Skyrim was spot-free unless you tried to brake shit. Did you even play these games at launch or did you let some troll tell what to buy?

Opinion: Is the technology ready for the new generation?

One thing seems unanimous when speaking of this generation of game; the online play and social should now be an integral part of the new offerings of games. Although the concept has benn established for several years, is the technology sufficient to meet the new expectations of today new-gen players?

It became almost commonplace to see video game launches botched by technical problems; the impossibilities to play the game or even see redesigns and deactivations of options. While developers should always deliver the best possible gaming experience, it looks like it's now a matter of making the game work before offering a wider experience.

From SimCity To DMC: The Most Underrated Games Of 2013

At this stage of the calendar year, with the transition to new hardware and the current onslaught of software, it’s easy to get swept up in the annual gaming maelstrom. ’Tis the season, after all. Having said that, although this year may not signal the curtain call for the seventh generation of consoles per se — with Dark Souls II et al slated to release in 2014 — 2013 will still go down as a notable twelve months for the industry at large.

SimCity - Was a massive slap to the face to fans and horrible DRM crap ruined the game. It was a step back for the franchise.

dmc - Same as SimCity in some places, was a massive slap to series fans and was a step back for the franchise. It should had never got good reviews because the game wasn't better then DMC4, when you have something to live up to and you fail then you shouldn't be rewarded. I could go on and on about how this game sucks but it's been said before so I won't

Dead Space 3 - Funnily enough ANOTHER game which spat in fans faces by changing the direction of the franchise into something which would appeal to a completely different audience. It's worse because they knew with Capcom how much turning your horror game into an over the top action game would be bad and how many regarded Dead Space as the new horror franchise....yet they still went along and added co-op, the god awful generic soldier grunt of a patner and many other things which made the game bad.

Those games are NOT underrated, some like DS3 and dmc did very well in reviews and in my opinion were at the time very OVER rated.

Revolt133802d ago

Dude, hell no, new DmC was a damn good game.

-Foxtrot3801d ago

No it wasn't....guessing you'd never played the old DMC....the real DMC games
