CVG: "It's a scary thing to say, but I think the goal was to look next-gen on current-gen," says creative director.

Not possible for a multiplatform game unless a tremendous amount of effort is put in solely for graphics.

Shaman4437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

According to GI exclusive preview its possible. Lately, 3rd party developers have been delivering some great looking games. Consoles are old and what 1st party "cracked" 2 years ago, 3rd party does now.

Knight_Cid4437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

saying according to gi nullifies what you say

i will take sprites on ps3 thank

TripleAAARating4437d ago

I agree with Outside_ofthe_Box, anything other than a PS3 exclusive or WiiU exclusive, not gonna happen UBI

Outside_ofthe_Box4437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

I don't understand your point.

Making great looking games is one thing, but making next gen looking games on current gen consoles is another.

There is no way a 3rd party developer that focuses on multiple consoles is going to make better looking games than a 1st party developer that strives for visual excellence and focuses on one console.

humbleopinion4437d ago

@Outside_ofthe_Box, I beg to differ
The three most beautiful open world games are probably Skyrim, Just Cause 2 and Red Dead Redemption (not in particular order). I haven't seen any Xbox 360, PS3 or PC exclusive open-world game surpass them.

Multiplatfrom games are usually accociated with bigger development budgets (since they know in advance that the userbase is bigger and expected sales are higher) and can therefore invest more money in both art and tech.
Sure, there are a few exclusive studios on both MS and Sony where money is thrown at the developers, but can you name on internal first party studio with the same amount of people working on a game as Ubisoft or Rockstar games? Their headcount is hugh.

guacman884437d ago

@ humble opinion the best looking open world game is infamous 2 hands down its not even with those other games you mention and i played them all infamous is in the top 10 of best graphics for the entire generation and it is huge and it has over 70 to 80 people at any given time on screen not to mention all of the monsters and enemys on screen. its graphics are damn near close and somtimes pass uncharted 2 levels and it has 10 times the amount of stuff happening on screen than red dead, skyrim or just cause and doing all that stuff on screen with better graphics. the image on the front cover of the box is in-game that is a fact oh and it has way better movement with some of the more fluid movement this gen. sorry for the rant guys just everybody seems to forget about inf 2 graphics it looks better than 90 percent of games these days and those games he mentioned are definetly in the 90 percent easily. ive been wondering when most games and open world will catch inf 2 in the graphics, physics, and on screen action without any frame drop for a while it is on of the most tech advance games on the market that is a fact.

ProjectVulcan4437d ago

Errrr....you can aim but you'll miss.

humbleopinion4436d ago (Edited 4436d ago )

guacman88, what are you talking about? We have to disagree I guess...
Infamous 2 has all the open worldness of corridor game game and still manages to look half-generation behind these open world games.
The world looks bland, the models are low poly and the draw distance is one of the worst for an open world game. Not to mention the lack of AA really tarnished the image quality (which was pr

These actual shots from the game (no PR bullshots) for example shows how short draw distance is and how quickly it fades into a blurry mess:
http://img854.imageshack.us...
http://img231.imageshack.us...

Try and compare these to the draw distance in RDR or JC2... Even Crackdown 2 which looks like an abomination at least supports massive draw distance - and this is one of the most important factors in an open world game which lets you go anywhere.

Honestly just curious about how the Wii U version will compare to consoles/PC version.

theWB274437d ago

I just wonder how you got a disagree about being curious about a next console. Strange.

SteamFrostedEgg4436d ago

Somebody must have disagreed with his curiousness.

dark-hollow4437d ago

Can't wait for the wii u version.

Finally (hopefully) no/less jaggies and full hd on consoles.

Major_Nelson4437d ago

Well its got a chance on the PS3 !!

Cause if 343 say "Xbox 360 is out of horsepowe running Halo 4"

And judging by the first ingame images of Halo 4
It aint gonna look even close to next gen on the 360

Outside_ofthe_Box4437d ago

It's not using all of the 360's power. Developers say that every year only to say that again the following year and produce an even better looking game than last year.

The 360 is close to being maxed out though. I feel like 343 can squeeze a little more out of the 360 with their next game after Halo 4.

4437d ago
Hanif-8764437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

Halo 4 does look amazing though and i can't wait to see some gameplay. However, i saw a screenshot of the environment and the aliasing brought the visuals down a bit but Halo isn't a game known for its visuals and its mostly added icing on the cake.

_Aarix_4437d ago

I guarentee you uncharted wouldnt look that nice if it was Practically open world like halo is.

Hoje03084437d ago

Aarix
Keep lying to yourself by stating that Halo is "practically" open world. inFamous 2 is open world and still looks better than Halo. Stop worrying about graphics, or get a PC.

starchild4436d ago

Lol I have been playing inFamous and I keep thinking how ugly it looks. I can't believe the way some of you hype that game. Both Assassin's Creed and Red Dead Redemption look a lot better.

You are right about the PC comment though. I play mostly on PC and games like The Witcher 2, Alan Wake, Crysis 2 and many other games look better than anything I have played on console.

Persistantthug4437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

We are gonna get console games in 2012 that are going to be more technically advanced than the games in 2011.
This was true for 2011, 2010, and 2009.

Likewise, this will be true for 2013 as well.

Old hardware or not, the console technical advancements will continue....period.

StraightPath4437d ago

it will probably suffer quality wise on the ps3 as it is proven ps3 has trouble running high graphical quality multiplatform games. Even with open world games ps3 does not cope very well. AC3 looks stellar.

Hanif-8764437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

I guess you didn't play LA Noire then because that game looks better on the PS3. However, it all comes down to whether the game is ported over to the PS3 or not. Most multiplatform games were developed on the Xbox360 first then ported over to the PS3. That is why the quality suffers because its a harder process than when its done vice versa. Hence, thats why L.A Noire looks good on both because porting it over to the Xbox360 is an easier process.

Hoje03084437d ago

As already mentioned, inFamous 2 looks better than any other open-world game on consoles.

rhcpfan4436d ago

Infamous 2 has an unbelievable amount of jaggies. Red Dead Redemption is definitely more pleasing to look at...

Outside_ofthe_Box4436d ago

.

Are you saying that if Uncharted were to suddenly go multiplat the PS3 would have trouble running it lol?

It's not the "PS3's fault" it's the developers not wanting to put the extra effort in making the PS3 version on par with the 360's version.

This pretty much confirms that the Nintendo Wii U and PC version will pretty much be next gen.

Im sure the PS3 and 360 versions will do just fine though. They have always been solid looking games.

Rated E For Everyone

Kamikaze1354437d ago

I hope so and I hope they aren't just saying that, just to dumb down the Wii U and PC versions.

Rainstorm814437d ago

I doubt those early games on wii-u will showcase it power, the 1st party games will probably have a visual jump, but with the ports (AC3, Darksiders 2) i doubt the difference will be that substantial

jmac534437d ago

Haha! Wii U is considered next gen. So yeah, it's confirmed.

mokopa4437d ago

ther is no next gen in the PC world. Next gen is a promice that consoles will be like pc, which is impossible.

LX-General-Kaos4437d ago

If you don't believe me, Crytech and Epic games will show you.

GamingTruth4437d ago

im a fool and pc cant run ps3 exclusives, i am clued in to that fact

Pandamobile4437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

There's a big difference between "can't run on", and "not designed to run on", kid.

That's like saying the PS3 can't run N64 or Xbox games.

mokopa4437d ago

All games are developed and tested on PC my friend. the devs just optimise for Ps3's 8 spus. and they are lazy to optimise for pc.

Mrmagnumman3574437d ago (Edited 4437d ago )

What world do you live in ? Consoles games look old nowadays. Pc is a gen ahead, im just stating facts. A gtx 580, is over 10x the power of the ps3 gpu and cell, thats a generation leap. Pc games don't always look a gen ahead, but modded they definitely do. I would say that BF3 on pc looks a gen ahead though. But modded every game destroys console graphics, not to mention we also have 1080p-to 4K+resolution, and 60 fps.

Also here are some images and videos to show you some amazing Next GEN graphics

ZippyZapper4436d ago

Mrmagnumman357 all that time you put in that post and you got 1 agree. :D

TheGrimReaper4436d ago (Edited 4436d ago )

@mokopa:
I had to disagree:
CELL in a PS3 has 7 active SPUs and one of them is dedicated to the system. Devs have 6 SPUs and 1 PPU to play with. (If I can trust Crytek, one SPU is used by the OS for security and an additonal one has to be used partially by the OS [bad design imo, wasting one SPU only for security] source: CryENGINE 3 SDKDOC4 Chapter: PS3 SPU Usage)
And I think "just optimse" doesn't do justice to every dev who really tries. Get it running and optimising are two different things!
And stating that devs are too "lazy to optimise for pc" is rude and ignorant. What should they do in your opinion? Optimise for Intel or AMD CPUs? Should they optimise for Nvidia or AMD GPUs? Should they optimise for 2,4,8,16 or 32 GB RAM? Should they optimise for traditional HDDs or SSDs? etc.

EDIT: Hopefully you didn't mean by stating console games are developed and tested on a PC they would run on them as they are! Console environments are emulated for that purpose and Halo Reach or Uncharted 3 wouldn't run on a PC as they are! Could they if they had to? Of course! Could they look better? Of course! But in reality you need consoles if you want to play these games.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

'Assassin’s Creed III': Ten Years Later

I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.

On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
