Limitations of Skyrim’s dumbed down rivals

InEnt: There have been some suggestions that say Kingdoms of Amalur is actually a better game than Skyrim and while we all have varying tastes, comparing the two would take hours of gameplay footage to look at the many different features. However, if you consider immersion how can any other game compete because with future DLC, Skyrim could become endless or as much as Bethesda wants it to be?

Nothing compares to Skyrim in my opinion.

Can't say about Dragon's Dogma yet, but Dark Souls is more immersive than Skyrim. I only played the demo for Kingdoms of Amalur, but that cartoonish world wasn't immersive at all to me.

What bothers me is that every open world RPG is now being labeled as a "Skyrim rival." KOA sort of set itself up for this sort of comparison with Ken Rolston's comments regarding the two. Yet, KOA is nothing like Skyrim. Not even close. KOA is pretty much a sinlge player MMO with tons of loot, tons of quests, an above standard combat system and enclosed, area based exploration. Really fun game though.

I'm already seeing people comparing Skyrim and Dragons Dogma as rivals. I don't get it.

dude its like this plane an simple if KOA or dragons dogma came out frist people would jus compair them in that manner of pattern. it has nothing to do whats better its down to what is next to step up to the plate. like this, what is played frist is embedded on the human mind to set a standerd. you cant unremmber something so you look for simularitys, just think about every other game. i hope this helped.

i liked the kingdoms of amalur and dark souls more than skyrim, skyrim is pretty boring to me, but dragons dogma is probably my most look forwarded to game this year

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast40d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22940d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko40d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
