Silent Hill HD Collection Delayed for the Sixth Time

Back when the Silent Hill HD Collection was first announced as an exclusive collection for the PS3 releasing in September/October of 2011 I was psyched. The only Silent Hill titles I had played were the original and 4, and every time I would get ready to buy 2 I would force myself to wait. A game this popular has to get an HD remake soon, and then I will have some great, HD frights. As it would happen, this happened the day the collection was announced, which is why I remember this story so well. But now, we have yet another delay to wait on.

If they are going to delay it again then add Silent hill 4.
With original voices please.

dirthurts4451d ago

Better than rushing it out the door.
I'd much rather wait on something that works, than hurry up and have something that's busted.

Take your time.

-totally agree, but i still have to give a long exhaustive sigh.. Ughhhhhhhhhhh.... -_-

I don't know why people keep desiring these HD remakes? why would i want to play a game i enjoyed 10+ years ago ?! when i play it now i won't have as much fun as i did before. for example my favourite game of all times is MGS1. if i played it now i wont get that same feeling because it's outdated in so many aspects. So i just want to keep my memory of it being the best game of all times as it is.I think people wanting this HD remakes is because current games aren't so innovative and gets boring fast.So people tend to go back to playing games they know they enjoyed.

Abdou234451d ago

Which proves my point, people seek memories of their childhood gaming because they don't enjoy nowadays games as mush.maybe because we get older or maybe because they simply aren't as fun.

"I don't know why people keep desiring these HD remakes? why would i want to play a game i enjoyed 10+ years ago ?!"

Well there are a lot of different reasons, but the main one, I guess, is that there are people who have NOT played these games before.
Silent Hill 2 was released in 2001. I was 9 years old at the time. I could say the same about Metal Gear Solid 2. Even the Sly trilogy was among the ones I didn't do as I was busy with Jak and Ratchet at the time, so I'm glad I was able to get my hands on it. And I'm among those who'd rather have a "classic" title remastered to get the most out of it (It is also kind of late to start looking for PlayStation 2 DVDs). I, somehow, have a Silent Hill 3 PS2 copy on my shelf. Couldn't play more than 2 hours because it wasn't comfortable playing on my PS2 anymore (but this only concerns me. Broken controllers, etc...).

The second reason is, as Ramas said, nostalgia. I'm picking up the Jak Collection. Yes, I've already played the trilogy, but I was 13 when I completed Jak 3 and I barely remember anything. Now that I'm 19, I guess it should be a slightly different experience. I'll probably discover things I hadn't noticed before.

I don't think there's anything wrong with current games and not all old titles feel outdated now. I'm playing Metro 2033, I'm looking forward to Bioshock : Infinite, Darksiders 2, etc... But it's all about the experience. And right now I feel like I need to play another platformer after Rayman Origins.

Anyway, I want the Silent Hill Collection to be released as soon as possible because the only SH game I've played is Origins and as far as I'm concerned, this hasn't been the most popular one. I don't care if the graphics look slightly outdated because the atmosphere is what made the game scary and time can not kill that.
Oh and Konami shouldn't have recorded new voices. I'm glad we'll have the option to use SH2's original voices but this won't apply to SH3 and it defeats the purpose of the remaster. How can nostalgia exist if you modify that which makes you feel it.

Kyosuke_Sanada4451d ago

I'm glad you decided to partake in Silent Hill and you luckily chose the prequel which is great so nothing is spoiled. I really suggest you download the original Silent Hill from the PSN to occupy your time until then. It was one of my fave in the series and it follows right after Origins....

Kos-Mos4451d ago

Because the market is full of crap this generation. Thank god for Nintendo, From Software, Monolith, Konami.

Inception4451d ago

@Abdou
Ramas and Croash already pointed up why people want this HD remakes. But another reason why i (or other people) wants HD remakes is because my physical copy of SH 2 & 3 are in bad shape. I own SH 2 & 3 for PC long time ago and when i tried to install them the CD drive can't read the CD. So i'm glad they made HD remakes of SH. And all in one blu-ray with upgrades for graphic and thropies.

DigitalAnalog4451d ago (Edited 4451d ago )

Why is remastering a game an issue to you? In fact, why do we even have blu-ray films when we already have DVD's, VCD's and VHS of the SAME DAMN FILM?

Fact is, games like these have a lot of life left in them that serves:

A) People that has never played them before (such as the poster above)

B) Replaying it when previous bugs, glitches, graphics and frame-rate were not polished back then. (Nostalgia and an upgrade that would not look ugly on their HDTV can be visually appealing as well)

C) Companies that are in risk of losing money due to failed IP and high-budget AAA projects.

As you can see, remastering is entirely OPTIONAL and not mandatory as you would make it out to be. If you don't want to play these games then that is your perogative and keep it to yourself, let others have a chance to relive or experience something they have missed out of.

TheFirstClassic4451d ago

I never played jak and daxter, or metal gear solid 2 and 3, so I got the mgs hd collection and will be getting the jak and daxter hd collection. Btw, I played mgs1 for the first time several months ago, and I thought it was one of the best games I had ever played, even if it is outdated.

I really wish they would have included the original in this package. I'd wait another year for that.

I mostly disagree with Downpour's position. Yeah, the game is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but is much better than the HD Collection and Homecoming. The main issue is the performance, but that was mitigated by the patches, especially on the PS3. Personally, I put it a little behind Origins and The Room.

Having Restless Dreams as a different entry from Silent Hill 2 is also a choice.

bfrye26186d ago

Normally, we would not consider it a different game (Restless Dreams), but since it had a very different critical reception and had new content, it was allowed. As for Downpour, I would agree, but since that one is subjective, we let him make his case for the placement.

gold_drake186d ago

silent hill 2 is definitely the best one out of those.

for me personally, the whole ritual/cult stuff was always so weird to me in all the other games.

CrimsonWing69185d ago

No disrespect but I put SH2 over 1. 1 is fantastic, but 2 took it all up a level.

bfrye26185d ago

We agree, that is why the writer put it in top place!

100% agree! SH2 is undoubtedly a stone cold classic.

gold_drake348d ago

i played a couple of months ago for the first time.

i agree that its a great survival game, but i think the minute u realise you can "kill" them, its takes alot of the initial fear out of it.
the same thing happened to me in Siren Blood Curse.

but its definitely one of the best games, when you start looking into the lore and the symbolism

1nsomniac348d ago

Never played it. I had moved on from PlayStation since then. So looking forward to the remake. Hope it’s not too cheesy tho.

P_Bomb348d ago

Pyramid Head or Red Pyramid. Which do you guys call him?

Pickledpepper348d ago

I've just brought the silent hill collection for the ps2 and absolutely loving it

Knushwood Butt347d ago

Nice.

I have the games, just no PS2.

Pickledpepper347d ago

I have a ps2 for sale and a n64 lol

how is it after the patches? Aren't there also more to come?

Amplitude734d ago (Edited 734d ago )

Did people not like the Mafia 2 remake? I got so into it. Thought it was amazing. Never played the original.

Some of these are fitting but I can't help but feel like the author just has nostalgia for the original Mafia 2 here. Dmc Collection on PS4 is fiiiiine its just a collection of PS2 games and the PS3 performance was not amazing. The point is to just have the PS2 games for a new gen of people. Crysis Remastered is also totally fine and has been patched and updated to death since launch. The original version essentially ran on one CPU core and they couldn't fix it let alone get that running on console/switch so they had good reason to do what they did to boost interest in Crysis before the Crysis 4 announcement

Lots of way worse remasters out there lol GTA, THPS HD, that Mario 3D All Stars trash, etc

jeenyus734d ago

That's the issue, you haven't played the original.
The new one is slightly better looking but it's bugged af by comparison.

So in essence ... 2020 the year of bad remasters

Sounds like a case of quick cash grabs during the pandemic.
