CVG Preview: Sleeping Dogs: 'The best combat you'll get in an open-world game'

Activision's lack of faith in United Front Games' True Crime: Hong Kong might work in Square Enix's favour in the long run.

Having played saviour by rescuing the cancelled title and rebranding it as Sleeping Dogs, the Hong Kong cinema inspired open-world action game is now being developed in conjunction with Square Enix's London studio, which has also worked on brilliant games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum and Just Cause 2.

I did not like the first True crimes, but the new one looks friggin amazing.

deep_fried_bum_cake4458d ago

I thought that New York was awesome but I never played LA. If it's anything like New York then I know I'll love it. The gameplay looks really good.

I've been skipping over the news for this because I forgot about the name change.

Double_Oh_Snap4458d ago

This game looks awesome, lol the gameplay is pretty crazy being an open world game.

This looks pretty amazing for an open world game.

mafiahajeri4458d ago

I agree but this looks great also. Will be great it releasing in the summer draught...

That was my favorite game on Dreamcast and my favorite game console. Sad that it died.

Kalowest4458d ago

WTF, the DC is not dead, some companies make DC games still, and the DC hack community is strong.

Ness-Psi4458d ago

the game is looking good, and can only be better by having the guys who worked on arkham city helping with the game.

rdgneoz34458d ago

Didn't know about the Arkham Asylum people helping out with the game, pretty nice. Hopefully the game does well and teaches Activision a lesson for dropping it.

And if those movie scenes in the video were actually in game cut scenes, then wow. I'm liking the change from cgi cut scenes to an actual movie like cut scene.

Reborn4458d ago

That was just part of their announcement trailer. I doubt its replaced CGI.

Either way, it does look good.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil17d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai17d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing6916d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle16d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal16d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa16d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal16d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

watching the video is better then going through 31 pages of gamingbolt.

LG_Fox_Brazil163d ago

Do they explain in the video why there are two numbers 3? Starfield and Tears of the Kingdom?

It's always refreshing to see games embracing the streaming community.

Bloodborne is a game I still restart and play every few months. I would welcome just a re release in 60fps with a visual upgrade. It's a perfect game. If I was king for a day I would include the randomizer mods because then it would be a kind of rogue like and I could play it forever.

gleepot363d ago

Sure, ill take a sequel to all of these.
