Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning; the most disappointing game ever | Digitally Downloaded

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Without a doubt, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the most disappointing game I’ve ever played. As you’ll see from the score below, it’s not a bad game by any means. It’s just that it is the dictionary definition of disappointing."

lol I believe there are plenty of other games that classify as "disappointing". If anything, Kingdoms of Amalur is a bit of an underdog.

I would agree with you on being an underdog. The game really did suffer from over hype though. But it is a fun game after spending 300+hrs in skyrim and(bugs and all).

Hype!? 3 months ago no knew what KoA was. I was having conversations with myself on here about how good it would be. No one gave a damn about it. Then all of a sudden it gets some much deserved attention and it's overhyped.

I personally think it's an absolute gem. Yeah, the camera's a bit ditsy and the audio's inconsistent but still it's fantastic. Nice that it isn't just a button masher as well. You actually have to block and dodge. I'm all about the Chakrams.

My main tip. Lock the mini-map.

ill have say he didn't play this game properly. I was able to swim in several bodies of water, plus they have loot in the water. Next sneak (finnese) skills in this game are not like Skyrim at all. Sneak really does require activation in the tree. Ive done a lot of close quarters stealth kills. and I'm still in the first 20hrs of the game.

I didn't read the artical because it says the most dissapointing game ever but gives it a 4/5???? just wants hits sounds like to me. Ok I went ahead and read the artical all I can say is it was the dictionarys term for the most dissapointing artical of all time.

I'm about 17 hours in and am not at all disappointed ,the combat in particular is good fun . I really enjoy the fact that i don't get "penalised" for making hybrid classes .

Assass1nN1nja4464d ago

I'm about 15 or more hours in and I enjoy the game immensely.I plan to buy the strategy guide today for it so I can make the best potions and find all the items in the game. The combat is beast and the story is alright for a game that was basically MMO turned RPG. I pre-ordered the game from Gamestop and I have the fate touched weapons, Mass Effect N7 armor, 7 bonus House of Valor Quests, and the costumes for Might, Finesse, and Sorcery. This is the definition of sleeper hit not disappointment. I didn't read the article but I did not have to. IGN gave this game a 9/10. Game Informer a 8/10. I seen perfect scores as well. Most legit game review sites gave this game positive if not very well received scores.

Whats the game like? I've never played a Kingdoms game before. I love rpgs but i currently have no money for this.

lashes2ashes4464d ago

The reason you never played a kingdoms game before is because this is the first one haha. It's really good. I would say this game is what fable could have been. Very very deep gameplay

Bimkoblerutso4464d ago (Edited 4464d ago )

It's basically Fable mixed with MMORPG. It's got great combat and one of the best character building systems around, but as with most MMO's, if you take every quest that pops up it's going to feel a little tedious and mundane. As in, "go here and kill X" or "go here and collect Y." It's a bit strange for a singleplayer game to function the way KoA does.

Still, the story is actually pretty interesting and surprisingly intricate if you take the time to soak it all up. It just suffers from the open-world/MMO curse in that regard too. Unless you focus only on the main quest, the story is going to feel pretty disjointed and unfocused.

Game4life4464d ago

I thought there was a series ahahahah. i feel stupid now. Well I'll look into it. if its anything like Dark souls/demon souls or 90% of the other rpgs I play i will enjoy it

Pintheshadows4464d ago

God of War + Dragon Age + Fable + WoW + Skyrim = Kingdoms of Amalur.

Looking Back at Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

Do you remember the good old days, when video games put fast hack-and-slashing combat sequences and extensive levelling systems first and a deep narrative with memorable characters second? BigHuge Games certainly banked on gamers holding some kind of nostalgia for those titles of yore with their fantasy RPG Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning.

Best action rpg of its generation. Loved it.

Soulst0rmer2367d ago

This deserves to be on Switch

execution172367d ago

Loved the world and combat, just horrible timing for the release tho :/

Matrix62367d ago

Would play a remaster next gen

taijutsu3632367d ago (Edited 2367d ago )

This is hilarious that i would see an article after I went and re-bought the game and playing it all week! I love the QTEs in this game its satisfying, the combat is fluid where you can switch from weapons to magic so easily, the weapons, armor, quests, character customizations, lore, world, voice acting, are all great this game has almost everything you'd need and want from an RPG!

I really wish there was going to be a KoAR 2!

Phoenix Down 49.2 – Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

The journey comes to an end.

InMyOpinion2905d ago

Would LOVE to see a sequel to this brilliant game. Wouldn't mind a remake for current gen systems either.

Hypnotic2904d ago

Last I heard this studio went out of business so I would think a remaster is pretty unlikely.

InMyOpinion2903d ago

Never say never, Darksiders 2 got a remaster.

phantomexe2904d ago

I think EA owns the rights to it now. I loved the game as well. A rare gem overlooked.

rezzah2904d ago

Went into a cave for a mission...Mission glitches and I can't start the mission or exit the cave...Auto save and manual saves are within the cave....I messed up so bad I quit. Really good game though.

hazelamy2904d ago

such a great game, shame about the studio.
to produce something of that quality as their first title, just imagine what they could have done with more experience.
