PS3 Skyrim 1.4 update: does it fix the lag?

OPS Mag: That’s the 1.4 million dollar question. Now, though, it looks like Lagzilla might finally have been put out of its misery, thanks to the new Skyrim 1.4 PS3 patch. Well, ‘might’.

oh yeah, its completely fixed. :)

DarkTower8054484d ago

Nice, it seems that my patience to pick this game up has finally paid off.

AngryTypingGuy4484d ago

It works great for me. I'm about 200 hours in and a level 59 character. My game saves are still 10 MB though but as long as there continues to be no lag, I'm happy.

Pushagree4484d ago

Yes. My 179 hour 17 mb game was so big that lag showed up in minutes. Now the game is much more stable. Too bad I already got the plat.

grailly4484d ago

wow, respect, man. you have some crazy dedication to the game. I stopped playing around a 10mb save.

Solid_Snake374484d ago

finally! Im glad to hear it, im gonna start saving up for Skyrim on ps3

itsallgud4483d ago

Well the article says that after playing for an extended period that the lag comes back. I mean what do you expect from an overpriced internet ready blu ray player? Just play it on PC or the superior Xbox 360 for crying out loud.

"The Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made." --John Carmack

Baka-akaB4483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

why should we care about a quote from Carmack , a pc genius indeed , but wich hasnt released anything memorable on any console ?

Or are you going to pretend that the ports of quake and doom matter on consoles , or that Rage isnt something decent but already forgotten ?

You are scrapping the bottom of the barrel with your quote . Wake us up when actual and major actors in console gaming says so

Solid_Snake374483d ago

@Itsallgud, i threw up a few times after reading your comment. Thanks

Is that sarcasm? People usually put smiley faces after sarcastic comments...

dredgewalker4484d ago

Lol, that's a good one. To be honest I got the pc version since I don't really trust Bethesda with PS3 ports. Hopefully this fixes every problem the PS3 version has and also fix their reputation.

MagicAccent4484d ago

Lol, and I just started playing Skyrim on the PC.

Oh well..

SilentNegotiator4484d ago

Then I'll enjoy the "GOTY" edition....

HardCover4484d ago

This post is for those people who never actually read the article, and will complain because of that. Might save the rest of us some headaches:

“The 1.4 patch for Skyrim includes many performance-enhancing updates for the PlayStation 3. A few important things to note:

1. To ensure the fastest jump in performance after applying the patch, be sure to first create a new manual save by entering the save menu and choosing “save game.” You should then restart your PlayStation 3 before continuing to play.

2. If you encounter strange behaviour while playing immediately following application of the patch, do not be alarmed – this is a temporary effect of Skyrim scripts correcting themselves after the update. Once this process runs its course, be sure to make a new save and restart your PlayStation 3.”

frostypants4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

My game had next to no issues before the patch. The patch completely hosed my game up.

Bring on the nonsense disagrees, but this is what happened to me. I have more lag than ever. 25% of the time when I'm trying to loot corpses, I get a good 10-15 seconds of lag.

GameLogix4483d ago

13MB save file, lv 40 mage.

Two 6 hour sessions. Yes, the patch fixes the lag. But had to make another save file so maybe that's why I'm good, and some others experience lag after long periods of time. They never followed the instructions after installing the patch.

Huh, didnt know it was out. Thats great to hear!

Havent played it in a while, left it to give other games a chance i.e. BF3 & MGS HD Collection, but the game is so huge its gonna be hard to get back into the swing of things.

N311V4484d ago

Nah you'll get straight back into the swing of things. I typically don't stop playing a game till I finish it but Skyrim is too huge for me to do that. With Skyrim I play in between other game releases, it's surprising how quickly I can get back into it.

OcelotRigz4483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

You're probably right.
I usually split my gaming between a singleplayer game and multiplayer game, but once you get stuck into Skyrim its like the black hole of gaming, just takes away all your gaming time. So to prevent missing out on other games, i had to give it a break for a while.

ReservoirDog3164484d ago

Haha, yay. Now I can start considering to get it.

Arts10004484d ago

My Game ......... 14mb file has dropped to 12 and the game is playing smoother . A lot smoother . I have only played the new patch for an hour or two so lets give it 20 more hours and see.

Note: I have to wonder what parts of the game have been chopped ...... to create a smaller save file .

Resistance_lord4484d ago

They Didn't Cut Anything out. They used a healing spell and it fixed the lag

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast46d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22946d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko46d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave46d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan46d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
