You have to hand it to Valve and Blizzard when it comes to people remembering games. I think games from both those companies are legends. They simply just dont die, its as if they were immortals, laughing and surpassing every mortal game that comes and has its time in the limelight.

Imo games like Starcraft, SC2, CS, TF2, Warcraft 3, World of warcraft are simply legendary.

Tanir4466d ago

Lol. Ur kiddin right. They make no games besides the ones u listed . Wow I guess. Counts but the rest. Nah . They r good but forgetable. Heck diablo 3 looks like. nd plays like a ten year old game Nd has stripped features. It's opinion tho I guesses

reynod4466d ago (Edited 4466d ago )

Correction they dont milk their franchises like certain other companies do.

Recently released valve games:

Left4dead series- perhaps the most fun coop fps out there.

Portal 2- another freaking amazing game.

Upcoming valve games:

Dota 2
CS go

Blizzard:

Diablo 3

I can bet you those 3 games are gonna last 5-10 years atleast perhaps beyond. I started playing Dota few months back and i cant get enough of that game.

There are thousands of people playing the games i listed above, if you think you can name any other games that are about a decade old and still have such a huge base of people playing, go on be my guest.

@reynod

Blizzard doesn't milk their games!? LOL!!
How about, lets say, WoW. That in itself is milking the warcraft franchise, and is further milking itself by releasing piss poor expansions one after another, charging money for each and every one of them, unlike other companies who release free expansions for their mmo's.
In reality though those expansions aren't free, as you pay a subscription to pay for development costs for expanding the game. Which makes Blizzard huge douchebags for charging monthly fees AND additional payment for their expansions, milking YOU.

You are very right about Valve and Blizzard - they know how to make you car about their games.

Almost every one of their games occupies a special piece of my brain and love.

If only they made games a little faster... :P

Call of Duty will be remembered. So far shows no signs of decline.

Voxelman4465d ago

Every one since 4 has been forgettable, being popular doesn't mean it will be remembered in 20 years.

Just because Fifa and Madden is huge, doesn't mean that you remember Fifa '07

snipes1014465d ago

Call of Duty's success will be remembered, not the characteristics of each experience in each entry (after 4). I know I can't name anything that really happened in MW2 or 3 minus a few things, whereas I can remember just about everything in 4.

Skyrim will be remembered. Oblivion will not. The difference between those two games is that Oblivion is awful and Skyrim is fantastic. Morrowind and Skyrim will be the only games in TES series to be remembered when the years pass (Unfortunately, as good as Arena and Daggerfall are, they won't be remembered because they were not nearly as popular).

FCOLitsjustagame4465d ago

I loved Daggerfall and will always remember it. Walking through the snow, lost in the forest while snowed into my dingy old apartment (good times good times) The greater audience will probably remember Skyrim the way they remember Morrowind and be waiting for the next Elder Scrolls game because of it. I agree with KFox109 that Oblivion will not be remembered as much because it was not as good.

For blizzard games that reynod declared the most memorable I remember starcraft (still own it) and Diablo (only really remember the cows) but thats about it. I know I played other games of theirs but dont remember them. Valve? What are they known for except for people asking for another Half Life (a game I never could get myself to finish...but it was pretty old by the time I tried to play it)? I dont think I have ever finished any of their games...but I could be wrong and just dont remember it.

I agree MW3 wont be remembered, but only because MW comes out too often so its like Madden, they all blur together. Batman, I havent even played the last one yet but thought the first one was a bit overrated (boss fights were a letdown). The last AC... too many games before getting to what they consider AC3 so I agree it will be forgotten as just fancy DLC for AC2.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood memorable? I am pretty sure I played it. I played the first two and that was two right? I recall it being fun but I couldnt tell you any specifics.

Thus I conclude it is all opinion (which actually the writer kind of says in his intro). The things in the article are not memorable to THAT guy. The blizzard/Valve stuff is memorable to reynod. Other games like ME, Gears, Morrowind, Daggerfall, and the First Chronicals of Riddick are memorable to me.

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast23d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22923d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko23d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
