Rumour: Assassin's Creed 3 to be set during the American Revolution

The next Assassin's Creed game might be headed to American soil, according to a new, unconfirmed report from CVG. It pegs the forthcoming Assassin's Creed III — or whatever Ubisoft will call this year's planned installment — as set during the American Revolution.

I have nothing against this idea

Bioshocking4474d ago

Im actually wondering why AC3 will be taking place in the American Revolution.

I have nothing against the idea, my question is how does it fit with the story?

After how Revelations ended, I thought that we would have a modern day creed, since it seemed like Desmond had no need to step back into the Animus.

Well, I love this franchise, and I hope to see more in the future

Nitrowolf24474d ago (Edited 4474d ago )

I thought AC3 was going to be the last in the main trilogy for Desmond. It would only make sense to have it in modern times (Desmond time at least), unless of course they plan on doing what they did for 2.

Bioshocking4474d ago

@ Nitrowolf

Maybe, but it does not make any sense as to why Desmond would step back into the animus. I mean, he has learned everything he needed from Ezio and Altair. The need for a new past day assassin would not make any sense in terms of story.

New assassins are awesome in gameplay, but with how Ubi crafted this story, I am not entirely sure

AntoineDcoolette4474d ago

This same rumor was around before AC2 brotherhood and revelations

Krew_924474d ago (Edited 4474d ago )

I thought they said it was going to be based in Germany?

So many rumors, so little time. Lol.

peowpeow4474d ago

**Possible Spoiler**

Don't they have to locate the temples?
Then ultimately find the one where all is stored (as said in Revelations ending by Jupiter). If this is the case I'd assume they need the animus

Bioshocking4474d ago

Ok, I did some digging and this is what I can tell will occur during the story of Assassin's Creed 3.

Im still not sure about the setting, but I am sure about the future occurrences.

SPOILERS

1)Based on how Revelations ended, Desmond and the rest have traveled to the temple, and the point where the first civilization lost everything, so the game should start you out around there
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

2) If you played The Da vinci disappearance, the apple gives off this sequence 43, 39, 19, N, 75, 27, 42, W.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

These are actually co-ordinates, when entered in google earth, it takes you to this hole in the ground
http://xboxoz360.files.word...

This location exists in real life and is located in Glenfield, New York.

This could possibly be the place were Assassins Creed Revelations ended.

3) The Templars have located William Miles, and are en route to the location were AC:R ended. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Amoungst them is a very notable character named Daniel Cross, the main character from Assassin's Creed:The Fall, the comic that followed the Russian Assassin. He is notable as he was a templar sleeper agent implanted into the Assassin order, and destroyed it from the inside. Daniel could be an antagonist.

This is why I don't see this game taking place during the Revolution, unless there was one assassin who had done something important, but I doubt it as that would kind of ruin that flow between Altair, Desmond, and Ezio.

And considering the fact that Ubisoft has been planning the Desmond Story to end in the year 2012 (do not be surprised if the game's release date is December 21'st 2012)

It is a Friday, and since Skyrim came out on a Friday, I assume this will be the release date...

But on topic, this game is meant to end the Desmond story arc, adding a new character might ruin the flow, and once again rob Desmond of the limelight in his own story.

So my guess may be that you are Desmond in modern time New York City... according to the story, this seems the most logical.

Also to everyone complaining about the possible setting of America, Ubisoft fully came out and said, that once they are done with the Desmond story, they will see what timelines and places the fans would like to see, and then would make that game.

The game coming out this year is Assassins Creed 3. That is 100% positive. The setting is unconfirmed, so we don't know.

Man, this story is really exciting to me, and I look forward to more details for AC3

joab7774474d ago

It isn't the story that worries me. The American revolution is perfect with the Illuminati, the Masons and templars. I'm not sure how the assassins fit in unless they are trying to help britian maintain superiority and stop the templars/Masons or illuimati from getting up this country.

My problem is the environment. It is vastly different from previous entries. There were few big cities and buildings in which the protagonist would b climbing etc. And it is very spread out. It will b so different unless there are various locations including Europe. I dunno but i love the story. As far as end game scenarios, u can't get there without addressing this story. Our birth was HUGE.

SnotyTheRocket4474d ago

I'm thinkin' half animus/half Desmond...... <-----good idea

Ares84HU4474d ago

They couldn't find a most boring place in History.

I bet you anything that they want to connect the assassins with the free masons.

No imagination.

jeseth4474d ago

Ubi needs to take some time to really come back strong with AC.

AC2 was awesome, I feel like the two spinoffs since are just ... "eh".

I hope if they are really coming out with AC3 that they are putting in a great new story and I'd even be open to a whole new character line and screw the jumping back and forth with the Animus.

Just make a great plot and setting. Screw the jumping back and forth with the Animus. To me it always interrupted the flow of the game.

The setting in the Animus isn't as important as Desmond. It's been 7 or 8 games in the series(including handhelds) and DLC as well. The 2nd character was a damn trilogy. I really want to know the purpose and story behind Desmond. He is brushed under and should now have all the tools he needs to complete this FINAL CHALLENGE. So I hope that AC-III is like 30-40% Animus and 60-70% Desmond in the real world. I really am so interested in the truth outside the'matrix' if I may.

Canary4474d ago

I have many things against the idea.

First and foremost is a matter of setting--America is new, and (particularly early on) our cities were small, short hovels. Can you imagine playing an Assassin's Creed game where the tallest buildings are 3 stories high?

I don't see it happening.

An American Revolution setting would require a more rural game world... wherease all of the previous games have utilized (and, in fact, require) densely populated urban settings.

Simply put: it wouldn't work.

And, of course, there are other reasons I won't get in to. Of all the "ideas" bandied back and forth, I think Victorian London and Revolutionary Paris hold the most potential.

QuodEratDemonstrandm4474d ago

So at worst, it would look like San Gimignano, except without all the towers. At best: Manhattan island, 1773, had a population of over 6000. So no great big skyscrapers, but they weren't in six foot mud huts either. The buildings will be fine. No worse than the ones in Rome or Forli.

And, this was about the time when muskets started giving way to rifles. The first sniper was a revolutionary soldier.

ReservoirDog3164474d ago

And China. Didn't anyone buy AC Embers?

Jpm2244474d ago

@QuadEratDemonstrandm I might be wrong but I don't believe muskets began to be phased out until after the civil war. The "snipers" you're talking about were just expert marksmen using modified muskets. As far as I know, world war 1 was the first conflict where rifles were the standard issue weapon for all armies.

Shackdaddy8364473d ago

Well you could have part of it in the colonies and part of it in london at that same time. It's not like all the important people that require assasinating sailed to the colonies during the revolution...

snipes1014474d ago

If this is the case, it would be the first time I ever was interested in a Creed game enough to buy one since the first game.

CommonSense4474d ago

I have something against another Assassin's Creed in general. They've really milked the AC formula to death.

OcularVision4474d ago

Really? Have you even played the games? Just because they release 1 a year, doesn't mean they've milked it to death. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

CommonSense4474d ago (Edited 4474d ago )

of course i played them. and what a stupid thing to say.

they are exactly the same since 2. they just added new weapons and some convoluted extra features like training assassins and spending money on a city to get more money that you don't know what to do with later.

AC2 was great (100%'d it), Brotherhood was more of the same, Revelations was nauseatingly boring.

fine if you, like most gamers apparently, enjoy doing the same thing over n over. there are TONS of games that'll cater to that mind-numbing mentality...and this is one of them. I'm just not one of those people. I like originality and risk taking.

EDIT: now you'll say, "nuh uh, it's different cuz they added counters." lol, ugh.

OcularVision4474d ago

They didn't change the formula of it because they didn't need to. They could still make a fantastic story with the gameplay mechanics they already have.

Go troll somewhere else please.

spartan_dx4474d ago

The point in me playing the series has always been story first its not like a shooter with a tacked on story.

thedude444474d ago

great, its time for something fresh even though i think assassins creed rocks the way it is.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI4474d ago

I'm thinking it won't have anything to do with the animus anymore. I mean at the end Desmond said that he knew what he had to do. It'd be great if the new game was as expansive as the whole of AC2 series, and covered desmond becoming a master assassin himself now.

MasterD9194474d ago

This was speculation a few months back...Sounds like it may actually be happening.

Impressive if true.

SpaceFox4474d ago

That would be great, a really interesting time period in my opinion. I imagine the map will be huge.

When will you decommission this new one? I’m only asking so I can be happier by not buying it at full price.

bunt-custardly604d ago

The dog Chorizo from FAR CRY 6 has wheelchair legs, so is hardly a decommissioned pet. In fact very useful for digging up dirt.

Historic Eras that Video Games Need to Explore

Xfire writes "Worldbuilding is a crucial part of any story. It's not an easy task to create a believable setting with its own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations and then weave a story into the said setting. Luckily, storytellers and video game writers don't always need to create complex settings when we've got history books as thick as Big Chungus.

Historical eras make a fabulous setting for video games. They've already got the world-building nailed, complete with their own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations. Honestly, I don't think I need to justify the fact that historical eras make an amazing setting for video games. If you don't believe me, just go ahead and play the Ghost of Tsushima or any of the Assassin's Creed games."

sourOG1138d ago

The first crusade would be pretty sweet. I’d probably enjoy any of those on your list if they were done respectfully. Like not some dork in Portland making a Russian Revolution game.

Benin Empire, Far East, Central America. Games are pretty biased toward Europe, North America, and the Middle East. There is a very big world out there.
