I'm not really a Japanese animation fan. However, I'm western and I like the japanese art style in DMC, I feel it's just right compared to the western version. The same can be said when I played the first Ninja Gaiden.

Now that I think of it, when it comes to fast paced games like DMC and Ninja Gaiden, Japanese animation fits best, but when it comes to slower games like God of War and Batman: AC. Western animation fits best. That's just my opinion.

i'm not a huge DMC fan, but even i hate this new character design. Ninja Theory needs to swallow their pride and listen to what the fans want. remember when fans didn't like the new Cole in infamous 2? well the devs listened to them and changed him back to what he originally was.

ninja theory might be talented devs, but they shouldn't be so conceited as to how they should handle this game.

EDIT: also how does it being westernized make it more functional? Western/Japanese games both have their merits, one isn't better the other. that's like saying western RPGs are better than JRPGs, although that's more of a subjective opinion.

Gameplay may not be extremely intuitive, but they pass for decent! Where Ninja Theory has always thrived was Story and cinematic presentation. And they've got 2 games to show for it. Enslaved and Heavenly Sword have some of the best in cinematographic production and story! It's very tangible! And i think the most DmC stand to benefit from is those 2 areas. Because to be quite honest the DMC franchise is one big convoluted mess of a story! The games rocked because it was super stylized and cool it was over the top and quirky! Story was never a DMC strong point. Even DMC4 which had the strongest story of them so far is a mess!

I'm a fan of NT's work, I just wish they'd stop being so conceited and arrogant! They have talent but there lead producer is really making them look crazy! They don't need to be so sloppy because they have been granted an opportunity to work on a popular genre innovating franchise!

The gameplay in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved unfortunately don't pass as decent. (Heavenly Sword) Mashing buttons to close mid and far range attacks against samey waves of enemies for 4 hours while being tortured by twing twang and other monotonous activities is what I would call poor. (Enslaved)Awful auto-platforming, derivative combat, 2nd class shooting and pathetic escort at its core, Enslaved was also passable for its gameplay.

As for story - HS - A sword that is killing the protagonist as she uses it but for some reason, the rule temporarily does not apply so that she can finish off the bad guy.

Enslaved - Journey to the West set in a post apocalyptic world. I can do the same thing - what about Pocahontas set in a post apocalyptic world? BOOM - awesome story - check.

Ninja Theory like people to believe they are more clever and talented than they really are. In actuality the studio is run by a pompus jackass that knows just about as much about gaming as he does about tact.

Capcom is the one behind the new look. Capcom wanted a reboot. NT did what they were hired to do, they couldnt change dante if they wanted (and they tried i think). I myself dont like the new dante as much but the game itself looks way better. Dmc was getting old and stale imo. 4 wasnt even worth the 10 bucks i spent on it. NT are one of the most underrated (and hated) dev's out there. Heavenly Sword was an awesome launch game and Enslaved was one of my fav games ever. I have high hopes for this game.

1. It's not MGS it's MGR a new series going a different direction. Because of that you can almost look at it as non-canon.

2. It's not the same because they said right in the beginning it's a spin-off. It isn't a replacement of the entire MGS franchise. Kojima is working on a new game right now that could be a new MGS5.

If a company wants to do something different then doing a spin-off is how you do it. As long as it's not replacing the original series then I'm fine with it.

DmC doesn't even know what it is and looking at Crapcom's track record if this game fails then this series is completely dead.

Also at least MGS had a proper ending. The DMC storyline had holes that could have easily been filled in a new game, but they instead drop them all together.

they kept the metal gear name meaning they are leeching off the famous name. Nobody would've given a damn if it was called Raiden Rising:Revengeance which is a much more suitable name. So non-canon or spin-off does not give them a free pass on the nonsense the game is looking like.

Also in case you didn't realise I am against the direction Ninja Theory is going with DMC and fans have a right to complain and criticize, as I mentioned above.

Finally spin-offs only work if you are using side characters, its pretty hard or illogical to make a spin-off with the main character of a series so that's where reboots come in. Some series need it and some don't, then there are those like DMC in which it can be done but we have a case where they F@#$ed it up badly.

He doesn't just have a new haircut, he's been completely redesigned, so much so in fact that he is no longer the iconic Dante the fans want and have come to expect, I don't know about you but if Naughty Dog suddenly decided to hand over Uncharted to a 3rd party dev and let them turn Drake into some sparkly Twilight Vampire who's face mite crack if he smiled for a second, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be defending the devs responsible even if all you saw had been a short trailer, and that in essence is what is happening to Dante thanks to NT.

From what Ive seen, most of the fans have been acting perfectly reasonable in response to what NT are doing to the franchise, and many of us have already stated they disagree with any sending of death threats as it's detrimental to our cause.

Acting childish and unreasonable is no way to get NT to understand how the core fans feel, but that goes both ways, NT have stated many times they don't care what the fans want, they are making the game they want to make regardless, I think fans that have supported a franchise for over a decade have a pretty good idea of what the game should look and play like, and this isn't it.

Ive judged the game based on the huge amount of info already available to me, I know I dislike the way this Dante looks, acts, smokes, the atmosphere in the trailers is all wrong and I don't like the music or the layering the music combo system they are trying to use (I found that one really stupid), I know I dislike the fact NT are messing with the story making him a half demon/angel instead of a half human/demon, I dislike the shift into 30 fps from the necessary 60 fps (were not playing God of War here) DMC fight mechanics need to be tight, no Devil trigger in DMC... Seriously? Oh but we do have that special technique, you know the one that makes his hair white and his coat bright red, like the old Dante had, the one that looked stupid according to NT...I could go on but why bother?.

This was never about preventing the franchise from evolving, hell I know fans who are dying to see the franchise take a big step forward, but this isn't it, this is just a dev on their last legs trying to make some cash by sticking the name of a well established franchise on the game they stubbornly want to make, and it's back firing because they don't understand that no game in any franchise can succeed if you ignore the fans, just what nonsense will they come out with when it does bomb I wonder, probably (Oh boo hoo, the fans didn't give us a chance, its all their fault the game bombed because they didn't want to play the game they don't like the look of) yeah well maybe if NT actually pay attention to our concerns we could fx that and warn them before they step of the edge of that cliff.

They just changing the way Dante Looks. We don't know much about the fighting mechanic yet, and from the look of couple previous videos, it still have that similar looks. DMC is about stylize fighting mechanic and if that is gone, well, that won't be DMC.

Your example that SF changes their fighting mechanic to DOA. That is entirely different story. What u see with the new DMC is like a new skins DLC for SF games. It may looks different, but the fighting is still the same. Does having different RYU skins change SF game entirely? It doesn't.

What if they bring back Virgil (before he fall to prince of darkness) in this game, then everyone would go nuts. It is possible because this is a younger version of Dante, even younger than DMC3 version, right?

That is what DMC need, a great rivalry like Danta Vs. Vergil.

The fighting mechanic is simple, Dante's changing morphing scythe that brings his enemies to him=Nero's Devil Bringer.

30 FPS=Slow choppy gameplay.

Old moves from the older games when they said gameplay will be fresh=No fresh gameplay just the same with slower button input

have u played DMC3? c'mon, Dante also have the time freezes moves that he learn from that dam horse. Even the trigger looks similar when he activate time freezes in DMC3. So why it is boring now? Slow motion tend to make things look more interesting than they truly are.

The old team (lead guy) already moving on, so there is nothing capcom can do about it. It is not like they can just reassemble the same team with ease.

And from the videos, i still see signature moves that are well known in DMC as well as the dual guns play. Based on those same videos, i don't see any gameplay/battle mechanic that resemblance NT old games like Enslave or Heavenly sword either. Beside the more colorful approach, i don't see any thing else that similar.

@Baodeus, Actually the "DT" That you are referring to in Devil May Cry 3 is called Quicksilver. The Quicksilver Style is a time-controlling style that is obtained from Geryon. It allows Dante to move at lightning quick speeds relative to enemies and the environment, allowing him to experiment with different tactics and combos.

Nice Try on trying to get me, but if you actually played DMC 3 you would've known that it was Quicksilver style, heck it even says that in the video.

Hahaha you sound stupid, oh course I know that you can stay in the air for more than 5-10 sec heck even 15 mins. It's known that launching and air combat is part of combat in the games but NT is making it a priority to emphasize on Air combat more in favor than all around combat. Don't try and make me sound like I don't know what I am talking about with this game. When half of the videos that are posted of the new game its Dante in the air pulling enemies toward him stuck in one place doing attacks, no double jump, no different styles, just slash, grab the opponent repeat.

That's almost saying that in the all the Resident evil games including the new one that it's cool that a horde of zombies are running at you but its okay, I will stand in one spot shooting at the horde to kill them all. The air combat looks absolutely basic is all im saying, no depth. Heh go play Heavenly Sword and let me know how button mashy it is, because the combos that are in set are terrible to put in because of the terrible lag that NT has put in for the game.

I must admit the 1st video of Dante doing the air combo is crazy the longest I have stayed in the air is probably 30-45 sec. but not because I can't because there is so much more that Dante can do with his different styles that air combat is not at the top of the list at all.

There isn't any differences between QUICKSILVER STYLE and the new DMC5 devil trigger; one is moving faster, one is making the enemy slower. So how the end results are different? The trigger even look the same (white out screen).

Air combo is harder to pull off than ground like that 1st video u saw (that needs skills and training). Hey maybe this time, air combo would be easy for those that want to do it, but it doesn't mean there isn't any ground combo (because u see plenty of those too).

If you look back at DMC4, Nero is practically doing the same thing with devil arm except Dante using a cythe instead in DMC5. There is no difference.

how do u know it won't have double jump, different styles, etc...you already have the game? Hints, look at the first trailer, Dante still using the trickster style when he jump off the building.

And for the 30fps, why suddenly it is so important for this game? Like i said, most game do ran at 30fps this gen, and they are doing fine. When game like Rage/CoD running at 60fps, people on n4g actually hated it because of what, it doesn't look good? almost all of your complaints are based off of you assuming you know what every single level is like and you already know how the enemy AI is programed, last i checked they have only shown off a couple levels dude and a few enemies. beyond that your other major complaint is the frames, which 60 feels faster and tighter, ill agree to that, but i have not played very many games where they suck just becuase they're not 60 frames, thats a stupid argument to make.

See you're thinking that frames aren't important when they are .. fluidity in a action game is very important.. and that was a main point of DMC . You do know that there were combo tournaments of DMC ? Frame cancelling was the key of those tournaments and all those vids you can still find on youtube.
SO yeah complaining about the lack of fluidity is not a joke..Even without tournaments, learning to cancel was the key to complete the dante must die modes and other challenges.( in dmc 4 for example )

Enslaved has platforming on rails with no skill involved nor you are even allowed to fail... iF THAT'S YOUR STYLE , then fine .. but it certainly isn't what people who played the previous DMCS want.

No one cares about UC's platforming , wich is bare minimal and actually mediocre . Everyone is under the charm of the games , because besides that it got a great chemistry of core cover/shot gameplay and a great cinematographic feel .

UC was never as "press or mash button to win" worthy as say Enslaved or Heavenly sword .

2. Yes, Dante's looks are also an issue. And that isn't a petty reason in my opinion. Character design is a big part of what makes characters memorable and iconic so of course fans will be pissed if that design gets an overhaul. People would be just as mad if Mario was given a mullet and a business suit. Or if Solid Snake was turned into a blonde Fabio lookalike with a Russian accent who no longer liked to smoke cigarettes.

3. Nothing in the new DMC game seems to have any of the charm of the original Devil May Cry games. It looks like a decent action game but where is the charm? The wit? The cocky one-liners? The silly air guitar solos and hilariously over the top poetry readings? It just looks so bland and generic. The whole point of the DMC series was that Capcom were tired of boring broody Japanese heroes so they decided to make a hero who was silly, fun and loud. In a world that was silly, fun and loud.
The new game doesn't seem to have any of that.

People hate it for a lot of reasons. The first reason was the catalyst for what followed, and that's that Dante looks horrible. It isn't about him being "a rebel" or whatever his circumstances are, it's that he looks like Tameem Antoniades and Tameem is trying to make him (or himself) look like a pasty faced British punk. The kind of guy that the original Dante would laugh at, or the original Virgil would be embarrassed to be related to.

What followed next is wave after wave of bad ideas for the game and I'll do my best to tell you why people hate it.

For one, the game is not in any way canon. It has NOTHING to do with the Devil May Cry universe and yet is trying to cash in on the established name and fan following of the original series. Also, the very arrogant developers seem to think that, despite it's disassociation and complete lack of anything from the original series, people will accept it into canon as part of the DMC universe. Nice try Ninja Theory, but no we won't.

Second, the developers. Their pedigree is nothing to be proud of. Heavenly Sword was a masterpiece of artistic creativity, but as a game was mediocre. Enslaved was pitiful. Ninja Theory have shown themselves to be incapable of creating the kind of combat mechanics necessary for a game like Devil May Cry. Fans are worried about how watered down the combat will be because of Ninja Theory. They are also arrogant for no reason, and have a well-documented tendency to blame everyone but themselves when their games don't perform well in reception. They're insulting, dismissive of fans, and seem to want people to hate them.

Third, the overall gameplay and ideas. Dante is half-demon, half-angel, yet is pretty much human until he uses those "powers." What? So is he 1/3 of each then? DmC has taken a performance hit in the framerate which is a trademark staple of the original series. Went from 60fps to 30fps, likely because of the use of the the Unreal Engine 3, the most overused engine that tends to underperform A LOT. The morphing weapon. That's self-explanatory. The combat appears to be a lot slower and is definitely intended to be more "accessible."

I only touched the tip of it really. But the notion that it's just because Dante looks like an emo Twilight reject is completely false. That was only the start of what's wrong with this game.

As one of the six people who actually bought Enslaved, I can safely say I will not be buying anymore of their games. Sure it looked nice, but that was it. It had undeveloped characters, impossible to fail at game play, combat that was moronic at best and a story that was utterly lame. It was a nice shiny golden turd. This was the game they claimed was going to give Uncharted a run for it's money. Please.

I don't know about that man, if the game does sell horribly Capcom might get the impression that no one cares about DMC as a franchise. I know they've certainly not addressed back to the fans in a manner that would please them unlike Kojima Productions on MG Rising, "Kojima tells fans to be patient for a stealth MGS". All they've given is reassurance that they are heavily involved in the reboot, instead of telling fans no we haven't thrown DMC Universe A out of a window.

The fans want the series to continue they just want a continuation of the old story, not a new one.
