Lightning as a party member? getting that dlc

NegativeCreep4274477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

for this disappointing RPG would be better used towards the purchase of Mass Effect 3.

Let me preempt all the radical "You're an Xbox Fanboy. You love Western RPGs. You hate Japanese RPGs" comments right now...Mass Effect is a great IP in its own right and ME 3 is coming out for PS3, and not just Xbox 360.

KillaManiac4477d ago

Normally you should give a legit reason before spouting stuff like this and then counter fanboy talk.

NegativeCreep4274477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

What is your idea or expectation of a "legit reason"?

Have I in some way offended you? Despite the fact that my comment was not geared toward you...unless you're a fanboy in denial.

D3mons0ul4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Why ME3 specifically? why not be relevant and suggest a JRPG? Why are you being so irrelevant? It's making you look stupid.

Off topic nonsense

NegativeCreep4274477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Why not ME3???

Is it against N4G policy to compare Western RPGs against Japanese RPGs??? How is that irrelevant? Why don't N4G users like you just take the extra step and say it is irrelevant to compare PS3 games against Xbox 360 or Wii games??? Is that not "relevant" according to your apparent parameters?

Or is it that just unofficial N4G fanboy policy?

D3mons0ul4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Sorry, I guess I should have said "remotely" relevant, because what you posted is not.

Relevance is discussing FF13 in a FF13 article, it would have been off topic to suggest another JRPG but at least you would have still been on the ball field.

So I ask again, why didn't you suggest a JRPG instead? Do you not like JRPGs? IF you don't then I don't really see the point in you commenting on this article. That would pretty much just make you a troll.

"Is it against N4G policy to compare Western RPGs against Japanese RPGs???"

No but it's something that's frowned upon.

Simon_Brezhnev4477d ago

ME will probably be ok but it doesnt have anything on The Witcher 2 which is also coming to 360. ME3 is probably just like ME2 shoot, cover, and tell team mate what to do. lol

Yeah this DLC is bs though. Its funny how they have Lightning on the cover but not a party member.

MaxXAttaxX4476d ago

BECAUSE people looking to play a JRPG are not looking to play a WRPG. Simple.

That's why "not ME3".

@Emmettcelticfan

And with that Square Enix got exactly what they wanted out of you...

Seriously, Final Fantasy has always been about having everything in the package day one. Not this DLC garbage. Now we have to pay for secret bosses and things that could have come with the game. If this is supported by enough people Square will think this is okay and do that with all their future games. It ruins half the fun of "finding" the secret bosses and beating them. The reason I enjoyed Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games is that the have secret bosses and other things in the game day one. I dont have to pay for my secret bosses.

With this news they have lost me as a buyer of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Canceling my pre-order tomorrow.

iamtehpwn4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

I'm guessing you haven't been a Final Fantasy or KH fan for too long, but This isn't too different from Final Fantasy International or Kingdom Hearts: Final mix. You may not have heard of them, as they're Japanese only games, but square would actually add lots of new content to FF or KH games and then re-release them, making you buy an entirely new full priced disc to get the content.

Examples:
http://www.rpgamer.com/game...
http://ps2.ign.com/objects/...
http://kingdomhearts.wikia....
http://kingdomhearts.wikia....

At least now this content is coming to NA/PAL regions without us having to buy or import a new Disc like so many people did before, such as myself, being such a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, that I imported Kingdom Hearts II final mix.

PamPoovey4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Yeah but the "Final Mix" thing only happens in Japan and even then it's long after the games release. In fact it's not too differen't from games getting a GOTY edition over here....least with games such as KH Final Mix the content are brand new and you get to play everything together in one go. Then theres the fact that the content wasn't anything which was going to be added to the overall games story, which would be a p*ss take if you already thought you've understood everything about the story.

Trust me if the whole DLC thing was going on when KH2 was out then yes, they would probably bring the Final Mix version out as DLC, but I bet Square would chop it up into smaller content so people would be paying more for it then they should be paying, and I wouldn't want that....I bet you wouldn't want that aswell.

Still DLC should never come to a FF game, knowing how long Square takes with their games this obviously has been taken out of the game and kept as DLC.

I guess Square are really getting to grips with how to, not only run a company into the ground, but also how to copy the western market with the whole DLC thing. Yeah I know every developer does it now but FF is that one game I can remember for being packed with content and something like this (and the weapon DLC) is something I probably would of seen as already in game content.

Godmars2904477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

My main bone of contention with this is that Lightening is a literal goddess by XIII-2. It makes as much sense to have her as a playable character as Bahamut - and apparently she can summon him on a whim.

Edit:
I take it back: this could be a paradox Lightening from an alternate timeline.

Still does F**k-all for the plot. If there had been one in the first place.

KeybladeMaster4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

@iamtehpwn

I have been a Kingdom Hearts fan since day one and have every game (including all of the Final Mixes) and have been playing Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy VI. Don't belittle me and say I haven't been a "real" fan or that I haven't been a fan for that long. Even so with the international editions and Final Mixes both series still have secret bosses and extra hard things you can fight without paying for anything except the disk.

What I am saying is that all this extra content should be included on disks on day one like previous games in Square's long history. I cannot believe you, who seems like a very reasonable and intelligent person, would defend this kind of action from Square Enix. Do you want Square nickle and diming you for every little thing that they can? Well that's what they are doing here.

Just because I don't want to be nickle and dimed for everything doesn't make me less of a fan of Square's games, it just shows that I am not blinded by my love of Square to accept things like this.

Plus as I remember beating them, Kingdom Hearts : Birth by Sleep had several secret bosses you can fight... on the damn UMD!!! Not as DLC. And Final Fantasy VIII and X had secret summoning's/Aion's that you fought in order to get. What if you had to pay for them in order to be in the game? That is essentially what is being done here with Lightning and Omega! Or what if you had to pay for the fights you can do in the Olympus Coliseum in Kingdom Hearts I and II? That would be BS would it not? So if that is BS than why is it okay for XIII-2 to do it especially since all this DLC is already done and isn't included with the game. If you are still convinced that this is a "good" thing Square Enix is doing than I hope you enjoy paying for an incomplete game that you have to buy the DLC for to fully experiance the entire game...

fluffydelusions4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Gone are the days where you got a complete game day 1 and FF is no exception it seems. DLC is all the rage these days =\

Simon_Brezhnev4477d ago

So true and i will just wait to get the games until there 19.99-29.99 or GOTY edition.

MasterCornholio4477d ago

The worst case is ridge racer for the Vita which only has 2 tracks and 5 cars. Honestly are developers getting to the point where they believe that consumers are stupid enough to buy DLC in order to complete the experience? What happened to the good old days of hefty expansion packs? Now we have to deal with buying the game little by little with DLC.

I blame the people who buy DLC on a regular basis to motivate devs to do this to consumers.

Emmettcelticfan4477d ago

yeah my money not yours, don't waste your time writing a paragraph trying to argue why I shouldn't buy it. And they don't lose you as a buyer, the shop you buy it from does

tiffac0084477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

Well here's hoping SE releases a complete edition of this game down the line~

It's so disappointing that to this day, I have not seen a game match what BLACK offers in an FPS.

ApocalypseShadow202d ago

Shame isn't it. I thought we'd be at a point of destructible backgrounds, objects, pyrotechnics etc in shooters. I sold many a copy in the demo unit when I managed a franchise Game Crazy back then. But I stopped playing shooters because they didn't evolve. Heavy weapon. Shoot a wall or glass. Nothing happens. Lol. Except for Killzone 2. I enjoyed that.

But then I woke and remembered it's EA. EA didn't care really. They just wanted to kill competition from Criterion and Burnout. And own Renderware to profit from as many developers used that engine. Only thing was that developers ran as fast as they could away from EA to Unreal Engine and its pop in and Vaseline graphics. Shame on EA. And then they bought Dice for Frostbite. Evil busters.

Anyway, too many PS2 games to count. Some of my personal faves being DMC, Genji, Bujingai, Blood Will Tell, Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, Japanese Berserk, Japanese Macross game that blew away the US Robotech game, RAD, Castlevania Lament of Innocence.... there's just too many. Let me stop. Lol

Cacabunga202d ago

Code Veronica
Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore
The Getaway
Time Crisis 3
Killzone
Mark of Kri
SSX

are some of my all times favorites missing on that list

shinoff2183201d ago

I've always Saud I'm not a fan of fps much , there's been some I really like and thought were really dope. Black falls into that category.

CoNn3rB202d ago

I would love nothing more than a remaster of the Jak series, including Jak X

Flawlessmic202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

The greatest console of all time !!!!

The last console from when gaming was pure, games didn't take 5 years to release, no online only, no half finished games, no mtx.

Ps2 was just banger after banger after banger.

It will always be my favourite.

sagapo201d ago

No Timesplitters in the list??

FinalFantasyFanatic201d ago

This is a really good list, pretty happy with the choices here.

FFX and FFX-2 Do Not Need a Sequel

As a complete duology, Final Fantasy X and X-2 just do not need a sequel. These games provided us with satisfying conclusions to the characters' journeys and meaningfully wrapped up their arcs. And after the terrible way -Will- presented its narrative, feeling more like an attempt to capitalize on the previous game's success than a well-crafted and meaningful sequel, that's all the more reason to just let FFX be what it already is. Any further attempts to force a sequel will only diminish the legacy and impact of Final Fantasy X and X-2.

If they do another one, I'd really like to see more of a focus on the connection to FF VII. Since it was confirmed that they take place in the same world. Let's just keep the pop star element out of it for the next one... I really enjoyed X-2 as a game, but man that decision for Yuna and Rikku's character direction wasn't the right choice.

shinoff2183330d ago

The connection to 7 would be dope af. I can even begin to think how'd they do it. I mean storywise and stuff I know about the Shinra stuff and everything. I'd be down with a 10 3

-Foxtrot330d ago (Edited 330d ago )

Nope

https://www.finaland.com/?r...

It wasn't supposed to be taken seriously

"This story is a bit of a joke. When we created FFX-2, we wanted to create something, a totally new world. Except that when I created it, I realized that it looked a lot like FFVII ... But without realizing it. Afterwards, when it was officially said in Ultimania, it took a completely gigantic proportion when it was just an anecdote"

Thank God anyway

It's better when each FF is a different Universe

Snookies12330d ago (Edited 330d ago )

Except, it is canonically connected in the VII Remake. There's a Shinra character in X-2, who is actually shown in a picture on the wall in the Shinra HQ in Remake. Meaning at the very least, X and VII share the same world in the Remake version.

CrimsonWing69330d ago

@Snookies12

I thought they said that was just a joke:

―It’s a sequel to VII?!!
Kitase: “No, that was halfway a joke. However, in FFVII’s ending, Holy was supposed to settle things, then it’s suddenly ‘500 years later,’ and there’s been nothing like a sequel for it. There’s room to fill in that gap. There’s room for imagination. Since Nojima-san and Toriyama-san have worked together since then, talk that it could be possible with those staff members built up for a moment.”

―So, how did talk of it as a sequel to VII come up?
Nojima: “I felt that VII and X had a relatively connected feeling, that VII has an essence there.”

―Ehh, so VII and X are connected?
Nojima: “No, there isn’t much to it. For example, what happens when people die is fundamentally the same in my mind. I wrote both stories following the same idea. At times, other thoughts pop up, though. Pyreflies are green here and there, and other colors besides.”

https://thelifestream.net/c...

I think they were just having fun and making a gag out of it.

Name Last Name330d ago

@Snookies12 those are just easter eggs

-Foxtrot330d ago

@Snookies12

Easter eggs man nothing more

Like I said it's better for them to have their own Universe then being connected

I mean think about it...FFVII and FFX are completely different outside of those small little things, the worlds are like Night and Day

Nope but I sure would love a remake of ffx, my fav ff game along with 9.

JokerBoy129330d ago

Oh man, never thought I'd see someone with the same favorites as me lol. We're supposedly getting a remake of 9 at some point. I'm hoping we get something new from the FFX universe.

shinoff2183330d ago

I cannot wait for the remake of 9. It's got me pumped and it's not even official. Ff9 is damn near perfect imo

Abnor_Mal330d ago (Edited 330d ago )

I just saw a video about a rumor that Sony may have secured the rights for FF9 exclusivity for some possible remake.
