He makes a good point though. WWE games have a lot more going on. They have massive stadiums, the crowd isn't made from sprites anymore and are fully rendered now, depth of field, stages and physics objects.

It just has a lot more going on than UFC where you are only looking at a close up of two guys unlike WWE 12 where their could be 5 guys having a ladder match, or 6 guys having a cage match all while having the crowd being rendered.

Next gen for sure though.

I respectfully disagree, the game may have nice touches but it overall it feels very ps2 at its core, wanna see a next gen upgrade look at FIFA or GTA 4

slavish4491d ago (Edited 4491d ago )

I have to agree with you ape. Its like a upgrade ps2 game you can tell by the movement and mechanics. Just had a few updates. I DON'T expect much from this developer let alone thq to push them. If anyone thinks this is a top notch developer, that's pushing ps360 hardware, there a idiot.

ape0074491d ago (Edited 4491d ago )

I gave up the series long time ago, the best one was here comes the pain on the legendary ps2

Why wouldn't they make a huge upgrade like FIFA, look at EA, the gameplay, gfx and attention to detail is unparallelled and keep in mind that football is harder to develop imo than the wwe, the latest physics nine for impacts in fifa is awesome, I love the wwe an done day i hope for a great wrestling game that impressed me like no mercy and HCTP at their time, that's my rant....peace

Simon_Brezhnev4491d ago

My favorite one on ps2 was the one with goldberg, stonecold and brock in it. I just know it was pretty good back then.

Man In Black4491d ago

Yeah, Here Comes The Pain. The only other Smackdown game that matches up is 2006. The other games have generally been either alright or rather shitty. Features taken out, barely any significant improvements to core gameplay, etc.

FFXI1014491d ago

My favorites are the Arcade one and the ones that were on N64. It used to be simple and fun to play, now I just don't like them, I won't even rent it.

Simon_Brezhnev4491d ago

Yeah my other favorite is WCW Revenge.

rocky0475864491d ago

You honestly don't know what's harder to develop for or not actually. Fifa doesn't have to have very good graphics because 90% of the time you're looking so far off from the players they don't have to put much detail into the bodies and faces. Not to say that it's not a good looking game, it is, but it can't compare to the production of WWE because it's not the same and you can't expect it to be the same.

PS2 underlaying graphics and gameplay is what you're saying? I'd love to see the PS2 produce the great graphics of WWE'12, there's a reason it's not on PS2 anymore. Same with the gameplay as well, it does have the same feel but, then again, Fifa 2012 feels just like Fifa 2000 in a great sense too no matter what physics they added in recently or not. It has the same feel because it's based off of the same coding, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't been significantly upgraded since then, it has. The older games don't come close to being as fluid and as responsive as WWE'12 is, not even close.

Pintheshadows4491d ago (Edited 4491d ago )

Dude, FIFA had its code entirely rebuilt for the PS3 and Xbox. In fact I believe they did so again for 11. If you think 2000 and 12 are similar you're either insane or haven't played them.

As for WWE the games this gen have all looked poor. They haven't advanced in a gameplay sense and i'm pretty sure most of the animations are ripped directly from the PS2 era. The fact is Yukes aren't a very good developer. And HCTP is easily as fluid as WWE 12. And before you ask, I played it yesterday.

God, I just feel sorry for WWE next to say Fight Night Champion. Hell WWE 12 doesn't even look as good as Round 3. I know they're different sports, but still Round 3 is about 5 years old.

rocky0475864491d ago (Edited 4491d ago )

How wrong can you be Pintheshadows? WWE'12 is an ENTIRELY different code from the PS2 games and the animations are nowhere NEAR as advanced on the PS2 as they are in WWE'12. They did a completely new animation and physics system for WWE'12 that wasn't even present in the past games, first off. Second, FIFA 2000 DOES look similar to FIFA 2012 dude, there's no if, and's, or but's about that.

Have you seen the picture in my profile of CM Punk? That's from the game, if you think that looks poor then you don't know what "good graphics" are at all. I took the liberty of putingt a few pictures and a video up for you to show you the difference by the way.

HCTP is NOT as fluid at all! You have GOT to be kidding me. Sounds like you haven't even played WWE'12 and you're basing your conclusion on things that you may have sen from Youtube. You are comparing a game that has AT THE MAX, 2 People on screen at once at an up close angle at all times vs a game that has up to 6 playable stars, a FULLY RENDERED 3D crowd, and 3 other fully rendered 3D on-screen NPC's, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, and the Referee. There's no way you should be comparing the two, you can compare UFC and Fight Night though, much better comparison.

Don't feel sorry for the WWE games. The graphics are great and you have proven that you haven't even seen the game let alone played it before. you're just saying things just because you can. The game looks JUST AS DETAILED as Fight Night, the difference is that you're not looking at the two wrestlers up close at all times like you are in Fight Night or in UFC games. Just check out the links dude, you're so wrong about everything you've said here.

Are Wrestling Games Getting Worse?

Some of you may know that the latest instalment in the WWE gaming franchise 2K20 was released late last year to generally poor reviews. Some of this was based on graphical issues, but mostly it was due to the many glitches and bugs found – many of which are hilarious to witness.

Fire Pro needs more love. The last PS4 title gets regular playtime from me.

I hear that there are financial troubles at the studio, but I'm hopeful for a Switch port one of these days.

The Wood1576d ago

Anyone remember Giant Gram Wrestling on the Dreamcast .....

Rambokind1576d ago

Ah hell yes! That was loads of fun.

Acecalibur1577d ago

Fire Pro just gets better. Buy it.

micdagoat191577d ago

I have Fire Pro for PS4 and PC but it seems more of like a Sim creator rather than people actually playing out matches. I still dont like anything as much as the N64 games

b163o11576d ago (Edited 1576d ago )

Golden Era of wrestling games in the Golden Era of wrestling. I've been contemplating going back and getting a N64 and getting those classic's
WWF Wrestlemania 2000
WWF No Mercy
WCW vs. nWo Revenge

micdagoat191573d ago

Yeah its the only wrestling games I still play consistently for fun.

TheTony3161577d ago

Yes. The last great wrestling game was svr 2006.

addictedtochaos1577d ago

Yes, the WWE ones at least. The last good one was 2K14 and the last great one was Here Comes the Pain.

Thq and AKI stopped making the games. The N64 games were the best

fad6323027d ago

couldn't agree more, think it was No Mercy which i liked the best, although I remember the WCW NWO game being very good also.

In its current carnation it will never top the N64 games

3-4-53027d ago

WWE 12 was the last good wrestling game.

WeAreLegion3027d ago

I'll tell you where they went right. WWE All-Stars freakin' rules.

Ruggadagod3027d ago

You can obviously tell they got lazy.

showtimefolks3027d ago (Edited 3027d ago )

IMO the story aspects became the worst. the universe mode isn't as good as the GM mode(imo)

commentary is really bad
enemy ai isn't good neither is hit detection

instead of putting effort into single player story all we have gotten are past glory moments. i mean we are basically watching replays of old matches

i am surprised we didn't get a true wwe vs wcw game

the one wwe game few years ago with wcw story line was good(i had fun with story mode atleast)

here comes the pain
shut your mouth
day of reckoning
no mercy

are some of the best wwe wrestling games

vanity293027d ago

all these years and no real ragdoll physics to make selling moves look different either. 2k15 and 16 have like halfassed ragdoll.

nevin13027d ago

It's funny how you mentioned modern games problem being story related.

But then mentioned

here comes the pain
shut your mouth
day of reckoning
no mercy

HCTP, SYM and No Mercy was cherished by its gameplay.

Its seems alot of people these days are more interested in stories in videogames then the actual game. Gameplay should be number 1.

roxette923027d ago

wwe 2k14 was the last great release gameplay wise. wwe 2k16 still has the annoying chain grappling.

showtimefolks3026d ago

nevin1

they could have a bad story but still a original story. these past wwe games have moments from past like 30 years of wrestlemania and attitude era

i rather just get original stories and that's just my personal opinion
