1UP - Why There May Be No Hope Left for Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City

1UP - Capcom made their official announcement yesterday that Resident Evil 6, the next sequel in their flagship survival horror series, is in development and will release on November 20, 2012. But while the promise of a new chapter in the RE saga is exciting (and the debut trailer amazing), there may be an unintended casualty from this news: Capcom's upcoming console game Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City -- made by Canadian developer Slant Six Games -- could be a victim of the Osborne Effect.

sorry but this franchise died for me the moment they went with co-op. it should be called Resident Shooter now, the Evil was removed in the last game.

So if a company makes a bad game we should just give up all hope for the franchise right?

I mean, by your logic DMC3 shouldn't exist because DMC2 was bad.

one game doesn't kill a franchise and if the co-op is optional and doesn't make an attempt to overshadow the single player campaign/s...it's not a big deal.

Maybe they should make it a downloadable game off of PSN and XBL.

That seems like a better home for it rather than a $60 game.

The problem with that is that PSN and XBL games don't get advertised as much as full releases. Xbox does a much better job with this than Sony does, and that's because their dashboard is full of ads, while you have to go to PSN to see anything from Sony (the ticker is always overlooked).

They need to advertise games better on PSN and XBL, because there are some great games out there for those two services that have been extremely overlooked.

If there's one thing I want next gen it's better PSN and XBL management and material (Full games and micro versions of Full games like Red Dead Nightmare and inFamous Festival of Blood).

You don't always want to drop $60 on a new game, but if there are micro versions of the same game for $10 - $30 then people would be more willing to buy it and take a chance on the full retail version.

So I guess I want cheaper games for PSN and XBL, as well as micro version of the games.

Resident Evil was a crappy placeholder that some fans thought only applied to the first game anyway. The original title is "Biohazard", which from the trailer it seem is staying true to it's name.

Hufandpuf4496d ago

They must have changed it because I would never put any faith in a game called biohazard.

D3mons0ul4496d ago (Edited 4496d ago )

I always thought Biohazard was a cool name for the series. I wish it was called that over here instead of Resident Evil, which is a nonsensical title.

@below

Resident Evil deserves the title more than that shitty band, I'm sorry.

Coolmanrico4496d ago (Edited 4496d ago )

Well you should be lucky a US Band already had the name and Capcom had to change it. The game has always and is still called Biohazard in Japan

Slant Six?that's the studio who made those terrible Socom Psp/PS3 games.why would Capcom trust them with Resident Evil in the first place.

Captain Qwark 94496d ago (Edited 4496d ago )

1. biohazard is a cooler name and makes more sense, its too bad they couldnt use the name here

2. i know a lot of people where this effect actually happens to them. personally though, i like resident evil games, ill be getting both. i enjoy the concepts behind both and they should feel pretty different too id imagine

3. in my opinion, they would have been better off waiting though. in fact they could have just packaged the trailer at the end of orc so people who beat it were like, AWESOME!!!! would have made a nice little surprise

I already pre-ordered Raccoon City. The game seems way more action focused than RE6 so those of you prefer horror might want to stick to RE6.

Behind AC: New Horizons, this is my 2nd most wanted game this year.
Until Capcom remade RE2, RE3: Nemesis on PS1 was my favourite RE game.

Tross1530d ago (Edited 1530d ago )

I do think it's easily one of the most underrated RE games. I'm looking forward to fending off REmake Nemesis, especially since I heard his appearances throughout the game will now be somewhat randomized.

Umbrella chronicles is still my favourite it was really cool going back and playing the classics with updated graphics.

Nerdmaster1530d ago

I would say I thought Darkside Chronicles was better mainly because 2, Code Veronica and 4 (kind of represented in the game by Leon and Krauser) are my favorite games. But the super shaky camera in Darkside really bothered me...

Late in the Game Review: 'Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City'

The Gamer's Ghost returns in this Late in the Game Review series to revisit Raccoon City. Did Slant Six Games' premier Resident Evil title hold up to the series' standards? Or was it rotten, like the very zombies spawned from Umbrella's dastardly research?

I actually thought this was a fun game. Was it great? No. But there were some very cool moments in the game.

Stand outs were taking on the Nemesis with a group and the Tyrant on the elevator.

AK911561d ago

One if the worst games I ever had the dishonor of playing I'm glad Capcom has rebounded to making quality games now even outside the RE series.
