Yeah, it's going to be a tough time for new releases. I've still yet to scratch the surface in Skyrim or Saints Row 3 yet, so sadly these titles won't see the light of my gaming day for some time yet.

Not great for the publishers, although great for me, prices drop all too fast on new releases.

CarlitoBrigante4484d ago

"With the original and fondly remembered Twisted Metal on the Playstation selling over 2 million,"

Stopped reading on the first sentence, this one sentence shows us whats wrong with gaming industry today. So called gamers only care if certain games sell gazillion number of copies. Where's the time when we looked at quality instead judging a game by its sales?

You guys did this with Resistance 3, imo the best shooter of 2011.

DeadIIIRed4484d ago

The author was using the figure to highlight the fact that the popularity of Twisted Metal has been dwindling, not as a claim of quality.

Blaine4483d ago

@Carlito

Not to mention this is an XBOX SITE, just putting TM in there to troll for hits. GTFO msxbox-world.

byrnezy4483d ago

Can't agree enough on Resistance 3, such a brilliant game. Sad to see Insomniac leave sony and go multi

SwampCroc4483d ago

I agree with you...

also Twisted Metal back on Playstation sold well. that was then... and I'm positive there are alot more PS owners now.

so I really think Twisted Metal is going to fine.

it's the king of car combat.

MaxXAttaxX4483d ago

Lack of own 360 games to talk about? Maybe.
Trolling PS3 games because of it? Likely.

joab7774483d ago

While I may agree with you, games cost a ton of money to make today, especially if they r to meet r standards. Its one reason so many live arcade, Indie games, and ios games r being made. I fear that there's only gonna b room for maybe 20-30 major ips at any given time; the rest will fail. It is simply astonishing that there are such good games out today, and so many that it simply isn't possible for all to succeed. New ips must find a niche audience or b superb titles to survive. I hope twisted metal does well. The syndicate may do well also because it is a shooter right now. I think the new IP that may fare the best this month is kingdoms of amalur. It comes at a time when rpgs are at a high, sandwhjched between skyrim and ME3.

joab7774483d ago

And something I don't understand is why games don't take advantage of down time. Last summer I went back and played lost Odyssey while waiting for the fall to release 10 games. I did it last January too. It may have been the way of old, but new ips or sequels of older games or obscure games must pick the right fights to stand a chance. I guess February isn't bad, i guess we will c which one comes out on top. Though i fear it may b the month to finish up fall releases.

sikbeta4483d ago

The more a games sell, the more money a dev can earn and chances to get sequels are higher than with a game that sell like crap, so yeah, as a gamer, you should not care about sales, but when you do know what I stated about sales, you kind of want a game to succeed, right? that's why we go with sales ans s***, I want TM to succeed, but I don't think it'll sell much, sadly

trouble_bubble4483d ago

@DeadIIIRed
Bad example though by Msxbox. Not enough of a difference between the 1st game doing 2 million and every other sequel doing over a million to prove a decline. If anything, it proves the series had a -stable- 1 million repeat customers that came back every time once the novelty wore off. That's actually a positive.

Now, were Msxboxworld to apply that same logic to Halo or Final Fantasy where recent incarnations have fallen WELL short of the series' peak numbers by like 6 million a pop, heads would be blown. But those games aren't PS exclusives so the standards are apparently different.

FACTUAL evidence4483d ago

Twisted metal is going to struggle for 1 million sells...I agree it's going to sell like crap. I can't wait til someone trades the game in so I can buy it. It would of been day one if it had more characters. I loved the single character bio's and endings....that's what made TM IMO. Not going to be surprised if this game does sell like crap, or maybe even receive 7 and 8 reviews.

Not saying 7 or 8's are bad, but it's most likely going to be the forgettable TM title on ps3.

Godchild10204483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

How can it be forgettable? It's the first TM to grace the PS3, it will either be remembered for being the first TM to grace the PS3 and fail or be the first TM to grace the PS3 and do well.

I laugh at people like you that come into shops and ask if they have a used game of a recently released game, because you can't afford to spend the extra 5 dollars. If you are going to do that, why not just rent your games altogether and then buy the games you do like. That way that same 55 can get you 4 games at a time and not just one for the 1-7 day period.

EDIT: This is not just for TM, but for a lot of games that have the potential to do great and not like games that are consider being like Mindjack or other games.

The only thing to hold TM and other games from selling well that day is the fact that day is Valentine's day and any man that has a woman, will not be able to pick that game up unless he is in a mall that has a Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Best buy or any other store that sells games close by.

TheLastGuardian4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

"I can't wait til someone trades the game in so I can buy it. It would of been day one if it had more characters."

That's such a stupid reason not to buy this game new. What is so bad about having only 3 playable characters? It's all about the vehichles really. Are you really complaining that there is only 3 story modes in Twisted Metal? It's still going to be the best single player of any TM game. You think you know better than Eat Sleep Play what's best for Twisted Metal? You don't deserve to play Twisted Metal.

TBM4483d ago

Twisted Metal and FF 13-2 will do just fine. i know i plan on purchasing both games when they release.

pedo_across-the-road4484d ago

I never thought I would see the day where an xbox magazine tries to help a playstation exclusive.

LOGICWINS4484d ago

Twisted Metal will need all the help it can get on Feb 14th.

-The car combat genre is a niche genre
-No television commercials as of yet
-ME3 demo coming out the same day
-UFC Undisputed 3 coming out the same day
-People still busy with Skyrim
-People buying games from last year at a discounted price(AC: Revelations, Arkham City etc.)

The game looks great if your a TM fan...but anyone who expects it to be a Day 1 sales monster is kidding themselves.

Silly gameAr4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

I don't think anyone expects TM to be a sales monster, including the creators. Sorry, I take that back. MSxbox World might, but then again, I really don't take this site very seriously. I think it's one of the biggest hit mongering sites on N4G.

By the way, good on you to approve your own article shadowmask. Nailed it.

Baka-akaB4484d ago

Dont forget how europe as a whole usually doesnt care about twisted metal .

Anyway in my case it's dead . I await way more important games betweeen jan 31 to march , alongside the release of the vita

SilentNegotiator4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

MS-Xbox-World is just happy to claim that Twisted Metal is d00med!, the same way "LOGIC" is happy to call car combat "niche" (because we've seen so many big time, AAA car combat games lately by which to judge that claim /s).

"-ME3 demo coming out the same day
-UFC Undisputed 3 coming out the same day
-People still busy with Skyrim"

.....a demo, a wrestling game, and a game that's months old will stop people from buying Twisted Metal? LOL, get outta here, troll.

MariaHelFutura4484d ago

It won't sell boatloads day 1, but it won't be because of the ME3 demo. D!psh!t.

n4gisatroll4484d ago

Really....do people still play those ufc games? And you think enough people will buy ufc over twisted metal? Because I don't.

LOGICWINS4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

Uh oh, I made some people angry.

"And you think enough people will buy ufc over twisted metal?"

Umm..yeah

honkyjesus4484d ago

Include these weird Jaffe fanboys that have been waiting for him to work on something since 2005 that is worth noting.

I remember a forum with Ken Levine and Todd Howard on Gametrailers, and Jaffe appears drunk and babbles while the other guys pretend to take him seriously. At one point he said a story in a game is not important... prolly cause he is making a Twisted Metal reboot instead of a game.

Abash4484d ago

That was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, and it's poor "logic" from someone who has an ironic screen name like yourself.

You might as well have put " - Taco Bell's beefy crunch burrito is 99 cents" because you were desperately trying to think of anything you could.

LOGICWINS4484d ago

Your absolutely right. I'm "desperate" to make a videogame look bad because it benefits me. Bravo.

SilentNegotiator4483d ago

@Honky

Jaffe was creative director for Mickey Mania, the game that influenced the 2D sidescroller sections of Epic Mickey. He was a designer for the Twisted Metal series (inspiration for future games like Vigilante 8, Carmageddon, etc). Not to mention....he directed the spectacular and influential God of War.

Yeah, Calling all cars was a flop, but that doesn't change the fact that Jaffe is an absolute legend; he's influenced more games and taken part in more grade A projects than a chicken.

But I'm sure you're just bitter about something he said in a blog/twitter post.

thedude444483d ago

i think twisted metal is going to do well, the game is one of the best out there and its playstations oldest franchise so its well known.

Bioshocking4483d ago

I doubt anyone with a Ps3 is still playing Skyrim with that god forsaken lag...

ME3 demo comes out only for 360 that day

Hell sales don't make a great game, look at COD and now Skyrim on PS3.

And Eat Sleep play does not care how many copies they sell. They are just proud that this is the best twisted metal they have ever made... calling it a niche genre makes you look like an idiot, because there is so much depth for this games multiplayer it is ridiculous

I pre ordered and payed this off... because I know it is a great game

morganfell4483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

Twisted Metal is one of those games that doesn't sell a lot day one...or even day two. But it keeps selling steadily over time.

Don't forget to click the link under Read full story>> that says msxbox-world.com. It doesn't take you to their site. Instead it lets you vote on the site.

Tell N4G what you think of these types of stories and that site in general. Keep voting and soon you won't have to deal with these sorts of attempts at journalism.

N4G placed this voting mechanism here for a reason. We should use it to its fullest potential.

Jamzluminati4483d ago

LOL Mass effect
LOL Demo
Lol Demo
Skyrim? People still playing that?

P_Bomb4483d ago

@Logic
"The car combat genre is a niche genre"

Part of the appeal. Something *new*. I don't just like the games Kevin Butler or Larry Hyb tell me to. Like Yakuza, which I'll be getting hand-in-hand with ME3 come March. My February however remains wide open.

As to the games you listed as potential February diversions, I've never cared for the Elder Scrolls, coupled with no real interest in anything dungeons'n'dragons themed. As such, buggy Skyrim is still a pass for me.

As is AC Revelations. Burnt out on yearly AssCreeds and Revelations is the poorest rated to date. Coulda had it new for $24.99 but passed.

Beat Arkham City in October.

A demo means nothing when I'm buying the full game regardless. I don't play demos for months at a time at the expense of games. Mass Effect 3 is March, which still leaves February open.

UFC Undisputed isn't on my radar or anyone on my friends' list. Haven't seen an MMA or WWE/TNA game steal anyone's thunder in forever.

So again, my February is wide open. TM has the best shot of winding up in my machine though just based on the fact there's literally nothing in my collection like it.

kaveti66164483d ago

" the same way "LOGIC" is happy to call car combat "niche" (because we've seen so many big time, AAA car combat games lately by which to judge that claim /s)."

Well, yeah. That's what makes the genre niche, dude. Are you seriously being sarcastic about that? When something is rare, it's niche.

Kurt Russell4483d ago

He didn't say your precious game is bad, he said it is niche... judgeing by the sheer lack of car combat games I would say that is a fair statement.

All these people calling out the magazine for trolling the PS3 are being foolish... at no point has it said that these games are going to be bad - it just makes the point that these games are unlikely to sell well, which as unfortunate as it may be is likely to be the case.

People are very quick to call people out for trolling or as "dipshits" when they're clearly the blind and misguided.

When you really think of the month, what's currently about and what will be selling on the cheap around that time... is it really going to sell loads?... wait wait, stop, think... is it really? :/

Nobody is saying these games are bad, just being realistic.

TBM4483d ago

Im playing skyrim now but im not going to let one game control my gaming. so when both TM and FF release they will be had and played to the fullest.

trouble_bubble4483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

People over-analyse release dates. Who cares what 6 people are still playing from last Nov? Time marches on.

There will always be sales to compete with. Games need to be released sooner or later though. There will ALWAYS be something for someone to "buh buh buh" about. Someone mentioned a demo. Yes a demo, that's not even on the PS3 LMAO! See?

Buy it in Mar if Febs no good, or Apr then. Point is the game will be out. Lifetime sales > day one, week one. This ain't the movies where you need to see a flick before the theater replaces it with another after a few weeks. Be sensible here.

sikbeta4483d ago (Edited 4483d ago )

Disagree all you want, but some of Logic points are right

Car combat games are not hot anymore, this is a genre mostly of shooters, that's what people play the most, car combat genre is not as big as it was in the PS1 days and it's not going to change in the near future

Sony pushing 1 ad a week before launch is not enough and it'll never be enough, there's nothing about this game, not even internet hype

UFC coming the same day, same mistake as usual coming from SCE, 2010 released GOWIII same week as FFXIII, 2011 released U3 in November with beasts like COD + Skyrim and week after BF3, they're screwing themselves

About people busy with Skyrim, well you can also say that people still busy with COD, so kind of there is no scape, but I get the point

TM will not be a huge seller, everyone knows that, hope it does good enough though...

They really think Final Fantasy XIII-2 is gonna get low sales? ...

Gee, support The Last Story instead!

Kurisu4484d ago

Well FFXIII-2 is on its 5th week out in Japan, and its still hasn't sold through its initial shipment numbers (850,000 I think). Usually it would be over the million mark by at least week 2. Judging by the Japanese launch, FFXIII-2 might struggle to sell as much as Square Enix had hoped. Personally I cant wait to pick up my copy!

Baka-akaB4484d ago

Still there is a difference between a huge franchise selling less as expected and games being full on flops . FFXIII-2's potential flop would be riches for any of the more obscure releases of february

Venjense4484d ago

I played the FF XIII-2 demo yesterday then played Skyrim - FF did not evolve enough to compete with other RPGs this gen.

Skyrim makes FFs gameplay, environments, and generally everything except graphics look a gen behind.

Baka-akaB4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

Weird claim imo .They never had any common ground to begin with , and if you were a fan of one type and not the other , things didnt suddenly change

It's the Fifth official Elder scrolls game already , with even more refinement and/or simplified ... not as if it's some new concept that stole any thunder , let alone leaving some other concepts behind .

PR_FROM_OHIO4484d ago

Looks at website?? LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!! Twisted Metal will b sick can't wait til Feb,14!!

NBT914484d ago

I dunno. It looks like a lot of fun but if what I reading the article is true, I cant see myself buying it -
Not that I don't like multiplayer but I don't want to be practically forced to play it online ( screaming kids, racists, music played purposely down mics etc)
"David Jaffe has advised gamers to rent before buying as the focus is strictly multiplayer. If we recall correctly, the originals had sufficient AI to cater to lone players, so this focus on online play might be restrictive"

LettingGo4484d ago

Don't worry. Single player is perfect! Also, playing split screen with friends is fantastic, as well. It's a buy.

Biggest4484d ago

"If we recall correctly, the originals had sufficient AI to cater to lone players,"

So did every other game of the time. There was no online. Making a game with multiplayer as the focus back then would have made zero sense.

Blaine4483d ago

Actually, Jaffe said in the same article that the single player longer and deeper than any TMs before. What he really said was that, despite that, in terms of single player, TM won't compete with the likes of Skyrim for length, so if that's your main focus then rent it.

But this shit site twisted his words to justify a reason to put a stellar PS3 game on their POS list to get hits.

snipes1014484d ago

One thing a lot of people on here waving the banner for TM are failing to realize that these people were already fans. Times have changed since 1996 and vehicular combat games aren't the big seller that they used to be. Like it or not that is just the way it is so yes, it makes sense that TM would be in this article.

antz11044484d ago

Actually a lot of gamers still remember TM Black, from 2000, and remember that it was well received as the best title in the series. If its anything like that than it could sell really well. Especially if people are looking for something beyond the current fps hype.

snipes1014483d ago

The problem is though that gamers are not a demographic in and of themselves like they used to be. Video game sales now account for millions more people than the ones that play games religiously.

What I'm trying to say is, though gamers might remember TM, a lot of the casual crowd won't and they make up a majority right now unfortunately.

Wow. I like the idea of VR twisted metal with a wheel.

Rebel_Scum281d ago

They need to get the enemy AI balance right. Thats what made 2 the best in the series. Black was abysmal in that dept.

neomahi281d ago

You don't. Do sequels. If you've gotta reboot, might as well do a new IP. God of War is the only game I can say that did a successful reboot

TiredGamer281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Isn’t the new GoW just a sequel technically?

I personally think they can leverage the roots of the series. The original TM in 1995 took place on Christmas Eve 2005, and it was the 10th contest in history. Why not “reboot” the franchise by making a prequel of sorts showing the origin story of the series and maybe linking all the future games in a brilliant way. Seems like such an obvious idea to leverage old with the new (kind of look how Doom 2016 did with its lore).
