How Can Anyone Be Disappointed By Both Skyrim and Skyward Sword?

Kotaku - Some folks loved the latest Legend of Zelda game but weren't fond of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Others turned up their noses at Skyward Sword but embraced Bethesda's latest wholeheartedly. Somehow commenter Sloopydrew found himself disappointed with both games. In today's Speak Up on Kotaku we try to determine what sort of alien he is.

Because they dont like fantasy games.

Canary4499d ago

Or they're tired of the cliches and archetypes both games embrace wholeheartedly.

Or they had unrealistically high expectations.

Or they have an instinctive dislike for anything that's popular.

Really, there are quite a few possibilities.

ShinMaster4499d ago

Nothing against either game, but the statements mentioned above are quite true.

Saladfax4498d ago (Edited 4498d ago )

Maybe for people who have played 10 or more Zelda games and are getting tired of the same old shit.

Of course, referring to discerning people, not those unable to remove their rose-tinted nostalgia glasses.

As for Skyrim, well... maybe people want their atmosphere more consistent without little pokes to remind them of what they're doing. Glitches, buckets over heads for stealing, arrows to the knee from every guard and peasant don't really improve immersion.

StraightPath4499d ago (Edited 4499d ago )

because they are idiots. Zelda and Skyrim GOTY. Zelda Skyward Sword pretty much eclipsed everything that sony and ms had to offer in the exclusive department...what a coincidence nintendo does it again.

ShinMaster4499d ago

Didn't get anywhere near the same amount and strength of media coverage and attention as some of the biggest current gen(PS3,360) games. That's hardly eclipsing.
Quality-wise? For a Wii game yeah.

gillri4499d ago

indeed, played them both, loved them both,

shame about the all the quest bugs in Skyrim though, and the slow start in Zelda

If it wasnt for the Skyrim bugs that wold have been my GOTY. As it is Portal 2 and Skyward Sword were mine in the end

dedicatedtogamers4499d ago

I was disappointed in both. Dark Souls surpassed both. Sue me.

FEARprototype4499d ago

i like the 3 of them in their own way.
why do people like to be hated?

FinaLXiii4499d ago

i was disapointed with dark souls lol

BraveToaster4499d ago

I wasn't disappointed by Skyrim because I expected it to be Oblivion 1.2. I was right.

DeleteThisxx4499d ago

You clearly never played Oblivion OR Skyrim.

Megaman_nerd4499d ago

Sadly I have played both and I think the same. =/

RedDead4499d ago

YOU clearly never played Oblivion OR Skyrim.

DeleteThisxx4499d ago

Funny, I have achieved 100% in both Oblivion and Skyrim. Yet I'm the one who hasn't played either of them. Please, elaborate on Oblivion 1.2. The perk/leveling system is entirely different, a completely revamped magic system, NPC's feel alive in their surroundings, new story, enhanced gameplay, randomly generated quests, dragons, shouts, an all around brand new experience.

Sure, the basic formula is still the same but there's no way you can say with a straight face that this is "oblivion 1.2" Unless you're a blatant troll who didn't progress passed the first quest.

NukaCola4499d ago

I think Skyrim is not much like Oblivion. Oblivion was very recycled and repetative. It was good, but not as good as Skyrim which took a more modern Bethesda approach as they use a lot of tools they learned from Fallout.

Play Oblivion again, maybe then you will seen the difference, when I played Skyrim I also thought that it was about the same as Oblivion till I played Oblivion again. Then you see the leap.

BraveToaster4499d ago

You're right, I exaggerated a bit. It's more like Oblivion 2.0. What Oblivion was supposed to be.

Captain Qwark 94499d ago

they played dark souls first......

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast30d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22930d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko30d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave30d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan30d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
