More Than Just A Ghost Story: Creating Horror In 'Shadow Of A Soul'

IGM writes: "When we discovered the thrilling trailer for Vivec Entertainment’s debut game, Shadow of a Soul, we were instantly drawn back into that familiar state of fright that Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent conjured up.

Naturally we were eager to find out more on this promising first person survival horror and took no hesitation in bombarding the developer with questions. Our intention was to find out whether this was a game worth building our hopes up for; we couldn’t stand yet another disappointing title in this favorite genre of ours."

hey, good horror games are hard to come by these days. i'd rather devs ape games like Amnesia rather than CoD/GoW...

how much will it cost? and will there be a chance to play games on mid-end laptop (Geforce 630M)? I mean will requirements increase as to play with Oculus Rift? I'm excited :)

Yes it will need a good system to run highly detailed/modern games at 60fps min (less than that breaks immersion).

Dev kit only for now costs $300 - cheap compared to how much really crappy HMDs used to go for. Consumer version won't be out till much later, maybe next year?

Developer version is 'only' 1280 x 800 (split down the middle), consumer version is likely to be 1920x1080/1200 depending on the screens at the time. If you don't want to develop games then better to wait for the improved consumer version.

And you can't just use it with any game, the game has to be specifically modified or built for it (it's not like 3D glasses). The best stuff on the rift will be built from the ground up for it, taking into account realistic speed, scale, immersion etc. It will change 'games' for the better in that respect.

On a mid range PC I'm sure you can still run some stuff at >60fps but would be a lot simpler graphically, but still cool because it's proper VR! :)
