Broken controllers, bruised knuckles and a blue face. These are the symptoms of frustration, a common illness found in gaming. We’ve all been afflicted even if we wouldn’t admit to it. There have been plenty of games that have gotten me hot under the collar resulting in an expletive filled rant swiftly followed by a rage induced quit.
With difficulty in gaming being diluted, you’d think it would be tough to find any titles that make us feel like this, but there are. From Call of Duty to Dark Souls, our staff share their stories about how they became another casualty in the land of gaming and, just maybe, how they overcame their demons. As we gather around the campfire Dave tells us the tale of his charity challenge of playing Dark Souls for 24 hours and surviving with most of his hair.
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.
2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.
"Dark Souls: Archthrones is like playing a brand new FromSoftware game, and that speaks volumes about just how much good modding can do," says Hanzala from eXputer.
Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way. Why?
i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)
I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
