Resident Evil: Code Veronica is a classic. Its been debated over and over by the community, with some hailing it as a masterpiece, while others consider it a flop. But at the end of the say, this game is a must play. It might take some getting used to, and it isn't going to blow your mind graphically, but the smart storyline and horror laced gameplay are going to keep you entertained at the least.
As far as the "update" as Microsoft and Sony both called it, don't focus on that. This isn't really an update, its more like a re-release. They are giving you the chance to play a Dreamcast specific title on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. That is how you should approach it. Anyone who has played this game and is hoping for a greatly updated version they can run through again, this might not be a good purchase for you. But if you really want to play it again, or are someone who has never had a chance to play it, look it up.

Damn, I just bought code name Veronica. Lol. I was eyeballing the Castlevania game due to the recent Tokyo Gameshow Sale, but I guess I’ll just get it here instead.
